Furthermore, I am out of town starting tmrw morning till the 1st, so I figure its better to have two checks in there and deal with that problem then pass the rent date with a check that won't get deposited.

LOL, it's almost the other way around here. Cheques take up to 3 days to clear, whereas inter-bank transfers rarely take longer than 24 hours, often way less. Transfers to another account with the same bank are instant.

My bank credits my account on deposit for checks as soon as they are deposited. It is nice. Of course if they don't clear then you are fucked, but still nice.

I only directly deposit things onto your mother.

I write them for my mother's rent. Although I suppose I could switch to direct deposit - not sure why I haven't bothered to change it. I kinda like writing cheques.

Our rent gets automatically debited from our bank account every Monday night. Same with the last rental place, and all the ones before that. I'm pretty sure if I asked them if I could pay by cheque, they'd tell me to fuck off

Wait, you pay weekly? Australia is strange.

And, yeah, I quite enjoy writing them. Something fun about it. Until the funds disappear from my account

Posted by Silky Johnson on Jun-28-2013 04:54:

The last place I rented I just wrote post dated cheques for the whole year. So fuck YOU Stu. Fuck YOU.

I have no idea what my signature would look like if I wasn't writing checks.

Yeah, all rentals are paid weekly here. Business rentals are monthly though, I think.

Ha, that's actually what I did, too.

Why is everything scarier in Australia!?

How is weekly rent scary?

Posted by Joss Weatherby on Jun-28-2013 06:03:

Wow you never realize how much you really know about something till you have to explain to someone else how something works/how to do it...

Instead of panicking just once a month, it comes every 7 days to haunt you on your sleep, how is that NOT scary?!

I paid a year up front to avoid Laowai prices. It hurt a bit at first, but no bills to worry about make thunderdome a little more pleasant nosferatnou.

This sounds even better!

See? That's how it's supposed to be! One dreadful day that drives you insane with high angst levels just once a year. Like your birthday

Your rent for a year in China is probably like 4 months rent for me.

I wouldn't be so sure. Shenzhen is like China's Hong Kong! And Hong Kong is just a bit more populated than Seattle, so I figure rent prices are also a bit more expensive. That's what makes these people insane and funny looking:

(Really, I don't know what amuses me the most in this picture: The girl with the crooked lips or the guy behind her )

I actually called our real estate agents and asked if we could do that, maybe 4 years ago? They straight up said no, without even asking the owners Massive dickheads around here, I swear.

Posted by Joss Weatherby on Jun-28-2013 06:29:

Median is about 100$ below what I pay per month (though it can be significantly less it looks like).

Three bedrooms are fucking cheap! Shit a three bedroom where I live would be like 2000$+ a month easily.

I stand corrected. Hong Kong is just like an ordinary big city then. But with a lot more people.

Posted by Joss Weatherby on Jun-28-2013 08:50:

Wow just heard the biggest bitch outside haha. Some chick talking to a guy and saying "don't touch me" and he goes "I wasnt" and then she says "oh you gonna cry about it? Oh you are!" lol
