As for football that really matters. Group B is shaping up to be a fantastic finish. Isn't it just like us scots to bottle it against the smaller nation. It's going to be quite a day of football at hampden when italy come to call. As a fan of italian football I'm left torn as to what I want from the game. Seeing scotland and their fans return to tournament football would be really special and great for the game in this country, but loosing the world champions because of it would detract from the spectacle of the euro championships I feel.

Whatever the result I know I'm going to take it tight for being a half tally in glasgow. Can't fuckin wait but.

honestly dude what the fuck have Scotland ever won? You sound like my roomate harping on about non-existent Scottish glory in the ever present English shadow. Face it...England dominates you in everything, history and sports included.

Besides, Scotland lost 2 nil to fucking Georgia. You have no right to even be arguing anything in here. They aren't going to qualify.

A nation of 5 million can hardly be expected to compete against such might now can we?

Besided with my dad being italian I tend to follow the azzuri when i watch international football anyway as my previous posts on here will tell you (see world cup 2006 thread). Now lets see what have we won. just the 4 world cups..

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Oct-19-2007 20:25:

^^^^ so basically you cop out and take the side of either Scotland or Italy whenever it suits you?

Italy certainly are talented...but how you don't feel embarrassed in which the way Italy won their last World Cup is beyond me.

Posted by fcuk on Oct-20-2007 04:57:

Embarresing? No, not at all. I think we quiet rightly deserved to win the World cup considering of all the past luck we have had in WC history and the scandals that rocked our league just before the WC started. We put on brave faces and played with heart in all our games.

Out of all the games we played one little thing goes wrong and what everyone thinks we didn't deserve to win? Get the fuck out of here. Btw did you see how France got to the final? A blatent dive from Henry that gave them a 1-0 win from penalty spot.

What happened in the 2002 World Cup against South Korea really was a load of bullshit and pissed us off, it then eventually happened to Spain. Imagine if it were ENGLAND? im sure you would be pretty pissed. Now you understand why we were so happy about winning 2006 World Cup.

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Oct-20-2007 08:58:

I guess you missed that fucking atrocious call against the Australian defender in the Aussie-Italy game in 2006 then eh? You know...when he purposefully fell over the defender when he didn't even have the ball? That was one of the worst fucking calls I've ever seen. Save for the Germany game (in which they showed gritty determination) Italy practically dove their way to that title and FIFA turns a blind eye to all their play acting. Also, how you or anyone else can defend someone like Metarazzi astonishes me.

But if you want to talk about a country getting fucked in international football, then England has suffered far more than Italy. 86 WC Hand of God? 98 disallowed goal? 2004 disallowed goal? Rooney's red card in 2006? How about the fact that England never lost a game in the 82 World Cup yet didn't advance due to that ridiculously unfair system? Even the foul called on Rooney on Wednesday was fucking three yards outside the box yet a penalty was given!

So don't give me any fucking Italian whining.

Posted by fcuk on Oct-21-2007 15:29:

Yes i agree it was a bad call. How many other teams dive and you know it. Btw there were worse dives that happened that words couldn't describe especially from Figo and C.Ronaldo. Like i said before France dived their way yet no one ever complained about them , goes to show how many people just love to hate Italy.

Oh and because Italy has never been fucked that much in International football either The only bad game we played was against Australia i don't know what your on about cos i think we played all of our other games fairly...perhaps you wern't watching.

The problem with England is the cockiness and yet use whine more than us Italians when you have on paper a team of fucking stars that in anyones right mind should be winning world cups by the palm of your hands but somehow find other excuses.

Posted by Dervish on Oct-21-2007 20:30:

Dj Smitty20 want hard calls watch the three stone wall pens Scotland got nothing from in the last two games.

We're a small small country but we punch above our weight. England should have qualified from that group without a doubt. Enlgand have had amazing players and still do. But as has been said they arn't 'due' anything which they seem to forget sometimes.

Would love them and us to qualify, could even lead to a match up maybe? lol But as it stands would consider we are both gonna be out (tough in all seriousness hampden is a VERY hard place to go, and french have to play ukraine away too).

As for the history comment about Scotland you obviously have no idea the contribution we have made to the world at all (could go into depth about it but belive me i could blow that point out of the water).

