He definately played it, or tried too. I agree with you here. It is a strangely awesome track, but his mix was way off. He basically ruined the uniqueness of the song.

generic and dull tracklist i thought. i take back that maybe you haven't seen anything good, but it just wasn't well done. it stopped midway into it, that basically ruins the time for me in the first place. i split to the outside after that, because the people partying outside were more into it. people weren't really dancing inside... it seemed like alot of people that have never really been to an event before.

i heard more people asking if pvd was any good than anything about how good he is. i went with about 15 people who have been going to events for years, and everybody agreed that the event wasn't good. he didn't play a single track that actually excited anybody, except for 4strings. i think he dropped royksopp - what else is there. in there too if i remember, and that's a pretty dope track, but didn't mesh with the rest of the stuff he played. i couldn't dance to any of it really...

i'm not trying to offend anybody, just give an honest opinion, and hopefully next year will be better so the people that read all these positive reviews and get excited will have something to be excited about.

well said. I don't understand why we have to get into arguments over tastes. I like PvDs sets but don't think that I will be paying to see him anytime soon, like I said earlier. You enjoy it - great.

PvD used to be intoxicating like a drug. Now you have to take drugs to dig what he's doing. Sorry.

About a group of 10 ppl came down from Ottawa to see PvD (cause he doesnt come up here) as well as to check out NYC (the first time for most of us). NYC is an amazing city to visit. It has an endless amount of things to do.

First off, I stopped listening to trance a few years ago, and even then, I wasn't really into PvD. But I'm still always open to seeing some of the bigger DJs (none of us have ever seen him prior to this). And our group regularily parties in Montreal, so I'd say that our standards are pretty high.

The venue itself was solid. Great lighting and effects, but the sound was subpar IMO (no speakers in the back?). I found the drummer to be a nice touch. I give props to him cause it must take a lot of talent to keep up with tracks that fast, which he (most likely) didnt know. The bathroom situation was aweful however, as was the beer. I have to say that i was impressed by the crowd, they seemed very lively. I was a little worried at the beginning cause the crowd was dead when he came on. But i relate this to the fact that there was no warm up Dj (which is brutal, especially for a 4 hour set).

Now, as for PvD... he was good. He was very into it for one thing, unlike what I've 'heard'. And he does indeed have good technical skills. However, like many ppl have said, he was a bit all over the place. But i really cant blame him cause he had to keep everyone into it at an outdoor party (if he played too much trance in succession, I would get bored as would many). I also didnt like how he sometimes lowered the volume at certain parts of tracks in order to weakly build up the crowd. I also have to agree with not liking the constant quick mixing. It's ok to do here and there just to mix things up for a change, but not to do it for 3-4 tracks in a row.

Overall, I had a good time. And this is in light of me not listening to or particularily liking trance these days (I'm a tech-house fan btw). And in the end, that's all that matters. Having a good time is the reason why I come to these parties...

tech house is fun. all kinds of music are fun, but somehow pvd couldnt manage to make me see it through his set.

and yes new york city is an amazing place, hope you had a great time just looking at everything!

Ok...got back from NYC Monday evening. Went to both events and I enjoyed Friday night a lot better than Saturday's. Lights were crazzzzy. I thought PVD's track selection was a lot better than last year's. It was good meeting a lot of TA's that I haven't met before. Umm....can't think anymore. I'm tired, at work and still recovering. These two nights in a row events are too much to handle for me. I think I'm getting too old.

aha fuck you man. he has 3 laptops and they aren't all setup? he's using one, and relied on it too heavily. and yes, go back to vinyl would be the solution. don't think he'd bother to put that much effort forth though.

i can't believe you would try to defend that? oh well everybody just loves stuff and won't see things any other way i guess. you sir, are an idiot.

defend a technical problem? oh god, what was i thinking?!?.......and go back to vinyl? come on now, its 2006. he does some great things with ableton. it stopped for all of 5 mins and it certainly didn't ruin my night.

i'm amazed at how many people come on here and complain everytime pvd plays yet still go to his shows. do they really like to complain that much? have fun and stop over analyzing every show...especially ones in a concert venue like this one was!! yes he plays old tracks, that is what happens when you play for a broad scope of people. 95% of the people there sang along to "time of our lives" its called a classic. do you think the stones only play tracks off their most recent album?

**EDIT** That rant is in reference to people who are just giving a complete bashing to the night. Not those who simply had a difference of opinion.

Posted by yankeeBaby on Aug-22-2006 16:31:

I went to Pvd on Friday and it was aight...not as good at the last two I have gone too. The lights were amazing and I actually liked the drummer....and I always love when a DJ is having a good time. I see the reviews and I think the TA's might have been the only one's with criticisms tho, bc it seemed as if 99% of the people there were going buck wild. hehe I got into it for a while but I liked his other shows better.

Dinaire party was awesome, I wouldn't hesitate to see him or go to the venue again....even tho I was sooo icky looking after 10+hours of dancing and being in huge crowds....eww...sucks to meet so many people at that time of night LOL LOL scary!!!

*On that note tho, I met some fantabulous people, and I talked their ears off!! Can't wait to see yo asses in toronto in a couple weeks!!!*

how old are most of you that you need to throw in backhanded comments and passive agressive statements? I mean come on.......

Posted by dxsire on Aug-22-2006 16:58:

nobody i know liked it. i didn't really like it too much last year either, but it was better i think. the only reason i bothered going was because it was all ages and that meant alot of my friends cousins and tons of other ppl were going. i also saw him at the roxy in november or whatever, that was a terrible show too. he just seems to be getting worse. oh well, have fun liking that stuff. i wish i was as easily amused thats all. i'm a big jealous hater.

I had fun, but I also went in without a negative attitude, I know he'd play some of the same ole same ole, but I prepared myself for that. I for one like that he laced in a lotta electro, or tech house/trance, as a dancer; I don't want to dance to the same freakin song after the same freakin song. He kept me moving, with ups and downs and big smiles The drummer was kewl, but esp. Friday, he overpowered PVD making his set sound like the hi's were maxed out. thanks be to god that they fixed it for Saturday. And once in a while he'd come in a tad slow, and make it sound like a trainwreck. I loved the rain on saturday; just enough (anyone notice every breakdown that dropped, it'd rain harder?? lol... rain button is right next to the flanger!)

I have some videos; more are on their way; probably later on.

I'd appreciate it if anyone can ID them, I really suck at remembering things LOl!

My only vid from Saturday (before the rain) and gosh did I likey dis!

I likey Dis Click Here

This was played both nights; and my favorite track of his set:
My Favorite Part A Click Here
My favorite part B Click Here

The track with the male vocal..
I Feel Love click here

U2 Remix, Nu NRG maybe??
With Or Without You click Here

Thats all for now, the connection here keeps crappin' out so later today I can get some more of them up. thanks before hand to anyone who id's them
