What??? The bass doesn't have to go on the offbeat?? gtfo!

Posted by cronodevir on Aug-07-2007 12:12:

Bassline melody can be as simple or complex as your lead melody. It can be any size notes aswell, just as your lead melody. It can be an arp, a gate, etc etc....

Just to be sure, you ppl DO know kick, clap, hat, and snare arn't the ONLY percs in existance?

Aalto - 5 (Original Mix), now that's a cool bassline in my opinion.

the best tip we here at David & Carr can offer u guys with out giving away to many secrets is use your imagination. If you can think it up try it and do it. You will find that many times doing this you will create many special club rocking basslines. If you want ill write a few tuts for this thread on basslines.

Thanks,
Wes Johnson

I don't think that's the case, it's just that a lot of noobs tend to smack on an off beat bass, and don't bother experimenting further - because they just don't know how to get the sound they want. This thread is to inform people who NEED insight into how a rolling bassline could be created. It did help me quite a bit back in the day!

Posted by benoster on Feb-05-2008 20:53:

ohhh man this thread is a hawt!! thumps up!! to the thread starter ,
i use wasp mainly with some delay on it and often ts404 layered with wasp , i follow the same sequential patterns listed by others in the early posts

not a proffesional thou ,my 2 cents

K---K---K---K--
--b---b---b---b- <----- if this is the structure ,or lets say
somethin else like this

K---K---K---K---
-bb---b--b-b--bb-

what i do is in fl
go to the channel window
click the function menu
in the arpegiator window
select arpegiator direction down
set the range to 3
and then simply change the not up ,that is ,if its c5 change it to c6 or c7 or c8 u can hear some good arpegiated basslines ,a bit of stereo delay would also be nice ,don't know whether there is some mistakes but this is my kinda style
hope this helps ,and correct if some mistakes are there

cool thread so i take it you layer basslines to fit each other to give you a groove then.

how would you create this bassline if you dont mind me asking

peter martijn wijnia pres majesta not the end tom colontonio remix

Heres one I made today after reading this thread. I layered a V-station bass 1 preset with a Vanguard zombie bass preset. Hope these pictures help someone!

Sounds like this:

http://www.*********.net/mix/view/id_1675/

V-station pattern looks like this:

http://img296.**************/img296/...tionbasszf8.jpg

Zombie pattern this:

http://img520.**************/img520/...mbiebassxe7.jpg

(edit) I dont know why it wont let me post the name of the place where the sample is at, maybe cause im new here?

Anyway the *'d out name is my dj space with no spaces between the words.

I didn't read through the whole thread, not sure whether or not the use of arpeggiators has been mentioned for basslines.

I made a whole lot of MIDI clips of various bassline/ arpeggio patterns (basslines out of this or a similar thread, arpeggios out of MIDIs on nonstop2k), then trying to fit them into songs by moving the notes up, down etc...

Fiddly and time-consuming. Then I dug into the Arpache tools in Cubase and noticed - hey! You can grab MIDI clips and drop them into Arpache! Now, if I want to preview a certain trance pattern, I don't have to use the actual MIDI clips anymore and move them around. Arpache automatically applies the pattern to the notes/chords you want to apply them to.

I'm sure a heap of arpeggiators allow you to simply drag in MIDI patterns. I have around 70 cool patterns all lined up, that way it's such a breeze to just cycle through them and quickly find patterns that groove with the song. Once you've found one, you can either use the arpeggiator or find and use the original MIDI clip and tweak it (I kinda like having all the notes displayed, once the song is finished. It means I can quickly create a MIDI file and have all the information for each track.)

So there you go. I heartily recommend arpeggiators for basslines!

This sucks! I wish I would have seen this thread when it started. Today it's filled with nothing but 404 errors

Posted by Nicolas Oliver on Nov-16-2008 04:08:

This is a very helpful thread! I'm excited to try out many of these different bass-line patterns

Thank you for the suggestions.

Nice basslines. Thank u all! And something should be mentioned, with a heavy sidechain compression you can make many NEW and creative basses!
Listen to LEMON N EINARK-HOLD ME NOW.
There are 2 basses, 1 sidechained and one not. Great style together.
(hey its ma first post here! )

Posted by kadomony on Apr-01-2009 20:21:

http://drop.io/hpxbyc9

i included demo mp3s with each of my pattern & bass over a drumloop from the original so you can hear what it sounds like.
enjoy

Maybe it's just me but I find making a bass line the easiest thing in the world. Then again, I actually play bass. (The instrument) Maybe that could help you guys? Learn to play a bass?

meh, just a suggestion. It certainly won't hurt.
