Angry I just heard Paul Van Dyk - Nothing but you On Z103!!

mmmm so I was on my way to school this morning, and as soon as I turned on the car I heard Paul Van Dyk - nothing but you,so I thought it is probably my cd player on,but I was wrong it was on Z.103
so to be honest I was a bit surprised to hear it on radio, well I mean it is very new,and Z.103 ususaly playes stuff from like 2 years ago,so I dont know what this means.Does it mean we'll be seeing Paul Van dyk at summer rush or something?? I wonder how other people think about this,I mean the people who are not really into trance.Does this means that trance is getting commercialized.mmm I wonder what the ginos will say about all this??Gino:"eeh dude bro you heard this solid song by Paul Van Dyk??I cant wait wait to pump this in my shitvic at Coffee T",:whip

well it is a very scary cenerio but it could happen very soon. But ok lets not be nagative about this, this should be good for us trancelovers, meaning we could get bigger events in the near future.
So anyways what do you all think about this?it is a good thing, bad thing??

Posted by Bloop on Apr-17-2003 19:42:

U know I recall seeing some Paul Van Dyk music videos on much music before... and well u can't really blame him... it's a good way to earn some extra money!

So yes, he probably will be commericialized like the cheese sandstorm and atb.

*sigh*

PVD is still so hot right now!

Posted by nick_energy on Apr-17-2003 19:44:

I dunno if good or not, probrobly good for himself get more $$ coz de way is comercial. Therefore,I do love most of PVD's tracks, but not this one, that's why i disapointed... I think this one is soso...i would perfer Hemstock& Jenning mix...

Posted by grafal on Apr-17-2003 19:49:

Yeah I heard that song on z103 too. Well, I think it has something to do with Paul van Dyk was suppose to be spinning here on Sunday. Everytime PvD comes to Toronto, z103 plays a lot of his tracks. So it might just be a promotional thing, LOL they probably dont know he cancelled.

I really don't get it... you people:
1) hate euro/gino culture
2) wish trance would become more popular
3) obviously listen to z103 semi-regularly
4) freak out and complain on TA when they play a trance track?

No offense but get a grip, guys. They're allowed to play trance - does there have to be a formal announcement on TA every time it happens?

mmm the reason I brought this up is because I was very surprised hearing a brand new release trance song on radio, and I thought it was intresting, and wanted to know how others felt about it,and yes they are allowed to play what they wish, but hearing this song on the radio was just abit weird for me thats all, dont get me wrong now I really love this song.Well Iam just very intrested to see how other people(none TA's) think about this song!!

i think diginut's reponse was in context from other repeated "trance on z103" and gino bashing threads.

I do not really wish trance became more popular. Popular is another way of saying commercialized

I think I will get flamed for this but what the heck..

Don't you guys wish we had a scene sort of like the one they have in Holland? One where 10,000+ person parties happened once a month?

Well to answer my own question, I would have to say yes. The only way that could ever even remotely happen is for some elements of electronica to go mainstream here in Toronto. It is obvious that if any elements of electronica were to ever go mainstream it would be the highly commercialized trance and to be honest I wouldn't mind it that much. Instead of people listening to freestyle they would listen to cheese trance, which is a step in the right direction for the scene period.

Remember there are some elements of electronica that would never go mainstream, therefore you guys wouldn't have to worry about the gino invasion.

In summary, I think it's good that z103 is playing some trance, it's definitely a healthy sign for the scene.

personally, I wouldn't. Of course, I've never attended an event that huge, but there's really nothing enticing about it. It's not like 10,000+ people will create a better vibe; especially in Toronto.

it did before !

obviously pvd aimed for this to be on the radio. He made radio edits for a reason, and called it "modern pop"

i'm still praying to see this day in my lifetime... first people laff at z103 for calling, perpetuous dreamer - sound of goodbye, "new shit" last summer, and now when z103 actually gets with the program and plays a song thats ACTUALLY new, they get ragged on again... seems like everything they do is wrong. i say props to z103... they're taking this city a step in the right direction... i hope they start playing darude's new tracks ("music", and "next to you")... they're actually pretty good...

we're not gonna get TRANCE ENERGY here til people accept the fact that if you're going to have a big enough fan base to get that kind of event, there are going to be people who aren't as hardcore as us... do you think everyone in holland is a tranceaddict? its not like i live in holland, but i'm willing to bet that a good percentage of the people at sensation and trance energy are just casual trance listeners...

we can't expect to ever have an entire city of TAs, but as long as trance gets radio exposure, it will increase our fan base, which is never a bad thing...

10,000 ppl is so not interpersonal. You would prefer huge, labour of love style parties over smaller, more "intimate" parties?

Cause every1 is paraanoid about the fact that Ginos will invade our "space". Meaning, that we donl;t want them at our events (altho it is their right to go wherever the fuck they want) and have them on our "turf" lol if I can put it that way. I think most people don't want them getting into our stuff cause they will bring their bad attitudes with them. I dunno that is just a thought. I don't liek having ginos around me cause from my experiences they are very rude and tend to kill my buzz at parties cause they always seem to find the little space Ihave to dance inf ront of me as their "parking lot".

thing is tho. The trance and prog we love will never see its own Radio station becaue the CRTC requires a Canadian based Radio station to have 30 (or 40) percent Cannuck contend. So. Unless a bunch of new canadian Trance artist arise out of nowhere to fill that gap. Until then, we can't do nothing.

Posted by bomberMAN on Apr-18-2003 17:00:

yo I don't understand why you are complaining about hearing Trance on the radio. We all know that we have like 0 trance tracks on the radio in t.o. I hardly ever listen to radio for that exact reason! I Tune in to 100.7 or 89.5 sometimes late at nights and yes z103.5 sometimes. Anyways all the radio stations in t. play Hip-Hop & R&B now. thats bullshit. I wish there was a trance/techno only station! yeeaaaa... dat would be sik...

Posted by Dr. Z on Apr-18-2003 18:00:

wtf?

There is nothing to discuss here. And stop throwing everything on the Ginos, they're the same people as you are.

The problem is that paraniod TAs want the scene to remain "underground". Why? Probably because if its underground its "cool". Cool because its different, unique, not mainstream. Also gives some people a personality, which originally they probably did not have.

Since when did trance become the music for a select few? Out of all people, we know the true potential of trance, and we know it will affect anyone listening to it.

Posted by mr. poopyhead on Apr-18-2003 18:23:

what's with the gino hating anyways??? just cause a select few of them are jerks, doesn't make them all bad... there are jerks from every race or whatever division of society... generalizing like that is just plain stupid...

next thing you know, we'll be hating all asians just cause a few of them are on 20 different drugs, getting nekkid in the club and staring at little girls... gimme a break..

why don't we just tell all the black people to stick with hip hop and not listen to trance while we're at it? a good trance scene will never work with this kind of discrimination...

i'm not suggesting we lobby for an all trance radio station, (though it would be nice, =P)... i'm just saying that z103 should be applauded for its efforts to show people there's more music out there besides the stuff on MUCH, or whatever top 40 list is out there... we should be supportive... maybe do our part in helping the scene out... educate your friends, =P.

When I went to Miami for this year's WMC I kept listening to Party 93.1 Hell it would be sweet if we had a radio station like that in Toronto. That would play only DANCE MUSIC! Me and my friend are driving with our windows open, and people on the sidewalk are screaming yeah! to the TRANCE tune that is playing.

However I doubt that Z 103.5 would go as far as Party 93.1
