| Originally posted by Psy-T the police exist to uphold the laws of the land, they're not above the law, they are half of the executive hand of the law. when policemen lose even a bit of their objectivity (as in your irrelevant anecdote), they're no longer policemen - ideally speaking that is - and who needs a police force that can't stand up to the ideal? an illusion of safety is not preferable neither to safety itself, nor to the lack of both. |

Originally posted by Dj_Skez Good for that emo fucking kid, He should'nt have told the officer to get off him the first place. If he was from the hood , he would've known that you never talk back to an officer, if he listened to his commands in the first fucking place , he wouldn't have gotten the tazer. Then you hear the other UCLA students, majority of them probably pampered by their parents, saying things like "don't do that" , "get off him" and bullshit like that, ye , like that's going to help. You can call me anything you guys want, I'm speaking from experience on this one. Police officers go through shit every day and risk their fucking lives usually for a 30 to 35k a year starting salary and so it's easy for them to get pissed off. I have a Puerto Rican friend in the bronx who's in the 49th precinct and he's been a patrolman for a little over a year now. I've always known him to as being a mellow headed kid, but after a little over a year in the force , he told me he can't stand the morenas(African Americans)and other Latinos and caucations that he pulls over. I've never known him to be a racist, but after a little over a year in the force , he told me some stories you wouldn't believe. So before you jump the fucking "omg, that wasn't right" wagon, consider the shit these officers go through. If that pampered UCLA student would've kept his mouth shut and not told the officers to "get off him" he would've been fine. |

| Originally posted by Jarvmeister So, the majority of the world, those that do 'conform', they're pathetic are they? Figures of authority have been put there for a reason, and you might find this hard to swallow, but it's for YOUR own good. I don't conform for the sake of conforming, you're throwing in things you've made up. I see a lot of point in doing what I'm told to do. People haven't made the rules purely for the sake of pissing me off, they've done it for the benefit of society as a whole. The big advantage of my conforming is that no one tazers me, no one locks me in prison and I get the satisfaction that I'm functioning as a decent and respected member of society. Your attitude, much the same as my rather juvenile younger brother, is typical of this belief these days that rules ARE meant to be broken, and it's your right to do WHATEVER you want. You cannot. Grow up! Jarv |

If a figure of authority asks me to do something I do it. It's a good rule to live by and you end up leading a simpler life for it. |

| Originally posted by venomX It doesn't say " I find that accepting rules in society, when they are valid, makes for smoother interaction with my peers, which in turn enhances my quality of life ". It says, i conform, because i can't be bothered to do other wise, even if what I'm conforming to is unreasonable. |

For those of you that still don't think this is 'political', it's sure starting to turn into one and fast...
Cries for the cops and military recruiters to leave campus by the students:

I'm sure the LA Gangs will love that.
In fact, that's a great idea, lets see what happens with NO cops and see how long that lasts before someone gets killed or raped.
I'm sure this tasering 'injustice' will look pale in comparison with the cries of, 'Where are the cops when you need them'.
...and of course the MSM (Main Stream Media) is eating up this photo:

CAIR of course has to stick their nose into it since he was Iranian and Mostafa alleges racial profiling:
| quote: |
CAIR: ISLAMIC LEADERS CALL FOR PROBE OF STUDENT TASERING Southern California Islamic leaders are calling for an independent investigation into Tuesday night's incident at the UCLA library where campus police apparently stunned a student with a "Taser" gun. The Council on American-Islamic Relations urged "state and national authorities, including the FBI" to investigate the incident involving the 23-year-old Mostafa Tabatabainejad. A camera phone captured Tabatabainejad being stunned repeatedly after he allegedly refused repeated requests to show his student I-D and would not leave a campus library. Campus officials are investigating the incident. But the American-Islamic relations group says an outside probe's needed to make sure the case's "civil rights aspects" are taken seriously. |
Oh yea, one other thing,
In case you're wondering about the taser...
(Taken from a different tasering incident)
| quote: |
A Taser shocks in two ways, Sharp said. It can shoot probes fishhook-like electrical contacts that penetrate the skin and deliver the shock directly into the muscles, known as tasing. Or it can be used in direct contact with the skin, with no penetration, known as drive stun. Hopkins was drive stunned, Sharp said. Drive stun is just basic sensory, he said It doesnt affect the central nervous system per se. Its just on the surface of the skin. |
