Which is the best Oakenfold live set
What is your favorite Oakenfold live set? I've only got one, the Essential Mix Home@Space in Ibiza. Just wondering what I should download next as it takes about 6 hours to do (I was thinking maybe Creamfields). C'mon what's your favorite, I know you have one.
thats funny cause thats the one that i was gonna say.
Without a doubt his essential mix from Space ( Ibiza-99 )
If it takes you that long to download, get his 99 essential mixes first. and you already have ibiza, probably the best one.
but just keep in mind, that most of those EMs were a little different from his normal live sets...a little more mellow.
His live creamfields set, will give you a true prespective of him live.
MOre energy!!
if you can find it,
Paul Oakenfold - 1999 12 19 - Live on Beat 106 Mix Scotland

Havana, Cuba OWNS YOU ALL....."Turn it arround baby, turn it arround"..
essential mix from space in 1999
tho I know az will say creamfields 1999
Creamfields 98
first trance I ever listened to
I HAVE to say that hearing Oakenfold live at Ultra5 in Miami made me feel so good. I was paralyzed .....What a day that was. He played so much quality.I was so impressed. 'Til this day I am still searching for that set. :sigh: Anyone ????
If youve already got space ibiza i would recommend Shangai China, thats my second favourite.
i've got all 31 of his emixes, all 35 of his urban soundtracks, and all 27 of his state sides (to date), plus all the oakey live sets and mix cds i'm interested in owning... so i reckon i can express my opinion pretty decisively (if u ain't heard them all u can't really choose the best!)
my fave live event emixes:
1) creamfields 99 [the atmos when he starts, drops lizard, drops dumonde is quite simply like nothing else i have ever heard]
2) lotherton hall 99 [a breathtakingly well crafted live set with another phenomenal atmos... he read the crowd like a book!]
3) homelands 99 [a legendary hi-energy mix containing tekknova, auranaut, gouryella into gouryella mix of binary finary and many other great tunes/moments]
my fave (presumed) live studio emixes:
1) ibiza 99 [the first half is musical heaven, with some of the most beautiful melodic prog/trance ever made, and the second half is dancefloor destruction with the HUGE oakey classics radiohead, bullet in the gun, and skip raiders, back when they were exclusive white labels]
2) china 99 [again the first half is just out of this world. NO progressive dj has ever structured such a thoughtful and underground but mind-blowingly hot emix as this - the breakbeat section is utterly superb, and only oakey had the balls to drop THAT vengaboys track!]
3) australia 99 /liverpool uni 99 [wouldn't like to choose between these two... both awesomely programmed and way ahead of time. liverpool uni marked oakey's move towards a darker sound, and is possibly the finest example of what i call 'oakentrance'... some incredible pumping vocal prog tracks]
my fave (presumed) computer studio emixes:
1) goa 94 [quite simply the most imaginative, innovative dj mix i have ever heard. a musical artpiece that will NEVER be bettered]
2) fluoro 96 [similar vein to goa... again he was years ahead of the rest - sampling agagio for strings 3 years before the william orbit rework. this emix was so good he released it as a cd compilation, albeit without the unlicensed led zeppelin track!]
3) may 00 [hugely underated studio masterpiece that provided the basis for his 'another world' compilation. also a possible first uk play delerium - silence tiesto mix]
a great non-emix studio set that's worth checking is 'urban soundtrack episode 9 - come together'. this was 99 oakey at his very very best, and the story told over the top is sooooooo cool!
my 5 cents anyway :-P
