So after almost 3 years of having people using my radio system someone finally developed some third party content for it (without any good API documentation haha, not that there really even is an API for third party devs)... and its better than the stuff in my release (even includes additional features not in the original product).

Anyway, half jealous of how much effort they put in and how much better it looks, and half proud that people think my stuff is worth it to have them invest their own time in to making stuff for it.

What? A patch cable would allow him to connect directly to his router (He obviously has Wi-Fi since he cites not having the drivers). Unless it's not his router/modem and he's trying to steal his neighbours' signal.

Derp, read patch, thought crossover... Though most newer devices know how to autosense a crossover cable anyways.

Muh bad.

Well actually i have 3 computers here in front of me in addition to the one im trying to set up so i just downloaded the necessary drivers on one of them, but its kind of the principle of the thing...using cables...the horror.

Actually its been years since ive had this issue pop up. Usually there are some generic drivers included that let you use the computer well enough until you get the proper stuff.

God damn T-mobile automatic bill paying system is falling apart (at least for me). Bill payed on monday... Today I get a text "Can't process automatic payment."

Second time that has fucking happened.

OH and its never warned me about failing to process a automatic payment when it actually wasn't able to, so thats fun as well.

I've been offered a job at work as an educator. It's a temp position and once the work is done I will go back into my old line. I'm just so unsure if it's something I'm ready to do at this point. I'm probably just being too hard on myself, but I need to respond to my manager tomorrow with a decision. I know I should just do it but ugh!

Teaching isn't really difficult as long as you know the subject (it seems like you're a good nurse, so no problems there) and you're able to remember what it was like not to know what you know.

It also requires a lot of stamina if you have a difficult student. Do it, what's the worst that could happen?

Posted by Silky Johnson on Jan-02-2013 23:40:

Well it's not the teaching as much as it is being in a position of somewhat more authority among my peers, and acting as a resource. The point of this role is to implement best practice and show staff how/why we do things. There are a lot of changes going on at my hospital, and of course everyone has been so resistant to it, so they have created this position to show people how/why the changes will benefit them/patient care etc. There's more to it, but yeah.

It's just gonna be hard to inspire these people - I don't want anyone to resent me, especially being so "new".

Jenny you are a total bitch and hardass online, if you can manage to translate that even more than you probably are in real life too then you'd probably kill that position (in a good way, and by kill i mean help save lives probably).

Dooooo it.

Can't they just use informational posters instead?

I know this may sound corny but always make sure you're not coming too strong at your students and that you think of this difference in hierarchy as situational (they know things you don't, and vice versa). As long as you keep these two things in mind, there should be no problems. I mean...

Being younger than your students is seldom an easy thing though. It's just a matter of time until the know-alls (usually your age) flip out... the only way you can delay this unfortunate event is letting these types participate as much as possible - and being very careful when you correct them, otherwise they'll drag you into unnecessary debates and/or simply wreak havoc.

I turned it down. I know in my heart I'm not ready for this kind of role. Plus it occurred to me that the schedule doesn't work at all with other things I have planned over the next few months.

Phew. I actually feel really good about it...def would have been way beyond me. Heh.

pussy.

that sounds like an excuse i would make.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Jan-03-2013 20:23:

It's the truth. It's not like I would get paid any more to do this job, so why take on more responsibility for something I feel unprepared to do? I'm interested in doing the best I can at whatever I take on, and I know I'm not the right person (yet) for this.

Most people doing this kind of job have at least 10 years of clinical experience and/or a master's degree. I have neither of those.

My manager appreciated my "self recognition". It's not like this kind of opportunity won't ever present itself again.

Surely there's more to life than how much money you make in your job though? If you find the extra sense of satisfaction of doing something complicated (and useful) outweighs the stress then it might be worth it then. Just because it gives you more money which is something you don't care about doesn't mean that that's a reason not to take it. I suppose you've implied it's something you might want to do in the future and that you're planning on doing it then so that makes sense.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Jan-03-2013 20:42:

There's only 'more to life than money' after you make money.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Jan-03-2013 20:59:

Jesus psyshell you're a fucking moron.

youre an idiot. She decided not to do it because she didnt feel ready for the job. It's called setting realistic goals. What the fuck does it matter to you??
