I think you did a great decision by telling her you physically couldn't handle MOH now that you are sick. Any real BF would want the best for you and hope you can make it to her big day.

I can't believe some members even made a comment about cancer not being a good excuse.

This is exactly how I thought too. Like wtf!? You can't be understanding that someone is sick and has that serious potential to be dead or on their death bed by the time you do get married?!

Sorry I would totally not go. YOu have shown her how you are a friend (not only through money) and she has the nerve to not invite your b/f? So rude. Get rid of this "friend"; she is toxic. Continuing the friendship would only make you feel worse. Trust me, I have been through a similar experience.
