Guys shall I close this thread and make 'OMG ASOT 250 this Thursday Part 2'? Its difficult to read when threads cross 14 page mark. And the show has not yet even started.

no. being a motivated hunter of music leads to a deeper knowledge of music and that translates into a broder understanding of music...AND THAT leads to the ability to tell the difference between what is good music and what isnt. of course no one here is the law on whats good and whats not but there is a standard.

I agree with that much, but different hunters of music will still judge what is good based on the way they interperet the sound, and those interperetations are cultural no matter how you slice it. It is feasible that there is a culture out there somewhere that interperets armins tunes as good even after being a motivated music hunter.

The standard for what is good varies from one culture to the next.

You're missing the entire point in that everyone has their OWN standard of what is good and what is bad regardless of how much "hunting" they do. Pushing one's standard on another is when all the conflict/flaming happens.

i think it isn't even that much about culture but about what each individual likes in music, or is looking for in music.

true, but culture is the best way I can think of to word it. If I said something like "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" people would say bull shit and post pics of fat chicks. There is a stereotype for beauty but it is hardly universally accepted, just ask sir mix alot.

I don't really want to get in on this argument but I will say this..

Music is subjective! There's nothing really objective about it other than maybe "music theory". When I talk about subjectivity, it deals with the listener's experience listening to it. I dunno why people objectify it to be like "this is good, and this is bad". Yes some music may be better quality then others, I admit that, however what is good to you, might be bad to others, what might be bad to you, might be good to others, it's as simple as that...subjectivity is the key here. Music, just like any art, is highly subjective, it's based around the listerners experience and tastes, whether you like it or not. If someone likes ASOT and Armin, fine, stop hi-jacking these threads that were meant to be for people who like ASOT and Armin, not for people who don't. People are going to stop posting stuff like this in the future I think if this is the attitude people have on here...one of the reasons i'm afraid to post anything because I know it's just going to turn into a flame war. There needs to be more respect!

Yes you can have an opinion, but don't make this thread now what...18 pages of a bunch of people bickering at each other. It's childish. I'm not a big ASOT fan, I have only listened to a few shows in 2004 and 2005, and I do like some of the music Armin plays and did play and yeah I kind of wish he was more like what he was around 2002 and 2003, but you don't see me going around saying "armin sucks, your music sucks". You can not like his music and still respect the right of others to like it, and not sit here critizing it all the time, especially on a thread that was suppoed to be for people who like it. This thread isn't one of those "What happened to Armin?" or "trance is dead" threads...it's about ASOT and Armin, for those who like him. You people need to grow up!!

the thing is there is a fine line between whats good and what you like. I bearly listen to ANY classical music but I respect it because it takes effort to make and I cant understand how someone would like it. its good music.

now for someone to try and convince me that NSYNC is good would be laughable. yet going by your theory that would be someones standard. fine. more power to them but if someone is going to defend a group like that then I cant take their opinion seriously. I would say that person was either in-experienced when it comes to music or just doesent have good taste.

you're thinking good music = music with complex chord progressions. some people might think good music = fun music, for example. NSync can be considered good if good music = music that can sell a lot.

that's why music is so damn subjective.
