Whenever I do an incline fly/shoulder fly type motion, I have to really be careful as I'm extending because my left shoulder joint will pop and just let go, and my arm will drop with the weight in hand (I got a nice thigh bruise from a falling dumbell once). It doesn't actually dislocate, it just sort of pops out of position. It doesn't hurt when this happens unless I'm using a lot of weight, but I can still feel it in the joint. Even now, just sitting in my chair, if I sit up straight and swing my arms upward (i.e. doing the Y in the YMCA), my left shoulder joint will seemingly pop in and out of the motion, whereas my right shoulder joint just moves smoothly.

I have no idea why this is. I've never had a shoulder injury, and it's been like this for as long as I've been going to the gym. And it's really getting bothersome because it limits my ability to lift weights (what my right arm could easily lift, potentially, would cause my left arm to give), and I'm afraid I will eventually injure myself. Does anyone have any fucking idea what could be causing this?

some people just tend to have joints kind of give up on them. had a friend who's shoulder got dislocated all the time and had to be popped back in but that was during childhood. when she grew up she was fine...given you are already an adult you should have that looked at soon because you could do damage to your joints tendons and whatever else is in your arm and you'll ruin your chances at being healthy in the future.

switched up my workouts which is doing me some good. rather than the five days a week crap i've been doing for the past couple years i think i'm finally comforable hitting up the gym four times a week but i complement with lots of walking...i LOVE the summer, i'm exercising but not realizing it. win!

I get that too, it really fucks me off. Had it ever since I was a kid. That said, I have no idea what the hell it's actually caused by. A loose joint, or something?

Was this pic taken before, or after you freaked out on weed and called an ambulance?

Must renew my gym pass. So lazy though, and bummed that because of my knee I can't run anymore.

Posted by chimera66 on Jun-10-2008 12:18:

what is wrong with your knee? if you can't run think about swimming.

I think all those workouts leading up to that fateful day helped my heart out in order to continue pumping even though I felt like it was gonna literally explode. I always thought if I was a fatass if that would happen because fatasses are more prone to heart attacks and they wouldnt survive 10 hits of weed in a matter of 2 minutes = true story for all those unbelievers still.

Meh, I need to start working out properly again.. in the last 2 or 3 monhts I went probably only twice to the gym. So I went yesterday again, and now I'm 4 kgs heavier than last December, and can only do the 1st set of reps on the weights I was used to. Guess that's not muscular mass then. :\

why the fuck are u running anyway? Ever heard of elipticals, bikes, stairmasters? Much better and less damaging than running. You get even better results from hitting the freeweights and doing core exercises.

Years of downhill skiing and mountain biking has fucked the joint I guess. I realize there are alternatives, and obviously I will modify my workout, I just really enjoyed running.

unfortunate but in all honesty running really isn't very good for you so maybe you'll say enjoy roller blading swimming or riding a bike on flat ground. never fun to give up something because your body says no though.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Jun-10-2008 19:03:

Yeah I'd really like to get a bike. I do rollerblade already.

Biking is going to be your best bet with your knee being weakened when your getting back into it. I don't like riding around town on a bike as its too hot and u have to watch for the other idiots who will run u down. Get that gym membership back up and get started!

Posted by Silky Johnson on Jun-10-2008 19:23:

Lol yeah I truly am a fool for not renewing it...it's only 25 bucks for 4 months for me.

Damn thats cheaper than my $10.65/month which I thought was unbeatable, lol.

Hows your knowledge on Bike brands?? I was thinking of getting one of the hybrid mountain/street bikes or I'll just get the mountain bike. I want a decently built one thats worth paying for/owning if u know what I mean. No sorry ass Sports Authority China made shit.

I've been reading up on it for a few months, but I'm more of a roadie since I bike to crosstrain from running. I tell you this much, it's an expensive hobby but I guess if your needs are minimal you shouldn't have a problem from buying from a LBS.

Hybrid = mtb frame, fork, and components with different tires. Tires are thinner and have less teeth in them...beach cruiser wheels base with teeth near the rim area.

I think a bike is a great investment and it really depends on your preferences. I know for myself, I'll buy something and see something better and want that so I went straight from an all around mtb to a pretty high upgraded roadie.

Reputable brands are - specialized, cannondale, trek, schwinn. You can find some deals on some nice MTB at bikesdirect.com. Be warned though, these are box bikes which means you'll have to assemble them together. Some of the bikes on BD.com are pretty component wise. The price you'll pay for one assembled at a LBS with those components usually surpass BD's pricing, you'll just need to find a LBS to assemble for you which will probably cost you some but still come out better if you went that method over buying direct from a LBS.

Specific questions just ask and I'll try my best to answer...
