exactly, i heard epic stories from people about guv and i saw last years line-up so i figured wat the hell let me book canada day and experience the guv for the first time, now i honestly think i dont even gonna go to the guv that night prob just another party if something else pops up if not go sight seeing or something lol

I'm not whining as much as it seems... but as an out-of-towner who has been betting on this party for quite some time now, it's pretty disappointing. I don't even hate Benassi and Deadmau5. I've seen Benassi tear the roof off places, and I know Deadmau5 has his sound and crowd. My problem is the rest of (or lack of) a lineup. I'm not talking about the locals, because I know they'll rock it as usual. I'm talking about the lack of more headliners. I am keeping slim hope alive for a surprise or two around the corner. I'm sorry, but I just don't consider one guy from MSTRKRFT a headliner for a party like this. Well, maybe he's a headliner, but not compared to Dubfire, Hawtin, Lawler, who were all in guv last year. I guess I'm most sore about there not being any trance in KH. Kool Haus was great last year with Ferry, Menno, and Cosmic Gate. It was busy, too, and the main room was rammed as well.... and all the other rooms were bumpin. So, I guess I just don't see why they messed with a good thing. I'm not trying to be a know-it-all because I don't pretend to admit to kowing how all the bookings work and who was available.

And, with all that said, I'll most likely be in attendance. And if I am, I will have fun, because that's what its all about

On a sidenote, do you guys think Deadmau5 will fill KH?? That's a big space, and would be interesting to hear his music in front of that kind of crowd.....

Also, as I ramble on... Is there any word about the rest of town that weekend?? I know about the boats, and will be on Demi + Omid, and I know there'll be some beach stuff and so on.. but what about Footwork (other than Pirupa), MoS, VOLA (PLEASE), and so on. This is a really big trip for myself and a friend, and I'm wondering what all will be in store for us if we decide to come.

I'm in still in awe how much of a tragedy it is to some people, wow

last years Canada Day party goes down in my books as one of the most awesome ones, Labor of Love 06 and 07 do as well; I have tons of amazing memories from those events, but guys, there will be other parties, other long weekends and other clubs

this means it's time to start making alternative party plans, that's all

I'm sad that there is NO trance present, but whatevs!

Why does it bother you so much that people are being vocal about their disappointment in the line-up this year?

People are disappointed because Guv has shifted their focus to a different type of music, effectively alienating a crowd who has gone to Guv's all-access Canada Day event for years.

On another note, sure it will be packed and Guv will make a ton of money, but why should we care about that? Guv has clearly taken the easy way out to make as much money as possible. This is likely a last ditch effort to fill their coffers before they get shut down in the not so distant future for the waterfront development project.

The line-up and concept of this party is void of creativity, is watered down, and geared towards the lowest common denominator type of clubber. Sure Guv will make tons of money, but good for them.

The Guv these days is a shadow of its former self, and is basically a mainstream club that does the rare forward-thinking, interesting event.

it's not even disappointment, it's outright tragedy posts, and I'm not the only one so pls don't single me out

as I clearly stated - it's just time to make alternative plans, and move on, it's just a party!

you really think pages and pages of complains will resolve anything? you yourself pointed out that

end of story.

Kristina's point is that it's hardly the fucking tragedy some people are making it out to be... And she's right, the level of drama over a DJ lineup in this thread really does make us all out to be retards lol

lol "shifted their focus", isn't Lawler the weekend before?

Deadmau5 is a pretty big legitimate headliner... This party will be massive! Hopefully your tears are dry by then!

Jon Jon, I am on that boat cruise and saw your name on there.

You don't play stuff like deadhouse do you?

I'm singling you out because of:

and because you are taking an antagonistic stance.

I personally don't give a fuck, lol. I've been to Guv enough times to not really care. Sure it would be nice to have music that I would like to hear at Guv on Canada Day, but if not, I don't really care.

Yes, but I am talking about All Access events. If you take a look at the line-ups of All Access events in the last couple of years compared to say the early to mid 2000s, you'll see that their focus has shifted slowly but surely to cheese.

As I said, I'm sure the party will have lots of people and I'm sure I could have fun if I was with the right people, but it doesn't change the fact that will be as mainstream and cheesy as it gets.

Posted by Intangible on May-27-2010 01:29:

I can get over the fact that its not Lawler, having him here 2 weeks before makes up for it (sort of-ish) Its the fact the party has gone in a completely different direction.
It went from favourite party of the year to - would not touch it with a 10 foot pole.

I give full credit to guv for booking deadmau5 - the party will be packed.

But I still feel that I am entitled to be upset... and that being said this summer will still be 10 times more amazing than any other summer

Posted by ChemEnhanced on May-27-2010 01:35:

lawler is just as cheesy as anyone playing Canada Day....sure he may be swiss while the others are cheddar...but he is still cheese.

someone could argue that the market has changed quite a bit since the mid-2000's...

besides, I like the commercial sides of dance music as well as the underground... I don't think one is BETTER than the other!

I think it would be hard to make an argument against that actually.

lol

There's really nothing for me to say (but of course i will) after highroller tho, he literally has the exact same opinion as I do, I don't think i could have said it better.

Lets face it, Guvernment doesn't make the same bucks off us underground minded folk that it used too.

And it IS a business, never has anyone doubted it....like I said on FB, i don't BLAME them, if I was charles and co. i'd do the exact same thing...thats a big building to fill, and the market has DEF changed slightly in the last 3 years at least.

My opinion is what it is because i'm getting old, and i SEVERELY miss the way things USED to be. Anyone that knows me knows i'm a sucker for nostalgia...

That doesnt mean they (guv) aren't alienating people tho, they are.....our bucks just dont taste the same as they tasted a few years ago.

Circa had the same mentality however, and look where it got them. They were booking the mainstream OF the mainstream....I think in time this will hurt guv, rather than help it short term, but that remains to be seen, and I dont have a business OR marketing degree to back up my opinion

The mainstream vs underground debate will never be solved one way or the other.....there's two sides to the coin.

Its just interesting to me to see who has what opinion and WHY they have said opinion.

At the end of the day, at least we're all engaged and talking.

And I'm sure the higher ups, are ALWAYS listening.

What a garbage of a lineup this year, I guess I will save myself for Liebing @ Circus
