its prolly a once in a life time oppurtunity to see the originator of hiphop and breaks live so he'd better show...

really looking forward to this since i heard about it at that event where i think some bassbin guy was playing

this is what breaks are all about. awesome mashup of all b genres. im not a fan of dnb but it sounds perfect here. hip hop part of it is just too fucking awesome. i never did pay any attention to gold digger till i heard it at elmo and since then i think its the greatest beat since "let me clear my throat" and "gin 'n juice".

any pendulum heavy set is a winner. are they always spinning rockstar shit? i will have to check them out as soon as possible even tho im not a big fan of dnb (like i said it before).

"where i come from we dont play around, and when its time to party we know how to get it down". push up will be remembered as one of the greatest song of all times. breaks parts of the set are just what doctor prescribed. healthy dose of funk infused with nu shit. mmmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmm, exactly what Dr. Badtouch prescribed, slut music for b-sluts.

all in all 17 thumbs up for this set. cant wait for freestylers to come here again cause every single time its been..... hard to describe in words, ill have to find some pics from last time.

freestylers up in the orange room, 2006. at one point people from kh and guv were running to orange room to see what the fuck is going on. it got super rammed and we had some of them nice girls from the drink bustin a move with us and shakin' their badonkadonks and other awesome body parts.

freestylers, its been a while, hurry the fuck up!

Posted by Cosmic Fur on Sep-28-2006 20:07:

^ OMG. Dude, that WAS THE BEST TIME IN ORANGE ROOM EVER. Boy did that set kick some serious ass.

if it wasn't for him what you consider to be breaks probably wouldn't exist. REAL heads would appreciate the heads up on the chance to a true living legend in every sense of the word.

i don't like the snarky tone of that showing up comment. was that supposed to be an attempt at humor?

ya I know.. it's only the 2nd time in the last 8 years.

Posted by Misanthrope on Sep-29-2006 01:22:

so what? if we want to show to a breaks event, we will discuss it here. There's no need for promoters to come in and post it for us.
We all know where the event listings are posted.

In fact, it's you with the snarky attitude of anything being asked or said to you about your events. Don't worry there's no discussion of TIL in here.

Posted by activate on Sep-29-2006 01:31:

cool.

don't bother coming to any Activate events anymore then.
I don't want your negativity there. Positive vibes and positive people who truly love the music is more important to me then a few dollars.

and Fridays at London is not an Activate night. I have nothing to do with the organization of anything there.

Posted by Misanthrope on Sep-29-2006 01:37:

o rly eh?
so i have one criticism about you and your attitude and now i'm not allowed to come to activate events?
sorry - i'm still coming. Love how you deal with an unsatisfied guest.

cya at the next ACTIVATE event.

Posted by activate on Sep-29-2006 01:49:

I do my best to take care of people when they may be unsatisfied. however, not people that are nice to my face and take jabs on message boards.

Don't bother coming. you're banned. I'm serious. If you show, i will give you your money back and have you removed. R.O.A.R... it stands for Right Of Admission Refusal. Positive people need only apply.

and I also want to point out that, yes.. i am a promoter. does that mean I'm not allowed to participate in discussion on anything music related? I promote events because i love the music first and foremost. I bring certain talent here because I am a fan first and foremost. I would assume that like minded individuals would appreciate the heads up from one HEAD to another.

end of discussion.

Posted by Misanthrope on Sep-29-2006 02:01:

No. it's not that you are promoter. It's your attitude.
There's no need for it.

That was definitely a fun set.
I could have done without the little hip hop mix in the middle of it though, although I didn't mind the tunes played.. lol

One thing I've always loved about Atomic Hooligan.. is that he blends in other genre's of music into his set. Love it when he throws down the hip hop and starts scratching!

diversity is key IMO.

OR when freq nasty drops "killing in the name of" in the middle of his set. jesus that was fucked (in a best possible way).

i dont understand why is there lotsa people who dislike hip hop this much. the underground started taking over lately so there is not that much bling bling bullcrap. with rakim coming out fucking stronger that he's ever been, talib kweli, mos def, common, even fucking fugees making new album, the future of hip hop (breaks also) looks better than back in the 90's, imo.

hearth and soul of breakbeats is hip-hop and funk, in that exact order. i have to say that there is some cool nu skool shit but if you put too much blip blip and whatnot in breaks, you're taking away all the good dirtyness and illnes.

progressive breaks my ass. "forward thinking" my ass. but to each his own. give me old school funky shit any day and your girl, your sister AND your moms will be like "ooooh you so cute and you gots moves".

but, like i said, to each his own.

ev have you heard greg j's set from make it funky some 2-3 months ago??

p.s. its breaks thread so we can talk about anything breaks here. ESPECIALLY if bam is coming again. promoter, breakhead, lightshowgiver, fucking crackhead, its godfather of hiphop and breaks goddamit.

o yeah, malente is coming soon too

Posted by m2j on Sep-29-2006 05:26:

glad you guys are enjoying the freestylers set.

i've had it for a while, but a few days ago i gave it a re-listen and it blew me away. i loved the variety and genre-crossovers.
i was enjoying it so much, I just had to share the love.

but i agree with cosmic, the mixing was a bit rough between genres, but from what i remember at Freedom, when they mixed in the hiphop that night fairly nicely... i guess this recording was just an off night for them.

but in a club when you're nice and drunk... everything sounds a little better

I've heard rumours for a while...is that confirmed?!? awesome! Lyrically, Fugees were brilliant...and Lauryn was at her best during that time too, IMHO (re: Zealots).

agreed on 'Push Up' being one of the best tracks in a long time...I'd add AH's mix of ILS - Loving You...sick!

I'm hungry for another breaks night in Orange Room...Freestylers and Icey were definitely highlights of '06 for me.

anyone have a decent Afrika Bambaataa set to share? gotta make my halloween weekend decisions soon...Beyer @ 99 Sudbury...or this one.

Posted by activate on Sep-29-2006 20:10:

I haven't really dug around for one... but when I have looked i haven't found anything.

Expect to hear Old School Hip Hip, Funk, Electro, Breaks, even some house and techno... the one constant being FUNKY. Tonnes of bootlegs that you've never and never will hear again. I went on a little tour with him last year.. the one track that sticks out in my mind was this silly funky as shit remix of MR. POSTMAN!!
