I'm very excited about this event! I live in Denmark but I am visiting family for holiday in the states, and I decided since I missed Armin Only in Utrecht I would catch it here instead. I found a decently priced hotel not too far from the Arena and the plane ticket was fairly cheap, too.

I'm curious to know if there is any kind of dress code, especially as I will be in the VIP section? I know when I saw Tiesto at a club in the US a couple of years ago there was a very strict dress code. Can you go down into the GA area? Sometimes the VIP is a bit stuffy and you can't really get into it from there.

Also, what is a good time to show up to the venue? I've never been to L.A. before and I will only be there for 24-hours. I want to see the city then be able to get a nap before the event, but I don't want to miss Armin's opening. What about getting a cab back to the hotel? Its only three miles. Would it be insanely expensive because of the wait? Could I walk somewhere less congested and find a cab there? Or maybe take a bus?

Any ideas?

Hey!!!
There is No dress code for this event. Come as you wish! Something comfortable and cool. It will be cold outside but once inside it will get pretty hot.

Since you do not want to miss the opening I would get to the arena way before 7pm. So you can be in the front of the line.
3 miles does not seem far but in some parts of La and near the arena it is FAR!!! ie not very safe to walk. The bus would be cheaper then a cab. you just need to get a seclude and see what bus to take. But a cab would be much faster.

Hope that helps some

Dress code: I think you are going to be pretty shocked with what you see. Haha. Nothing like Denmark. I found Trance Energy a little stuffy growing up with this scene. This is not like clubbing in any country I've been.

Yes, VIP will give you wristbands to move freely where you'd like. You'll miss the atmosphere in there!

Sweetcandy girl has the right idea. Early if you are looking to see the start. You can probably weasel your way to the front of the line if you show up later, but I'm suspecting its going to be a mess (<3 Henry).

Cabs: Ugh, those bastards. From my experience they know a large event is going on so they'll try to pull this crap "oh i don't have any change." Who wants to wait an extra 15 to let them get change when you want to just get to the venue? The fare will probably be $10-20. Expect some funny business, but its the best method to get there. The surrounding area is not the safest, but considering 50000 will be leaving, walking isn't an unsafe plan after the event. Tons of cops around.

My nugget of advice: If a girl grinds on you just go with it. My friends from Europe have a hard time grasping that it doesn't exactly mean anything. I always get a chuckle from that.

So pumped. Such a great way to end the year!

Cabs in LA can be an issue IME. When you tell them where you are going, they are not likely to take you as a client. They keep their doors locked, roll down the window and ask you where you are going and then determine whether they will take you or not. Since your hotel is close by, this may be an issue as the cab drivers are looking to go to LAX or accross town. Let them know you will make it worth their while monetarily. We usually have to pay extra money (about $20) to get a driver to take us downtown especially towards the end of the night as there are tons of people waiting for a cab. Please don't walk. 4 miles is quite a distance in LA and it's just not safe from one block to the next after you pass USC. DPS will be around the local area as well as LAPD, but as up Figueroa back to your hotel, it gets pretty seedy in parts of city.

Welcome in advance to LA!! Have a wonderful time

Thank you all for the advice!

I'm glad to hear there isn't a dress code. It seems so silly to me to enforce one on an event like this. At the Tiesto event the website stressed 'business casual only' and bouncers were turning away people who didn't have on dress shoes! Sensation White this year was kinda stuffy because there was a bit of a dress code as well. I'm excited to experience this.

The cabs sound like jerks, so I will just take the bus. I can't fathom going to something like this before 7pm! Thats usually when I am laying down to get a nap (I will be very jet-lagged and tired, due to the fact I will spend the night in the airport then get into L.A. at 8am and can't check in until 3pm). I guess I will have to miss the opening because I want to take a nap, have time to get ready then go. So I'll probably show around 9ish or 10. With the VIP entrance I wouldn't think it would take too long to get in.

