I don't get how people can get so emotionally invested in Facebook. Unless it is someone I know in real life then they are just little internet gnomes.

I ditched FB - again. This time I deleted everything - info, pics, friends - just to make sure I stay off. Life is better without that distraction.

Ive been thinking about deleting it as well. It has nothing to do with it being a distraction it has to do with the fact i dont really care for people knowing much about me. I keep my info to the bare minimum as is but still I dont want people even knowing I am on a computer when I am.

Plus facebook has gotten shit as I have gotten older. facebook used to be awesome because girls used to post slutty club photos and bikini pics. not anymore. All I see is baby pics and disinformed articles on political issues. Facebook is a bit of a propaganda machine and at this point in my life when I have realized 90% of what is reported to us through media and now "wanna be journalist blogs" have 0 fact behind them, I could give a fuck what some "journalist" writes from his mom's bedroom.

Fuck it. I'd rather see people when I see people and keep it to small talk.


What keeps me there is the attention I receive from my funny status updates. I'm a sucker for making people laugh and facebook allows me to reach an audience I usually don't get to be a fool in front of.

I also don't care for anyone knowing what I'm doing. Add that to the fact that with the job I want, I REALLY don't want people having an "easy way" to access my information. It's definitely cached on the Internet, especially with the fact that my DJ alias is plastered all over Google searches, but that's just something I'll have to deal with. I'll just have to spin (lol pun) the fact that I was a DJ and played at parties where illicit substances might have been consumed, in a positive manner. Hell even being a member and posting on this forum could be seen as "dangerous". Don't ask me how I plan to do that I haven't gotten that far yet

I usually only posted to feed my cathartic self. It helped me just posting links to music I liked and shit because it sort of self-validated myself and allowed me to publish my feelings. I think of Facebook as one of those written diaries people used to keep; except you know, it's made public and is cached on the Internet. Now though, I don't really need that, because honestly not one person on there really gave a shit, and I don't blame them. They all have their own shit going on in their lives. It was only MYSELF I was helping. I think turning to a journal is a good idea for me at this point haha.

I have emails for the friends I made overseas, and I think that's for the better. I mean when my friend and I meet up in Chicago (he was my flatmate in England), we're going to have so much to talk about and shenanigans to pull because we haven't really caught up in a while. It's going to be a much more fulfilling experience because we didn't message each other every hour.

I think the fact you grew up, along with the friends on your Facebook, outlines why most are past that "slutty club photos and bikini pics" kinda stuff. They all now need a medium to validate the joy and happiness they are feeling with their baby pics, because they aren't in the young demographic anymore, you know? Instead of bookclub get-togethers and spin classes they post their political thoughts online, engage in heated debates and share how much they love/hate/cheat on their SO through online mediums.

On the flip-side of the coin, FB allows for instant communication with friends that might have moved away or moved on and is an invaluable tool in that respect. I just think the amount of time I've used FB for the plus-sides of it barely even comes close to the amount of times I've used it for cathartic and inane reasons.

Its also i realized i dont care what other people are doing with their lives. I just want ignorance in some respect. I dont want to know katy had a baby or this person is engaged to that one. Same when those moments happen to me. I dont want to brpadcast it. I'd rather just the ppl who matter know and everyone else finds out through the grape vine.

Thats why i like instagram. I go on. I see a pic of an old friend at a family bbq. I have no idea whats going on in his life or what his opinion is on Isis but i see a brief second in his life and im like cool looks like he's having a good time good ol mike.

My brother works in the travel industry and he fucked one of his customers, he then went to LA for a corporate training thing and they said "don't fuck your customers, its a bad idea, we do not approve of it, you'll get in trouble." He gets back and is telling me about it and then goes "but yea, I fucked her last night and this morning... she is coming back to stay for another 3 months in like 5 weeks, but I had to tell her to fuck off."

He then told about how he got fined for public urination in Mexico after visiting a whorehouse and how he got drunk with the operations girl at the LA office and basically tried to rape her in her sleep ("she was asleep, but i started kissing her and she was kissing back, so I got out her tits and put my hand down her pants too").




He just likely freely admitted this to myself and idoru a couple days ago at my place.

That's messed up. What's equally messed up is that you'd post such info about your own brother on a public forum. Get a fucking diary or something.

I more or less stopped using Facebook except for the messenger app on my phone. But I funneled all that time into forums, instagram, and tumblr. I still think that's better than Facebook though.

Meh, he posted all of that on Facebook anyways, except for the hotel girl part haha.

I should mention this is a Japanese company so it seems par for the course from everything I've heard. I mean the trip to Mexico was with the head of the US west coast division and paid for by them.

The fact remains that he's still your brother. And it's not the first time you talk shit about him on here. There definitely seems to be passive-aggressive sort of rivalry there. I just think it's in very poor taste to air your family's dirty laundry on a public forum for everyone to see.
