You could say that. But it's my personal belief that it shouldn't change. I don't see what's so hard to understand?

Good for you. Doesn't bother me.

Yeah, but does it bother you that you're stupid?

That still doesn't answer his question at all.

Does it bother you that you make poor assumptions?

I am for same sex marriage, but I do think that what happened with how prop 8 was reversed is a little disturbing. I don't yet understand why a judge can overturn an issue that was clearly voted on by a majority. I'm sure there's more to it than I'm aware of though.

It does. Because all I have been doing is stating my personal belief. I've never said or asserted anything beyond it.

It doesn't matter if something is voted for by a majority if it is unconstitutional or unjust.

Because beliefs don't usually come from nothing... but it's okay, I don't think this discussion can be developed any further

No, it doesn't. He asked you why you believe marriage has to be between a man and a woman and you keep replying because it has to. That isn't a response, that's just a circle.

Arguing with bigots rarely does.

Right. Because I've already answered it earlier. If you reaaaaally want me to dig deeper, it's because that's the way I view marriage, because that's the way I feel it ought to be. Why is that so difficult to understand without me saying it?

Posted by idoru on Aug-08-2010 21:46:

Why are you guys wasting your time with him?

Why do you believe that though? Where/how did you learn it? What within your worldview contributed to your beliefs?

If you can't answer those questions pretty easily, then I was right - you haven't/don't critically think about your beliefs values and therefore, are a drone.

Because I'm an optimist who believes that at heart everyone is much kinder and smarter than they appear to be and that with just the right amount of logic they can see the error of their ways.

Yeah, I don't know why I believe that

I think the fact that I've ALREADY stated that I don't feel particularly happy about my beliefs, that I recognize that it is, on some level, harsh to believe in what I believe indicates some critical thought, no?

Posted by Silky Johnson on Aug-08-2010 21:50:

No, it doesn't. Lol. You seriously cannot answer those questions???? Wow.

Alright, I'm only going to say this. If you don't feel that your beliefs make you "happy", then why hold onto them?

Posted by Silky Johnson on Aug-08-2010 21:52:

Because he can't explain why he does in the first place.

You know you are allowed to change your beliefs, right?

Posted by Silky Johnson on Aug-08-2010 21:53:

Give him time, he might figure it out.

So I've been brought up with the idea that, one day, I'm going to marry a woman with whom I'm going to share the rest of my life....

I mean, what MORE do you need to know?

Yes.

That's it? You really believe something so strongly based on so little information? Don't you see how that makes you a moron?
