The last five posts on my FB wall make it seem like I am going nuts lol.

Posted by Joss Weatherby on Jun-13-2013 08:33:

Oh I am going crazy... Cause I am writing a programming language on top of another language that is... yea not designed to do what I want it to do, but I am making it do it.

Why? Cause a small subset of people (probably ~100 people) in the world want this functionality.

On the other hand it'll look good in my portfolio: "wrote virtual memory system and implemented a language with classes, references, and pointers in another language that was probably designed while drinking a lot of czech moonshine"

Fucking insurance company email...

"We are writing to advise that your next automatic payment has been scheduled."

NO FUCKING DATE LISTED ANYWHERE IN THE EMAIL.

Thanks.

Greek sounds kind of like Spanish.

They sound more superficially similar than Spanish and French, anyway, though probably not more so than Spanish and Italian.

As a matter of fact, you're totally right.

[Nerdspeak] Both Spanish and Greek went through similar processes that turned d's, for example, into th's (as in "this"), though it was a lot more thorough in Greek. Both languages have a similar 5-vowel sound system, whereas French has a lot more vowels (not to mention the nasal ones). The absence of a thrilled-r in most French speakers probably sets the language even more apart from its neighbouring sister languages. [/Nerdspeak]

My inner layman also reckons the way they sing when they speak (their intonation, so to speak), is very Mediterranean, and has a Italian/Spanish ring to it. I'd be hard-pressed to explain what it is about it that is similar but, given the proximity/common origin, this isn't really surprising.

i wish my work schedule was a bit more predictable. On monday I knew I was working 5 10s (mon-friday) by monday at lunch it became 60 hours (mon-sat) by end of day I was up to mon-sun with 10 hour days but an 8 on sunday.

Wednesday I get told I actually get friday-sunday off. wooo 40 hour week (im always on overtime) and a long weekend. that stayed until about 4pm today when i get told im actually working tomorrow and possibly sunday.... its impossible to make plans when you never know what days you dont have to work

Back to the high desert this weekend. Hopefully I don't have to buy a new transmission this time.

Excited to see how my endurance is at 3500' compared to ~sea level. Last time I was shocked at how much worse my endurance was when running.

This bloke I know asked a friend of mine out, and she decided to take me with her so he wouldn't think it was a date. We found out he's a birther, a right-wing nutter, and someone who believes in homoeopathy. In short, he's PKC's greatest enemy

Posted by Moongoose on Jun-14-2013 09:00:

I can relate to that. A girl i like just went off about "those terrible chemtrails poisoning our skies, lets stop them!"

In the span on a few short words she suddenly became significantly less attractive. I'm surrounded by goddamn hippies.

Posted by Lira on Jun-14-2013 09:18:

Oi, don't offend us hippies! Real hippies are too laid-back to even care about conspiracies

Seriously though, I just took a deep breath, looked at my friend, and decided to move on with the convo because it was getting a bit too much for me. You know, my male acquaintances who add my female friends at random are the oddest people I know... and that makes me wonder: Is it really common to add people you don't know on Facebook?

I lost count of how many times I've had a female friend me if I know someone because the nutter added her and she's never seen him. Like, ever.

Posted by Moongoose on Jun-14-2013 09:39:

People add other people all the time, facebook friends are kind of like pokemon, got to catch them all. I dont get it myself, i dont even add all the people i know to my friends list let alone adding random people i never interacted with before.

Well i guess all hippies arent bad all of the time, just most of them most of the time

It's an odd situation to find yourself in so frequently, trust me. I wonder if it's really this common though

I do have to admit this is true

Place really must have gone to the dogs if they elected the deep south mexican guy to moderate the COR.
Surprised he hasn't flooded the place with cheap labour, half naked jap girls and overly intellectual diatribes about linguistics.

...and that's probably enough from me for my aberrant visit to this foetid hole of electronic music genres no one listens to any more.

Posted by PivotTechno on Jun-14-2013 12:41:

A rather prominent Toronto DJ has been letting a select handful of us root through his storage locker, which probably stores a few thousand records, spanning some 30 years of collecting. Walked out of last night's dig with about 50 pieces, after having worked my way through about half the crates. At about a buck a record, I'm feeling that a trip to check the other half is most certainly in order.

No chance. We also require a new mix.

Done
I looked at the DJ forum and it is a seething morass of cheese trance, US douche-house and other fluffy stuff as far back as the eye could see. Its like PKC pee'd a rainbow all over it, probably Stu's fault for not house training the natives.

So, I've ruined that.

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Jun-15-2013 09:19:

pffft. trance might be the cheesy part of edm, but my trance faves are not the cheesy part of trance!
