I can't vouch for that (it sounds horrible) but at least with America getting on the EDM bandwagon (20 years late) the "bad" music is at least fun...

Not "fun" if you were into (even cheesy) electronic music 20 years ago

Ah fuck, I'm so old

Cheesy EDM in the 90s was the shit! Not its mostly just shit i notice...maybe its just that im getting older.

Suspiciously convenient, if you ask me!

America has a bizarre relationship with electronic music. It sounds electronic music only makes it to the top 40 if there's someone rapping on top of it (which obviously includes vanilla hip hop) or if it's bass-driven breakbeat (mind you, that's not dubstep).

And, of course, depending on your concept of what electronic dance music is, and what can be danced to, having a cute singer say inanities for around three minutes is also another way to steal the top spot in the charts. But that's about it.

Has d'n'b ever been considered mainstream in the US? This track was huge in Brazil, but I don't recall reading about it anywhere:

Posted by Vector A on Jun-29-2012 17:46:

Generally dance music will have a chance in our charts only it involves rapping or is made by a pop star who's already well-known, e.g. Madonna with "Ray Of Light."

"Breathe" is a bit of an anomaly for American charts, IMO.

Posted by Lira on Jun-29-2012 18:45:

How about Skrillex? Is he as popular as he seems on the internet?

Posted by Vector A on Jun-29-2012 18:49:

I dunno, he is kind of popular, but I'm not sure if he's done much on the charts here.

Posted by Joss Weatherby on Jun-29-2012 18:49:

Seriously? I've noticed far more electro house inspired tracks on the radio lately than normal pop songs, and even normal pop music is taking a more straight 4/4 influence.

Also brostep is extremely popular, mainstream wise...

I just listened to (well skimmed through) the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 and at least half of the top 10 could easily be considered inspired by EDM... Shitty EDM none the less, but EDM. 4/4 beats, off beat bass, breakdowns, trancey synth melodies, effects, pads, etc.

There was no rapping, most of them are artists who have always made this sort of style of music, etc.

Oh, there's certainly influence. But most of the stuff that actually makes it up there is from pop stars adopting EDM elements, rather than EDM people breaking into pop.

I don't know, Carly Rae Jepsen, Nicki Minaj, and Ellie Goulding only really broke out into popularity with their EDM style tracks.

Also out of the top 10 that are not EDM a number of them have extremely popular remixes. Gotye's Somebody that I Used to Know I have only heard remixes of played on the radio here.

Finished my M2A2 aiming circle... But I can't get it to work haha... also FM 6-50 sucks at explaining it.

My uncle's 50th birthday bash is next weekend. He's a huge lottery nut and always talks about what he would do if he won big, so I decided to get him a couple of these:

I will record it and hope to get a reaction similar to this:

Or this:

He's a big guy, so hopefully he doesn't have a heart attack instead.

Seems pretty mean to me, but I don't know what your relationship is like with him.

Yea... my sis said the same thing.

He's a light-hearted guy, though, so I expect him to be a good sport about it. Plus I'm going to get him a bottle of something good, so I'm sure that'll help ease the pain afterward.

The fake pregnancy test would totally get me if someone were to pull that off on me

LOL

Posted by Intellekshual on Jul-01-2012 00:05:

Yeah I think that's a pretty shit thing to do, I don't care how "light-hearted" he is.
Stick with a nice bottle of alcohol and sports tickets, a comedy show ticket or something.

We do this type of shit to each other all of the time. He'll probably know it's fake the moment he scratches it, but a split second reaction beforehand would be priceless.

Sports tickets? Comedy show? Uh, yea, you don't know my Polish uncle lol

A bottle of good vodka on the other hand, he'll appreciate that.

It was just an idea, you obviously know him better than I do. But do something that'll make him happy on his birthday, rather than something that will amuse you instead.

There you go, I finally got around to digging up my piratical, brain melting, 2012 new years eve mix and ripping it down to MP3.
(It was cunningly hiding on a backup drive)

Listening to it now... god damn
