Beat Match ?

im just wondering how long it takes for you to match the beat perfectly with the other song, when your mixing? for me it takes like 25 or 30 second's Tops sometimes 10 second's ........

depends on the tracks

anywhere from 15 seconds to around 50 secs for me

i guess progressive and house dj's takes, like 5 second's or not even 1, always the same Bpm and so easyyyyyy to mix,, but music like techno and trance are a little bit more harder to match fast, cause of their beat's


Techno Could be always: 135 or 134 to 140 Bpms,
Trance: Same
House and prog: 128 to 130 , at least all progressive songs i know, got that Bpm

It takes me about 25 secs on average I guess

for me from 15-20 seconds to 60-70 seconds.

really does vary, sometimes i get it beatmatched instantly, sometimes up to a minute depending on the tracks and the volume which i'm playin at

It varies of course... depending on how accurate you want it to be, if you listen to the two tracks playing together for a long enough period of time there is almost always possible to adjust the pitch by a tenth of a millimeter to get it even more accurate.

Also, sometimes it's a nice challenge to mix without beatmatching at all, that is, beatmatching after having released the cued track. Good for improving your skills.

im sure it is almost impossible to get a 'perfect' beatmatch in under 30 seconds. if you listened to your cued up, apparently perfectly matched, track playing alongside the live track in your headphones you would notice them slowly drift out. its the nature of analogue equipment. there will always be room for improvement in the beatmatching department when using a turntable to do so.

on a good day (and on good decks.. i.e. not mine) i usually have things beatmatched enough to mix in 10 secs min, 30 secs max..

I don't think you can say that, faster BPMs are more difficult to match but the actual transition will only take a fraction of a second. Progressive, on the other hand, may take a whole 2 minutes or more for the whole transition to complete itself, so naturally more effort must be put in to make the beatmatch stick.

Mixing at a faster BPM is actually easier because the beats will drift apart faster, thus you can notice and correct errors before you would be able to at a slower BPM.

I actually think trance is easier to mix, y? Cause of the build-up in a track

I disagree for the very same reason.
I find that mixing slower genre's (Funky, Prog) is SO much eaiser than trance.
Hard house is also easy coz your transitions tend to be quicker with less chance of messing up, but that doesnt mean longer transitions are more difficult.

I find trance the hardest coz you need to cue correctly so that you havent got too many layers going on at once which sound messy.
Prog and funk are more minimal so hardly ever sound cluttered (tho getting overlaying vox in funky is annoying)

But i think trance is actually difficult to mix, to many breaks,

Techno is very repetitive sometimes at the beganing so, it's easier

But Prog and House, Come onnnnnnn it's much much easier......

trance isnt necessarily harder to beat match, its harder to mix because of a strong sense of key from either a bass line or melody/harmony hence the track you are mixing into has to sound ok against this to sound like an ok mix. even if it was beatmatched and you mixed in a bass line its going to sound obvious and sometimes completely wrong. which is generally why trance is harder to mix with stuff compared to things like techno

on average i'm takin approx 40 secs.

with the cd tt's once youve hooked it up right its normally dead on. i tested this by finding two 10 min tracks, setting off one and instantly matching (out loud) the second in to it. After 15 seconds off tweaking it, i happily listend to two tracks stay in line for a good 4 minutes before i got bored listening to a mess of synths

25-60 seconds for me....sometimes up to 2 minutes, when i mix prog, and i wanna make some long ass transition....so i try to match it perfectly....

and the most easiest style for me to mix, is prog breaks... it has more sounds, and beats r not 4/4...so u can fuck up a lil bit, and noone will notice =) lol

usually bout 40 - 60 seconds for me. it can be more depending on the tune tho.

Usually between 5 and ten seconds. If I'm lucky I can get it matched more quickly.

Yeah, all those people who are into breaks look down on people who mix 4/4 as inferior. The funny thing is, I can mix their breaks just as well or better than they can, and when they try to mix my trance or my prog, their beats gallop like someone who's been mixing for about a week!

Since i got my 1210's I can usually cue the track so its matched instantly and then i nudge the record to get it perfect,so it usually takes 5-10 seconds
