my setup

Hereīs my setup a pair of technics 1200s and a gemini 626 mixer.
Iīm thinking about getting a pair of cdj-100s, but to do that i have to sell a deck, i donīt know what to do, because i like vinyl but i donīt have money to buy records each week, and at the moment iīm only djing as a hobby.
peace
ps: my first post! hello everyone

Posted by mantisnl on Aug-13-2002 18:56:

i`d stay with vinyl, mayb u get an chance 2 spin @ an club and u`ll earn some nice money 2 keep ur vinyl collection updated..

but still its ur own choice..

You're a scratch DJ Pontiac? Why would you even consider CDJ-100 if you are?

Posted by dj_pontiac on Aug-13-2002 22:11:

iīm really a trance dj (i have my computer hooked up to the tables so maybe soon iīll upload a real audio mix), but i always try new thing i donīt like being stuck with the same thing...
here is the problem, iīm in south america and i canīt get vinyls i mean i just canīt the price is 4 times higher than europe or usa, scratch vinyls donīt exist at all, the 2 i had i got them from internet and they cost me a lot (like 50 dollars each)
i wish i got to work as a dj in a club but thats very hard here too since most clubs arenīt dance clubs (i mean electronic music), most of them play latin music, and that comes on cd, i donīt want to give up on vinyl but how would u feel knowing that you canīt have new music... it has been almost half a year since i got my last record, i kept on practising with the same records over and over, coz i like them but thereīs a point where it becomes more a work than a hobby, you know, listening the same records over and over, and NOT adding new ones...
about being a scratch dj, im far away from that, but i think if i could get hip hop vinyls or scratch lps, i would like to get more into that, but like i said, things here are very different from the north
anyway, i will keep the tables, i didnīt want to sell them in the first place, but it gets tedius having to play the same records all the time, maybe i should rest for a while and then get back to it
well, i hope you understand my situation
peace
PS: thanks guys, i realised that vinyl is what i love, altough having decks and cds wouldnīt hurt

Posted by ampburner on Aug-14-2002 02:45:

@ pontiac, I think scott thought you were a 'scratch' DJ because of the way you have your TT's set up (tone arm/pitch slider on the far side), which is very common in turntablism.

Posted by dj_pontiac on Aug-14-2002 02:57:

yeah, i put them that way so the needle is away from where i make the scratches in order not to make it skip, also the scratch records behind and the shure m44-7 stylus on the tables complete the picture
ĻYou're a scratch DJ Pontiac? Why would you even consider CDJ-100 if you are?Ļ
i was thinking about this, why canīt a scratch dj buy a cd player? i mean djing should be about trying new things and not the other way around
peace

Scratchy seal on the right deck! youhou!

I never understood the deal about putting tape on the actual record to try to place your samples ? can you explain that to me better cause it seems that they just put a big piece of tape at the sample and then the record plays from that sample ... but were do you set the needle? edge of the tape?
I don't know if you understand my question ...
I do understand about setting tape in the middle for the twelve o'clock position.

Posted by dj_pontiac on Aug-14-2002 22:04:

hi jdat, if u mean the sticker on record i use it to have a visual help, it helps me to know when a sample starts or ends, the seal picture doesnīt help so i put those stickers
i didnīt just put them randomly also, if i place the needle right i know where the sample i want start and ends so i donīt need to cue for it
hope it helps
peace

Hello! About Techs being the standard!...

Alright kids, not to open the proverbial can here...

Techs were/are the industry standard because they patented the first efficient direct drive quartz motor. Patented... meaning after 20 years, its open market technology...

enter Numark, with the TTX - the same dang motor design as the tech, but with bells and whistles....

look for your techs to be worth less and less, and numark and vestax to be betta and betta

Industry standard will still cling to them, but the new numarks are a much better buy

and yah, I got to play with em, they kick a heck of a lot of tail...
pitch bend is selectable, 10, 20, and 50%, pluse the reverse is instant...

Take it easy!

i can see another flame war starting right about now!

Actually the TT-X's don't have the same motor. They are the first deck to use a 2 part direct drive motor.

I sit corrected, and I definately am not starting any wars. I've never been to any parties where Techs weren't on stage. And every rider that is sent in lists 1200's - oddly enough, I saw oakey spin on a pair of ratty-ass ghetto 12mk2's and a mtx mixer once (crossfader was broken, and 5 nobby's were gone. he still mixed like a fiend.)

I humbly retract any offensive pro-numark statements for all you tech heads out there
