FAO - Everyone

Don't rely on the opinion of two/three southern boys from Texas to draw an accurate portrait of the issues at hand. For a more 'educated' and 'formal' opinion you should ask someone from the East Coast or the Midwest, all I'm saying is don't let a few form an inaccurare scenario of how other states approach such issues

Shit my whole closet is full of mentos and cola bottles just ready to go.

Neither should anyone rely on your opinion either.

Exactly. The fact he thinks he's more educated makes me laugh my ass off.

In any case, this is not about "me me me," nor is it even always about "the individual" in every case. It is about not having to submit to thugs who think that they should be able to intimidate people, harm them, and do whatever they please regardless of the law.

Wow, easy there dark knight or anyone would get hurt.

The problem is that the concept of "thugs" can be easily distorted...like from the scum who is trying to steal you (and because he/she steals you he/she must be shot...), to the foreigner who earns a lot of money, to the spoiled classmate and rich bully, to the cops, to the goverment...(plus many more) they are all potential "thugs" and you can be the judge with the gun!...

If I recall correctly the number on the left was the number of deaths per 100,000 and the number on the bottom was the percentage of gun ownership, so to get a percent from that you divide the number for the country by 100,000 then multiply by 100 to get percentage.

What? i don't get it...divide which number by 100.000, the homicide rate you mean? In scotland mean gun carriage is around 2% and homicide rate is also around 2 murders per 100.000, whereas the mean gun carriage in the USA is 35% and the mean homicide rate is 10 per 100.000. Now Scotland can be low but the mean rates for Europe as a whole are still not much higher. Is that difference lower than 0.1?

Notice that the rate describe USA as a whole and therefore the mean-rate of homicides and the percentage of gun-carriage could be much larger in some areas than others making the results skewed. So some states would contribute much more and others much less.

Translation: anyone who agrees with you is "educated," anyone who disagrees must be a Southern rube who lives in a trailer and dropped out of high school.

More of the typical condescending attitude that comes to the surface when this topic is discussed.

well, I am and It's not my fault. I also study at an American University with a very prestigious business school. Just so you know, my mom is a US Resident and my sister a US citizen. The fact that I currently live and plan to live here in the future ( as in reality, life in America is piece of cake compared to other places) gives me the right to express my opinion.

Also, I graduated from an I.B Accredited British High Shool with a 3.6 GPA. I'm completely fluent in two languages and I've lived in europe.

Me > You

Right divide the number of deaths by 100,000. For example 100.000/100.000 * 100% = 100% using that formula for the countries you used which is pretty much exactly what I did you come out with .01% for USA and .003% for Scotland. The difference then is .007% or seven thousandths of one percent.

The only thing that keeps us from going the exact same university is that I don't want to live in Austin. Or did you forget that I also went there which entitles me to go back whenever I want? Sorry but I don't know quite what your problem is. And I'm not going to get into a pissing match with my HS GPA or test scores . LOL @ business school You know who went to Bschool? President Chimpy and he's not more educated than anyone.

No joke.

A couple Americans argue for gun ownership, then everyone else disagrees, posts a few statistics, and starts calling the pro-gun people hicks, idiots, and primitive.

yes, plur but focus. some people get upset about stuff like this over here, threads like this trigger a reaction, it brings really strong feelings out of people. There are tons of other places for this, srsly

Education is what you take out of the experience, it's about putting your entire body to test, about analyzing and resolving problems of different magnitude and breed.

Harvard Law is perhaps the best MBA school in the country and a very respectable merit for alot of young graduates with a good resume, don't stereotype, and Intelligence is defined in many other ways than one these days.

Diggerz I think you were the one stereotyping. Or do you not understand that is what you were doing by saying people on the midwest are more 'educated'?

I understand your idea bout being put to the test but the onlything that has ever slightly tested me has been higher mathematics and quantum mechanics.
