why does most of PvD's music sound the same?!??!??!?!

I mean, can't he think of anything else? Same basic kick, same basic feel, everything is the same. His live sets carry similar monotony. How long is he going to continue doing the same thing over and over again? I must give credit that "Nothing About You" has SLIGHTLY a new feel, but still the beats sound the same. It's produced very well, and I've big fan of PvD, but after hearing it for 3 years straight, it has begun to occur to me that its getting boring, everything sounds the same. I know people say that is "his sound"..... for how long? It's getting boring. I should imagine, it's been boring for a while now. It's 2003, not 1998. Time to change, PvD.

if it is not broken, do not fix it!

see armin, tiesto, ferry, above&beyond, johan gielen, dumonde, etc... it does not apply to Paul only, but to many artist/producers in the scene.

- Paul sounds changes usually in 2 - 3 years. his sound from 1998/1999 is not the same as todays. the one currently is quite more complex and well structured. I would say Paul has been using the similar kits since 2000. and changed it late 2002 when produced nothing but you, guide me god remix, and new upcoming tracks from the album, which I know you have not heard. therefore, I suggest to wait for his new album then come back and reply to this thread and you will say... wow. I can assure you this. the new album kick ass and you will not be dissapointed. I promise

comments?

all the best,

art

i can see your point about his percussion sounding the same...but his trks are completely individual...his reworks are unique, his sounds are always complex. tiesto, armin, all the dj's & producers that f0x named off, listen to their trks...they all have basic structure & sound to them too...armin uses that hollowed-bubbly bassline, tiesto w/ his chorused brass sections...its just they are all amazing producers and know how to utilize sounds...dont knock pvd just because his trks are vaguely similiar...take his success into consideration first...and like f0x said, wait for his next album...

he is still G0d

I've bashed him for ages for sounding Samey, ATB did it and got bashed, a lot of pvd is too similar imo, to make himself a great producer he should do something different, like Avenue was, his best piece imo

armin and ferry have received their fair share of bashing also

Honestly I did not see any previous topics with this theme. This is something I thought lately after seeing him a few times, and listening to GLOBAL. I do look forward to his new music, if you say its going to sound diference.

also, i agree other artists have similar sound. armin definately does, corsten yes, A&B yes. Tiesto has most dynamic sound out of them all, I have heard remixes by Tiesto and not known it is by him. That is they key, can you listen to some track or remix, and guess who it is by? I'm not saying all of your productions should always sound unique and diference from one another, just ONCE in a while, vary it a little? Produce something that nobody ever thought you would do. PUNK - Ferry Corsten. He showed us his different style and influence there. I challenge PVD to do the same. Tiesto has done it many times. Armin, still, has more dynamic sound than PVD.

Rasta

well..Global was just a best of for PvD m8...a video/mix cd displayin his worldwide journey's, w/ updated & remastered classics...ANIMACION ***TUNE!!!!!!

Posted by TRanTS on Apr-10-2003 07:02:

I have to also say, PVD is not as bad as artist like Cosmic Gate (TOTAL the same), SHOKK (same), Foggy and other artist. There are many more that are stuck with same kick drum and same production technik. Hiver & Hamer is one of the worst, all remixes sound same.

god so true! lol

Posted by TRanTS on Apr-10-2003 07:29:

but, still I listen to H&H...... it is good music. goods thing is, you like one track, you will like all the rest. it is good marketing tactic.

Doesnt anybody realize this applies to most bands or artists. If you hear a Linkin Park or a Sum 41 song you know it is by them. Most bands have a signature sound. They will work outside of that sound but for the most part they keep to their general style. I can tell you from years of listening what band is playing a song witin the first fifteen seconds of hearing most tunes. Why should this not apply to trance or techno tunes also.

Posted by TRanTS on Apr-10-2003 07:43:

good point Ramone Weild, however do you not feel that electronic music has much greater possibilty of production changes and variety than kind of music SUM41 and Linkon Park make? All they have is drums, bass, and guitar. Not much electronic content. WIth electronic music, it is a blank slate, and anything can be created. Therefore, there is greater possibility for diversity. Also I do not think it accurate to compare PVD to those bands.

sorry fox...but his musik is not more complex than back in the day

pvd-nothing vs. pvd -words for love?.....

u decide

The only people that care if he sounds the same are the people that don't enjoy his music. If you like his music then similar tracks you will like too. Personally I don't think PvD is that great, and I agree that having seen him a couple of times and hearing many sets, they bore me. That is not to say he is shit or talentless mind you, and I'm certainly not jumping on any bandwagon here, just voicing my opinion.

OT: When is PVD's new artist album coming out ?

Posted by dj willie whop on Apr-10-2003 16:30:

i totally agree pvd is total crap. i just happened to listen to politics of dancing the other day and i noticed he used the same damn bass kick for like 13 straight songs... it was fuckin garbage... i literallly yanked the cd out of player and tossed it out the window going 70mph. i mean trance is general is crap anyway, but pvd is defiently one of the most boring djs ive ever heard/seen

dont believe the hype

Posted by Diehard_clubber on Apr-10-2003 16:43:

I'm starting to get bored of this board now, people say that his tunes all sound the same... well this fucking board sounds the same everyday. So many new anti PVD posts everyday.

Why do people feel they need to slate people that are successful?? Everyone thought Tiesto was the bollocks till he got big, then suddenly people want to feel big and slate them.

PVD's stuff does sounds similar cos that is his style! End of! All Dj's have their own style and sound, and i personally love it.
