Waitressing...

Nothing brilliant, but it will help me pay the bills, and that's all that's important.

YAYNESS FOR ME

What hooters?

Just remember to spit in peoples food that are nasty to you, than watch them stuff it down their throats and enjoy every second of it.

Nice one! Waiting tables isn't so bad at all. Do people tip much in Canada? Never been there. Nobody tips much here...

Well that is where all the money comes from. A waitress makes about 6.50 an hour, and the rest comes solely from tips.

A good waitress can make a lot of money from tips. This restaurant is a lot busier than the old one I used to work at, so I am guessing on a slower night, I will make around $40, and on a better night around $100.

However, that is just a guess. We'll see once I start.

I am happy about it. The people who work there seem really nice, and it's a much nicer situation than the last waitressing job I had (did all the dishes, seating, and waitressing for an entire restaurant of up to 40 tables.)

Anyway, it will be money coming in, and that's the important thing.

Waitresses actually recieve a smaller minimum wage than a regular worker, simply because we do get tips.

$6.75
per hour for a waitress

$7.75
per hour for a regular worker

$7.25
per hour for people younger than 18

thats not that bad...
here in massachusetts, the state minimum is 6.75, but i know waitresses who get 2.50/hour

Posted by Ivand on Sep-29-2006 18:01:

You have to take into account that our dollar is worth less than yours. So when I am making 6.75 and hour, I am essentially making about 6.04 in USD.

Then, you have to account for the taxes they take each pay check, which leave you with a lot less.

I may as well be getting paid 3.50 an hour.

US waitresses get taxed on wages and tips.

We're supposed to claim ours and be taxed on them as well, but.. I don't think many waitresses bother.

SidML, I am still living in a cardboard box,ok, not really so the money can help me out still, but if you want it back for real, PM me, and I can arrange to send it back.

In the US, restaurants are supposed to track what you made daily in tips. When I worked in the restaurant business, most of our servers would claim betwee 40-60% of their tips only
