I have to ask those who would vote NDP and to a lessor extent Liberals a serious question.

Where do you think money comes from?

How do you think a nation's wealth is created?

Are public sector jobs ultimately good for the economy or bad?

Answer these seriously.

really? So you really think that we should spend 10 times more on our miltary to deal with even basic defence?

Honestly those who bitch about miltary spending should understand that we have it easy and get a free ride off of NATO, namely the US.

Posted by Shaya007 on Apr-27-2011 23:26:

war..what is it good for?
been there..seen it..never want to experience anything like it EVER again in my life time.

Personally I'd rather see all the military spending to be spent where it matters most; Hospitals, Doctors, healthcare, education, etc..

Conservatives didn't deliver on any of it IMO,

And Jay I think somehow U.S of A will always be there to come to the neighbor's rescue no matter who's in power.

youd like to think so but the world isnt so merry when it isnt in writing. Thats why we have alliances, to ensure this.

Give me the money that has been spent in war and I will clothe every man, woman, and child in an attire of which kings and queens will be proud. I will build a schoolhouse in every valley over the whole earth. I will crown every hillside with a place of worship consecrated to peace. ~Charles Sumner http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Sumner

and the only alliance we need is the U.S of A and we'll have it for many years to come regardless of who is running this country.

They need Canada and its massive untapped resources, so as long as we got what they need, they'll be around to protect us

my 3 cents

Canada does has a nice amount of resources. We just sit in a bad spot... the south of us is the US, the west of us is China and the North we got Russia. Also don't forget the US tried to invade Canada a few centuries ago and they will try again. Those countries wont invade us for metals, but they will invade us for our fresh water. We could make water, but we need a shit load hydrogen and fire.

Canada pretty much a sitting duck. I would rather have Canada prepared for a conflict when it comes to us, then us being overrun by 1 of those 3 or all 3 of them at the same time.

I was going to write "until they find it a necessity to attack and make us another Star on their flag."

but then I realized man they're so busy in 3402843 other conflicts that I don't think our turn will come anytime soon..lol

I guess we could be thankful for that

Why do you have to worry about something that "may" happen years from now? How about we try to fix the problems affecting the canadians today?

The US are our friends. Its China that scares the shit out of me.

As for the notion about money. If only we could use that money for those things. But the fact is that there are evil people in the world and we have to be ready to deal with them. If only we didnt have to fund the police force to protect us from bad guys. Same thing. (although the cops these days are pretty corrupt themselves)

Just imagine if Canada ended up changing their views on the military and made it mandatory to serve for 2 years. Many countries do that already; Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Israel, Iran and countless others. True the US doesn't either.

That there are, and a large number of them are Canadian and American.

Wrong imo. Firstly because war between fully developed nations is pretty much incomprehensible as there would be no viable justification for it. A few hundred years ago you could say "they have water, we're going to invade and take it." but times have changed obviously.

Secondly is they just plain don't need to. With the commercialization and privatization of resources all that needs to be done is by the companies in charge of them and pay lobbyists to get rules relaxed on raping the hell out of them. Why spend $5 billion on a messy war to capture resources when you can spend a fraction of that and steal the resources legally? BTW many American and international organisations already own lakes up north and are spending large sums on lobbying for freedom to export the water as they please. They also own the vast majority of the oil sands as well. So you're saying the States would invade us to capture land that they already own?

The fact so many US companies operate here, trade ties are so close, longest unprotected border, NAFTA (etc etc the list goes on) means that the States already has and will always have a huge vested interest in protecting Canada regardless of NATO. I totally agree China and Russia are much bigger threats for any hostility but for the reasons above I can guarantee you the States wouldn't let either of those countries perform aggressive takeovers of our resources (or even friendly for that matter).

Are bad guys born or made though? Perhaps with more social programs and community support, you wouldn't see people turning to lives of crime and poor decision making. Unless they're schizophrenic. Lolololol.

No but seriously though.