I'll keep that in mind! Its weird to have strangers dance up on you for no reason. Then again, Danes aren't famous for sharing their personal space with strangers.

Will there be anything to do afterwards? A 24-hour cafe or something? I know I wouldn't want to go home right away. And lastly, I have a strange question. I'm flying from Indiana and I won't know anyone at the event. I've been a long-time lurker of this site and I'm curious if any of you guys are meeting up at the event? If so, is it alright if I come by to say hello?

Dog Running

I just finished watching the Armin Only dvd. I "imagine" that NYE should be similar to the track listing and atmosphere from the show on the dvd. I feel that this is a good thing, since the show from the dvd looked amazing. I just hope that Armin's 9 hour set isn't all vocal pop trance, as that would be really annoying. Is anyone going to try to get there early...how about a TA meet up at a local restaurant before the event?

Posted by element-y on Dec-21-2008 00:55:

can't wait for this event. Will be CRAZY. Hoping all the guests from ArminOnly and more will show up - like Jan(I think thats his name) on the piano for communication.

Sucks Shah wont be there though.

Ah ok.

What about lasers for the event? Since this is Armin only production, and in europe the laser laws arent as strict as they are here, will the lasers be at the show just not pointed at the crowd or will there be very few, weak lasers?

Shah is doing NYE rave in Vancouver this year.
Armin will probably play a lot of his tracks anyway, so i don't think it's a big loss.
Hopefully we'll see him at WMC in 2009.

NEEDZ LAZAS!

TAO usually has crap lights, and with the US tight on laser laws, wonder what the deal is

Just some advice...

If you are planning to go around 9 or 10, then there is a good chance you wont make it in untill after midnight. Just know that this is a huge event and there is no organization throughout the lines, so indeed there is a lot of line cutters.

I hope all goes well for you! Armin is going to tear the house down!

Really? Even though I'm using the separate VIP entrance?

Posted by epic007 on Dec-22-2008 19:24:

Oh my bad!

I didnt realize you had VIP. You should have no problems getting in. VIP separate entrance is usually pretty swift!

Have a great time!

As for myself, this will be the first in four years that I decided to stay home for NYE. No worries though, plenty more talent coming to LA in 2009!

Posted by Banora on Dec-23-2008 00:11:

That's honestly the only reason I bought VIP was for the swift entrance. I'm spending about ten hours the previous night in the airport because the airport close to where I am was almost $300 extra to fly out of. Then I get in at 8am and can't check in until 3pm, so I will really need a nap!

I hope you have a good night in! I'm sure there will be tons of pictures for you to see!

Does anyone know of any cheaper lots to park at near the Sports Arena? The official parking lot is always a rip, but I've also heard some surrounding lots cost even more. I don't mind a 10 minute walk or something as long as the route is decently safe. Anyone got any tips?

Posted by SFtrance on Dec-23-2008 04:53:

Banora this may seem out of the ordinary but if you are desperate for sleep once you get in just let me know. I'll be at a friends apartment nearby

Posted by Banora on Dec-23-2008 06:52:

Oh I wouldn't want to impose, SFTRance...besides, I plan on using that time to explore L.A. as I will have little time to do so on the following day, then I leave to Denmark on the 2nd.

However, I wouldn't say no to saying hello during the event or before/after. You said something about going to the beach?

There is a parking lot at USC just north of the Sports Arena on Figueroa. It cost $20 for EDC back in June. Car had to be out by 7AM.

Weather allowing the tradition is to hit up Venice Beach for an hour or two. We have a couple drinks, grab some food, watch the characters, and discuss the year. If all goes to plan I extend the invitation; regardless, you should definitely check out Venice Beach when you get some time.

Posted by AmericnWldChild on Dec-23-2008 23:39:

wow I think its starting to sound like a Notorious B.I.G. track...

"spend about a week on venice beach
sippin crisco with some freaks from frisco"
