Can someone please proof read this?! Remember, I am a total n00b and have only been studying Spanish for 4 months... so it may be really simple/bad. I just need what is there to be corrected in terms of grammar etc.

Thanks!

Voy a nadar y voy a sacar fotos. Vamos a escuchar msica y vamos a bailar. Mi madre voy a comprar una tarjeta. Mi novio voy a comprar los pantalones cortos.

___________

I REALLY appreciate the help!

EDIT:

Just to make sure I am doing this right, the first paragraph is supposed to be past imperfect. The next is past tense, the next is present and the last one is future "I am going to".

Thanks in advance for the help!

Is it that bad you can't even understand it!? WTF? I didn't think I sucked that bad.

One time, when I was a child, for vacation I went to Florida. I went with my mother and my grandparents. Before, I used to walk on the beach. I used to play with other children. I used to like to swim in the pool and I used to like to drink ice cream. Florida was hot and nice. The beach was dirty. The hotel was large.

El verano pasado, fui a Ontario. Fui con mi novio. Visitamos nuestros padres y nuestros amigos.

This past summer, I went to Ontario. I went with my boyfriend. We visited out parents and our friends. We went to the beach and ate a lot of food. We went camping with our friends. We swam at the beach and saw wolves. I took a lot of photos. We visited for 2 weeks and returned home.

Finalmente, duermo.

Every day I wake up early. I brush my teeth after I eat and later I shower. Much later, I go to the university and study for my classes. In the evening, a return home and eat food with my boyfriend. I study Spanish and surf the Internet. Finally, I sleep.

Voy a nadar y voy a sacar fotos. Vamos a escuchar msica y vamos a bailar. Mi madre voy a comprar una tarjeta. Mi novio voy a comprar los pantalones cortos.

Next year, for vacation, I am going to go to Cuba. I am going to swim and I am going to take photos. I am going to go with my boyfriend. We are going to be in Cuba for a week. We are going to listen to music and we are going to dance. I am going to by my mother a card. I am going to buy my boyfriend shorts.

You don't suck, and I actually got what you meant, but your expressions are still very "Anglophone", which is only natural given your background.

How much have you been reading in Spanish? Try to learn not the words, but how the expressions are used in general. For example, "When I was 5 years old" is, indeed, "Cuando yo tenia 5 años" - but this only works for numbers. If you want to say "When I was a small kid", though the construction is the same in English, you have to say "Cuando yo era pequeña/una niñ" or something of that sort.

ps.: You're using the imperfect too often. In the beginning, stick to the perfect past unless (1) you see them using the imperfect past in key expressions, such as the one I mentioned or (2) when you can use the progressive in English.

The first paragraph is supposed to be all in past imperfect (according to the assignment). She is checking to see if we understand how to conjugate properly. However, my structure/grammar etc. still needs to be good too.

Other than the cuando yo tenia 5 año part, is there anything obvious that should be changed or adjusted?

I am getting rather frustrated with this class. The book is utter shite, and the prof is Argentinian and has her own dialect which further confuses/complicates things since we were originally learning Spain Spanish. Not to mention that we are going through it all super fast. Maybe once I take it during a normal semester it wont be so bad.

i kept most of your sentence structures the same,
but even your english sentences don't flow quite that well....

i recommend wordreferences.com

you can use conjugador for presente, imperfecto, pretrito, etctera

also, their forum is the best!
so many linguists. they have saved me a couple of times

also, RAE.ES bookmark that.
if it's not in la RAE, it's not a word.

una ms para cerrar la jornada

Si de m te acuerdas

LOL! I originally wrote comer el helado, and my prof corrected me and said that it is to drink ice cream in Spanish.

Really?! "Comer o sorvete" sounds absurd in Portuguese, we just say "tomar o sorvete"... "beber o sorvete" sounds equally bizarre, though

Posted by daydreamer on Aug-10-2010 03:23:

well last time my friend asked me when i woke up.

vas a tomar el desayuno?

obviously you don't drink breakfast, but
more in the sense of having breakfast. but she has her way of expressing herself, superior to mine, blah blah blah.

could your teacher mean it in this context?

but if you are asking specifically about eating or drinking ice cream...?
because i'm an american i will say eat, because that's the way i know it in english, and my mind translates it to spanish that way.

but if you are not chewing, is it eating. you are licking it, it melts in your mouth and you swallow.

whatever, go with what your teacher says, she is the one grading you after all, not i.

chau

Posted by RandomGirl on Aug-10-2010 03:38:

I asked her again today and she said that in Spanish, it is beber for el helado. She says she knows it's strange, but that the Spanish drink their ice cream rather than eat it. LOL!

Her first language is Spanish (Argentinian), so I am going to take a bet that she is right.
