Technics vs. Vestax!! Need to Know!!!!

I am buying some new tables! I am thinking about getting either Vestax or Technics!!! Dont know!! Which one is better and why!!! People say that Vestax are much better cause of there high torque!!! So i need some help!!! thanks alot!!! Another thing is that what kind of mixer should i get!!! I am thinking about getting the Vestax PMC-170A Techno/Trance Mixer!!!! is it a good choice? thanks alot TA's.

Vestax does make good mixers though and the PMC 170 is a really good choice for a bedroom DJ

Here is the 411.

Technics are expensive for a reason. They last a very long time. They are used by 90% of real deejays at 95% of all the clubs. Technics are worth every penny. Vestax are starter decks in my mind but i'd go with technics, even if you are a bedroom deejay cause they take a lot of abuse and keep on ticking. My opinion, go with Technics. Don't settle for anything else

Well I have both the technics and vestax.. both are extremely good but i find the vestax more user friendly.. the pitch slider has more feel and doesn't have the annoying ball bearing recess at 0% pitch..

so its down to personal preference.. if you are thinking of being just a bedroom dj you can opt for the vestax.. if you do want to go out and play, buy the technics cos its used everywhere..

as for mixers also check out the allen & heath xone 32, vestax pmc270a, or the rane range of mixers

Technics! gotta go with those...even if you are a bedroom dj there is always the chance you are gonna spin out somewhere..and there u will most likely find Technics..plus they are the standard...nothing really compares....and as far as a mixer.. I got the Vestax PMC-270a and it is top notch...

I have a pair of Vestax PDX-d3. It's great, but it's not the same as Tech 12. Go get a pair ot Tech 12 Mk3 if you can. No recess at 0%. More rugged than Vestax in the long run. As for the mixers. Any mixer will do.

DON'T BUY M3D'S!!!!! I bought a pair just as they came out back in 1999 and I too thought the features would be better (the recessed on off knob, the "improved motor and electronics", the absence of the 0% recess etc..) and all they actually did was spoil what would have been good concepts. The startup is not as powerfull or fast as the standard 1200 (1.6kg opposed to 1.8kg) the electronics do not keep the pitch as tight as the originals. They have only been released in the US, not in europe (England sells the most units(mk2's) per population and technics have confirmed they will never be released there). They also have not been released in Japan, as they developed them then immediadtely resdesigned them and brought out the mark 4's. The build quality is not as good on the M3D's as the mk2's (I know because I have taken both apart and serviced them myself) which defeats the decks main selling point : quality and durability. They really even don't feel as crisp as the mk2's. Its' great to try to and improve but Technics should have remembered "if it aint broke... don't fix it" in this case. Having said that (much as I am a devout Technics fan) the Vestax pdx2000's(I'm nearly sorry to say) are technically superior. Their adjustable functions are well thought out ans executed, they have less tonal distortion, a superior tone arm, the pitch slider is more accurate and they are roughly (tiny+) the same price. The only problem with them is that most clubs just run technics so if you want to mix in 95% of clubs you will have to be proficient on mk2's. This is soon changing: fabric in london has vestax, twilo in N.Y. has them, just to name to majors who are not afraid to piss traditionalists (technics users) off. If enough clubs replace their tech's with vestax then they will be the platform and new industry standard. Only time will tell...........

i still dont know which one!!! i guess i prob. go with technics but i am also thinking about getting the vestax cause there start up speed and the back spinn!!! i am not sure yet but i will be this weekend!!! dude just go with technics..95% dj's can't go wrong....

Don't just go for technics because 95% of dj's use them. Half of that 95% have them set up wrong anyway!! Ask yourself one question :
What are you using them for ???
If you are going to play in clubs very frequently, then definately buy technics because as it stands now, nearly every club has them and you will get frustrated having to adjust when you want to play out.
If you are going to be mixing in your bedroom,using it for studio sampling or making tapes at home go for the vestax (it sounds from your previous posts you actually prefer them) and they do have good functions.

Well Rann, Technics has been providing tech support and spare parts for the 1200MK2 for over 20 years now, so if something happens to bust (and it will, inevitably) you know that you will be able to get it fixed. Vestax, on the other side, seems to come out with a new deck every year or so ... I kind of doubt that they will support their current decks say, 5 years from now.

Also, what is the point of all the gadgets on Vestax decks ? All you need is a start/stop and RPM select buttons ... that's it. The more gadgets you have the more possibility there is for something to break.

Agreed, the Techs do have good servics support, and so do vestax but I know what you mean vestax changing designs every year. I have spoken to them a they said they have no plans to cahnge the design of the new pdx2000 for the next couple of years at least. All I'm saying is that some people on this site were advising that technics is the only way to go simply because 95% of DJ's use them. This mentality does not progress the technology or the scence as a whole. As for those functions of the reverse mode you can get a kit that is very simple to install (double click on the start/stop makes it reverse) and it has nice blue lights istead of the red. This aside the whole point I'm trying to make is that the vestax are in theory a superior deck, and that only the test of time will dictate whether the "improvements" of the pdx2000 over 1200's are worth the sacrifice of having a deck that lasts 20 years.

My vote is for Technics......ABSOLUTELY!!

RANN, vestax might the superior deck - on paper. Once it gets in a DJ booth, nobody cares about numbers on the spec sheets, the only important thing is the way the deck feels.
I have played on the PDX2000 on several occasions and my impression is that the deck is a joke. It doesn't behave the way I would like it to behave (whereas technics does).

Just because the PDX2000 is newer doesn't mean it's better by any means and the argument about not progressing the technology is laughable ... if you want to be a techie then play CDs.

ABSOFUCKINLUTELY!! Like I mentioned in another thread, I've had mine for about 20 years now and they work just as good as the day I bought them. treat them right and they'll last forever.

TECHNICS ALL THE WAY!!!!>....they set the standard everyone else is trying to follow them ...so why not go with the brand that created it the whole DJ turntable!!=)

I have 2 / 1200 mk2s in my set up ...and i wouldnt trade them at all for any other deck..some say M3ds or the Vestax are better ..but I dont care Techs 1200 mk2 are still what you all need awsome craftsmanshift and thats all what i need..... my uncle used them back in 1983 and i use them now..... so i saw stick with the name that had over 20 years to back there claims up

today i checked out the vestax. WOW!!!! I am so damn suprised by the perfomance. It seems like its much better than Technics. I am still shocked to see how good they are! Another thing vestax have better start speed then technics. Technics i know they are industry standard but i still dont know what to buy. I really like the vestax, but not much clubs use vestax. I want to spin at clubs. So what i need some help. I am gonna buy my new tables on the 16th of june. So i need to make sure what should i get! Thanks amit

The PDX-2000 is a solid turntable and is on the same level of performance as the Technics 1200's. If you can get a good deal on a pair of Vestax, I would not hesitate to buy them. At the same price howver, I lean twords the Technics. Technics are the defacto standard for clubs as everyone has already pointed out, and the main advantages of the vestax don't benefit a trance DJ too much.

amit: how old are you?

i am 16... turning 17 on june 14th. Yeh so i am getting new tables on the 16th. i don't like the tables that i have right now! ummm i will guess that i would go towards technics. I like them but i am not sure yet. I will be like in couple of days. Even if i get vestax would that effect me if i spin at clubs which have technic turntables? come on how hard could it be to beat match with them? I find it really easy to beat match with any turntable. Its just you have to get some crappy direct drives. So any one can give me some good advice that would be great. thanks TA's for all the posts that you have made
