Considering that he's never been the MMP of that particular riding. (IIRC, his previous seat was somewhere else)

Ah, the media spin. How wonderfully they amuse me

hahha u really hoped I'd say more to that...i guess i had you going hehehe
i dunno the way i view it...yes it's bad he promised one thing and ended up raising the taxes regardless...but it's just the way our system/politics work..even though presenting another tax increase sucks....being taxed pays for a certain "comfortable" life style; good healthcare etc...maybe there was an unexpected last minute cost that came up and he had no other choice but to betray his promise

i guess it's really what you want in your politicians.

i want people in leadership roles to have a decent set of integrity.
once we accept that politicians are all liars and lacks any sense of moral fibre, we accept that as the norm and quality of people we elect goes down hill. (and already has tremendously)

we should, and must hold our politicians to a higher standard.

reality is that we don't, hence why mcguinty got reelected

good luck with that...in politics it will ALWAYS be about choosing the lesser of the evil bc they're ALL corrupt in some way or another

To be fair, so are you. Well, corrupt might be a strong word, but you have your own faults Politician faults just get highlighted more often

Right. This thread has gone down the road of useless chit chat

i'm annoyed that he got elected promising not to raise taxes, but go on to raise taxes.

he had to do something....the PCs completely blind sided him with a debt that none of the parties knew was as bad as it was.....I am willing to see what he does this time as he hasn't been handed over a province in complete distress.....if there are broken promises this time then there will be no way in hell he will get elected again.

To Jay (Jayx1):

I am glad Frank Klees won my riding.

Last year or so, I said he'd have my vote if ever he ran in Aurora.

You should buy a lottery ticket

Edit: Never mind, that was a retarded post.

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAA another 4 years of liberalism

im holding mr mcguinty to all the promises he made and that he actually improves life in ontario. since he bullshitted his way thru the first 4 years, ill give him a second chance to redeem himself here

...looks like Dalton is following through on his first promise.

3rd monday in February will be known as family Day...

woohoo

Posted by smuncky on Oct-12-2007 04:03:

you!

you're out of my will

Posted by djbruuen on Oct-12-2007 14:10:

i'm definitely down with a new long weekend. why the hell not? i just hope my family doesn't take 'family day' too literally.

on the down side...we need a long weekend in june! even from an economical stand point, so many places could make a lot more money in june than in february.

I think someone needs to make Remembrance Day a Statutory holiday first.

Posted by Abercrombie on Oct-12-2007 15:39:

Dalton can have this lousy day back in return for my health tax back

Posted by djbruuen on Oct-12-2007 15:39:

yes agreed. My old job used to pay 1 1/2 for working rememberance day.

agreed.

This "family day" may not be an "accomplishment", but this additional stat holiday does put Ontario on par with several other provinces.

at least Dalton has it as a stat holiday, so that parents aren't faced with day care issues as they are for mere school holidays.

now if only we could have a European model. Doesn't Spain provide for something like *60* holidays, lol! let's not get into standard 4-6 weeks off to start from many employers there.

*sigh*

Posted by ChemEnhanced on Oct-12-2007 20:02:

I get four weeks holidays already and I can't find the time to use them. I've used a total of 6 holiday days out of my 20 for this year and will probably only take another 3 or 4 days.

Thats because Canadian companies like to treat their employees like slaves.

Why not just push harder for your holidays?

The company would have no problem in letting me take them.....just too much work to do....besides, a week off probably costs me $1,000.00 in bonus money I could make from what I bill in that week.

+1

Do we have a stat holiday in Nov yet? I don't think so...

I did that until this year, when I was so stressed that I *needed* some breaks. I have three weeks (four starting next spring) and had one week saved from last year, so I've gone away 3 times now and thank fuck that I did or one or two people in my company, or clients, might be dead :P

my problem is similar to your bonus dilemna. ~75% of my pay is commission so 3-4 weeks off can be quite a chunk of change

Yes, along with a ridiculous amount of vacation, and after having been there in August (during the peak of those holidays), I can safely say that it really wouldn't hurt for them to get off their asses instead of taking so many damn holidays.

Sorry, Ibiza doesn't count, you have to see the non-fairytale parts of the country in order to understand what I'm talking about. Seriously - you don't want Ontario running on Spain's business model.

I also wanted to comment on the "McGuinty had too much debt to keep his promises" claim - I realize that the PC left some debt behind, but have you forgotten how much they went in with? And yet Harris was able to keep most of his campaign promises, somehow.
