What equipment do you need to make a track???

Hi, guys ive been visiting these forums for a while, but this is the first time I have posted.

I was just wondering what equipment you would need to produce your own track?

I been djing with vinyl for about 4 months now, and i wanna be a bit more creative.

Do I need some sort of sampler or effects unit?

Thanks

All you need is a PC and some software.

like fruity loops??? to make cheesy boring tracks, yes! but i guess if you've got money, u may get a hold of many quality virtual synths...

btw, korg makes good samplers & drum synths. haven't rested them yet though....

about synths...norlead 2 is good

cheesy boring tracks.... hmmm.. didn't know that for example parker - beams of gaia was cheesy and boring... and doesn't flutlich and cosmicman and some more big artists use fruityloops too???

guess they are chessy and boring then

+ it's just to listen to many in here that are using fruityloops with some VSTi's that make great track's... so do'nt come and say that you make cheesy and boring track's just becaus you only use software like fruityloops.

If you make cheesy and boring tracks it's because you suck, not because the program sucks.

That is unfortunately true. Although it's so much easier to pass the blame...

May I suggest downloading the demos of Reason and Fruityloops. I tried the Reason Demo, but could get any sorta sound - but maybe I'm just dumb...

Any suggestions?

The wires might not have been connected right. Did you put in a mixer first? Oh, and did you flip the rack around (Tab) to see if the wires were connected?

Yeah, it's all connected. Apperently the demo song should be playing when you start the demo...

If I remember correctly, the bit at the top that says "Audio Out" reads "no sound".

Any ideas?

With patience and experience (qualities I lack) Reason 2 can be used to make decent sounding stuff - you probably don't want to get into anything more complicated than that if you're a beginner.

I beg to differ; must I mention artists like, 'Parker', 'Lightworks', 'Flutlicht', 'Shokk', 'Ronski', and many others including myself use this powerful piece of program equipment. You can trick many people's ears with clever use of Fruity's software plug-ins. It just takes time, practice, dedication, and LONG HOURS of work!

I've spoken to many DJ's and Big named artists, who respect this program; the only people who don't are ignorant, impatient people, who don't have the time, or stereotype products for there cheap prices. Not to flame you my friend, but I just had to state the facts. -Mental

reason, fruityloops, cubase, sonar, logic audio, orion platinum, etc. etc. are all plenty good enough programs to make music with. try them all out if you have the time and find out which one suits you the best.

to say a particular piece of software will determine how your finished work ends up is to say the least 'very dumb'.

Posted by Bren-F on Apr-11-2003 17:10:

Fruity & Reason are your best bets, Also make sure you have lots o patience (and I mean LOADS !!)

as for Fruity sounding cheesy... well I don't use it myself but I have heard some of the stuff you can do with it and I must dissagree.

The best thing to do is to sit down for hours on end, pissing about. Its the only way to learn, worked for me Although i wouldent touch fruityloops with a barge pole (only my personal opinion)

since what i'm going to do is use terms that you wont klnow yet, i suggest that you head over to www.fruityloops.com, and get the "getting started" manual. The odf has a problem, so get the zipped word document.

Basically, it explains EVERY basic function with screenshots, and easy to understand language. It covers everything, so it's great for n00bs to fruity, enjoy
