I don't think so. It probably would have been easier to do it for real. Seems like a team of engineers spent a few days thinking this stuff up.

Not necessarily. Depending on their mass, physics dictate that the tires can move a bit upward because of the impact of the previous one, before rolling down.
A guy called Rube Goldberg used to draw animations of complex machines like this one. They were quite popular at the time. Here's a site about it.

True. The tire wouldn't stay where it is if it wasn't weighted or held in place.