Actually no, I have supported italy over scotland all my life, but living in scotland, and seeing what effect the teams good run of form is having in the country, I wouldn't really mind them going thru at the expense of Italy, after all we are the second most successful team in the world, so missing 1 euro championship won't affect us that much in the long run. I would still support italy over scotland in any other circumstance.

How italy won the world cup was by having the best defence in the tournament so don't kid yourself on. Even against australia we created chances playing 11vs10. If you want bad calls then how about you take a look at materazzi's straight red card? it was outside the box and there was another player covering the guy running thru with the ball.

Face it, 1 call didn't win us the world cup, being better prepared did and thats something you jealous english will never get over.

HEH, good-BYE England!

Tiny CROATIA, with its population of only 4.4 million, walked into
Wembley and officially eliminated England from Euro 2008 with a 3-2 victory.

On to Austria-Switzerland!!!

Posted by noikeee on Nov-21-2007 22:13:

england: epic lulz. congratulations to croatia for a great win even if it didn't matter to them. hopefully this time croatia will come back to the euro96/wc98 form.

we sucked ass and qualified without beating poland, serbia or finland not even once. yawn.

I am SO glad we lost, we didn't deserve fuck all. Passionless wankers, can't believe it.

Agreed, didn't watch the game cause of classes, but through the qualifiers in general, pretty piss-poor performance overall. McClaren deserves the sack imho, not that he's a bad guy, just terrible choices time and again. Hopefully the FA bring in someone with actual experience this time around.

1st goal - Great shot from Kranjcar, but come on the save was poor. I don't know what McLaren was thinking using an inexperienced keeper in such a crucial match. If he didn't think Robinson was in form, he should have stuck James in. At least he has the experience.

2nd goal - Fantastic pass by Eduardo. Really caught the defence napping with 3 guys failing to close him down and allowing Olic to run through.

3rd goal (Pen) - Talk about the Refs protecting the "big teams" rolleyes.gif. That wasn't a penalty. He barely touched his shirt and he was nowhere near the ball. The Ref needs to let plays like that go, especially if he's not going to do the same for the other team.

4th Goal - Masterful goal, really was. Full credit to Crouch and Beckham. I've said if before and I'll say it again but Beckham is a master passer and the Beckham/Crouch combination is exactly what works well against Croatia. He should have started.
Great control by Crouch. I thought he was going to header it in but he finished it well.

5th Goal - Well, that's why he's our starter normally. Petric unfortunately has been on antibiotics due to the flu but he proved his skill with that shot. Perhaps the keeper could have saved it but you can't really blame him too much. It was curling away.

Definitely an entertaining match but we were the better side. It's amazing how many calls went against us. The big nations are always protected. Damn Swiss!

Some close chances bu us as well that really should have been goals.

The pitch....oh dear. That was disgraceful. England is meant to have the best pitches and pride themselves on it but that was horrible. Playable but on the bottom side, the players had to do small steps to even stop. If they were going to play the NFL match there, why wasn't this game played in Old Trafford, or even better at Emirates?!?

lol at the Russians. They almost gave you another lifeline with a guy sent off in the last 5min. Hiddink and the millions of Russians owe us badly.

McLaren...needs to go. He's rubbish.

I'm very happy with how we played. We've always had a habit of backing down but we've finally built up a team that knows how to hold the ball and can keep attacking. Roll on Euro 2008.

Posted by woscar on Nov-22-2007 01:32:

What a big fucking joke...England NEVER should have left Sven go, specially for such an inexperienced dumbass like McLaren

Posted by Rockabye on Nov-22-2007 14:24:

I'm disappointed about England. Thought we would kick their ass @ Euro Cup like we did so many times before.

Well, yes we do. But, problem with England is their pumped up ego. They thought that they will pass this qualification stage painless, and that was their biggest mistake. They didn't have luck with injuries either...

Posted by Simcut on Nov-23-2007 13:25:

^ yep

The players are to blame as well as the manager.

Posted by Intuition on Nov-24-2007 17:06:

Capello, or Lippi or Mourinho (both unlikely) would be good replacements. There just aren't any English managers that are quality, or free from their club responsibilities, to take this on, and the FA don't want to make the same mistake again.
