Oh for god's sake, Lira. Please stop trolling me by always taking the opposite opinion, no matter how stupid and ridiculous it is. It's getting childish, really.

Tim Roth playing the role of a socially inept genius that looks baked through the entire series while having everyone kiss his ass?

Yeah!

In all seriousness though, Lie To Me and House MD are too much alike. They're both about an antisocial genius - played by an Englishman - who slag their sidekicks all the time and use their awesome scientific skills to solve puzzles (which can be a crime or a disease) despite the fact that everybody lies their arses off. I just tend to think the drama is better in Lie To me, and the science bit is also better depicted.

However, I'd be more than prepared to say it's a bit of a rip-off though. The similarities are just too numerous to mention

And, I don't usually swear but... fuck! I'm both excited and terrified about the series of lectures I'm going to give starting tomorrow night. Some of my most awesome former professors/colleagues have signed up for the course

God, sometimes I really hate living in this hell hole. Decided to compare the prices of iPods here and in the US, just to check a little something...

iPod Nano 16 GB (US): U$ 149.00
iPod Nano 16 GB (BR): U$ 355.00 (they even point out we pay U$ 146 in taxes alone).

Wow.

AU$163.00 here. So, about US$170.00

Unless I'm looking at the wrong thing.

Yup, that's precisely it. If you want to double check, here's the very same page in the Brazilian Apple Store and Google's conversion rate thingy.

It's not just iPods. Think of any electronic device. Shirts. Manufactured goods, including cars. Everything is outrageously more expensive here, even though our GDP per capita is not even close to that of developed nations.

Unfortunately, it applies to nearly everything. And my iPod is broken.

A most excellent chance then for you to throw it away, break up with apple, throw away your old phone as well and pick up some android device (an old Galaxy S will do just fine) to replace both so that marie will stop bugging you about when exactly are you going to start using whatsapp

I can't throw it away just yet! I need a player that supports audiobook chapters

Is there a phone that supports m4b files?

Posted by Moongoose on Apr-30-2012 16:31:

Theres an app for that. Several actually

Here are just a few:

Smart AudioBook Player (free)

MortPlayer (free)

Akimbo (2€)

Cant remember where you buy your books from, if its from audible there also this

Audible player

Cant recommend anyone of these from personal experience since i dont listen to audiobooks on my phone, only music and podcasts and i use Zplayer for that.

Resourceful as ever, thanks

I'm going to do some research and try to save my old loyal iPod (the good thing about living in a developing country with abusive prices is that such establishments abound ). If it's doomed to a life of inactivity and silence, then I may get a new phone (I just need to find out what the smallest affordable phone I can afford is... I don't want to jog pulling my trousers up every other step ).

Did I say phones are also really pricey around here?

Posted by Moongoose on Apr-30-2012 20:28:

Well saving old tech is always a good first step, i viciously attack every broken piece of hardware thats lying around the house take it apart and try to bring it back to life. If it refuses to come back to the world of the living...well no harm done, it was broken in the first place, if it does and i still have use for it, good and if it doesnt i can still sell it off for some money, even better!

And ive taken into consideration the pricy phones, thats why i recommended an old Galaxy S i9000. Its a couple of years old now which is almost ancient in the mobile phone world, and since the Galasxy S3 is about to be introduced this week the prices should be dropping even more, but its still a damn good phone and one of of the best selling one in recent years. If you can find one at a store at a discount it would be great, but buying one used shoudnt be a problem either (Marie uses the same phone). Its not too big or too heavy (122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9 mm, 119g) so it shoudnt pose that big of a problem to take it jogging with you (ive used a galaxy note for a few days as a loner and went jogging with that without a problem and thats MUCH bigger than the galaxy s ). It comes with 8Gb of space, but has an expandable memory slot, so stick a 32gb memory card in there and youll be able to log half a library worth of audio books around with you
