Ooooh Armin, how I *heart* you!

Man this dude was just awesome. I mean aside from the obvious, in that he played the absolute best trance, you could tell he was absolutely loving every minute of the tracks. If there was a single person in that building that was possibly enjoying the tunes more than me, it was him, and it SHOWED. Nothing but smiles and energy the entire night, was great =)

He's pretty funny too, I kept coming up and requesting shit and he'd be like "we shall see!", but I think that gave him the impression that I knew my trance so every time he was dropping some killer buildup he'd look over at me with a look of "isn't this the shit?".

What a good time, it's a shame that the sound and crowd was a little sketch.

i'm so excited about this!!! he's playing tonight at bal en blanc!!! 13000 peeps shouting ARMIN

Posted by Sean Walsh on Apr-20-2003 19:15:

He is seriously one of the friendliest, nicest DJs I have ever seen, which is really appropriate for the awesome happy music he plays. You will have a great time Malek, especially since PVD was disappointing =/

fuck twisted, fuck twisted, FUCK TWISTED in their SORRY FUCKING ASSES for pulling a typical twisted productions party, and OVERSELLING THEIR GODDAMN TICKETS, forcing me, elena, and 3 of my friends to wait in line from 2-4 pm, missing HALF OF ARMINS SET, because they oversold the fucking venue.

FUCK THEM.

damn, that happened to me a couple years ago at iMix... sorry to hear that!

Posted by sothis on Apr-20-2003 20:41:

yea, i know twisted is notorious for it, but GOD. not when its fucking armin and we have to stand there with 20 people in front of us for two hours, while listening to how kickass his set was.

again, FUCK THEM. if anyone from twisted is reading this, FUCK YOU. stop being so goddamn sketchy and do something that doesnt involve making as much money as possible for once.

and yes, pvd definitely wasnt disappointing.

but armins set was so much better. way more fluff

typical plaza. i was painfully reminded last night of just how much i hate that venue. *stabs people who run into you every 5 seconds and dont apologize.* *stabs people who sit at your feet anywhere you go* *stabs rude etards*

oh, and by the way, i was very, very unimpressed by the security. while standing in line, there was an asian girl by herself at the front, complaining about how she needed to get in. the crowd (mostly guys) in front of us started yelling shit about how she needed to suck some cock to get in. the security guards then started saying it too! and also that she needed to flash her tits. i dont know, this made me feel extremely uncomfortable, and embarassed for this girl... its always refreshing to be around a group of hormone-overpowering guys who like to show their complete lack of respect for women (including security guards, who are there to PROTECT you), by yelling out how you should be sucking someone's cock (and all the crowd's cock, most of them were saying) to be able to get in. seriously, thats just fucked up, guys.

when he dropped the Midway remix of SOLARCOASTER I allmost died

Posted by apri_peel on Apr-20-2003 20:59:

AMEN KIM!

that was a shit party but it was still somewhat worth coming out there and going thru all the trouble. he remembered me as a girl with a picture hehe

You called it!!!

Armin was damn good. Like Dj-Sean said, the man was having a good time behined the decks which was pretty cool to see. I could only ID 5 or 6 tracks but I liked a lot of the stuff he played during the begining and middle of his set.

I just thought the crowd was terrbile. To many pill poppers fucked outta there trees I'd way rather see DJ's spin at clubs where there's room and people are atleast there for the music. Nothing against people going to raves to have a good time.

Firewall - Sincere was my favorite tune all night. The melody is soo beautiful

Posted by torontotrance on Apr-20-2003 22:02:

nice to see.

My thoughts exactly. I'm just glad he dropped "My Religion"

Posted by exergo on Apr-20-2003 22:40:

armins set was monumental!!!

the venue, the crowd and the sound was a disaster
twisted sucks.....over %75 of the poeple in the main room probably dodn't even know who was spinnig....they were to jacked on drugs and flailing around like rag dolls......the probably put the decks 40 feet of the ground to armin wouldn't have to see it..and then the venue is just too big and bright for a good good party....

....man that set would have been so much better in a smaller venue....someones gotta do an AVB goldclub at the commodore

anyway, armin is wicked....you can tell he just loves it!

Posted by sothis on Apr-20-2003 22:43:

i thought of something else that really pissed me off.

again, i shouldnt even need to say that twisted sucks ass. another prime example, them turning off running water in the bathrooms. i mean, come on. thats just an all time low.. turning off running water so people have to buy more water. im sorry, but those bathrooms were fucking disgusting after awhile... and i really dont consider supplying hand sanitizer to be an acceptable alternative to having soap and water available at a NICE venue which normally has it, and obviously the only reason it was turned off was for them to make even more money.

Posted by apri_peel on Apr-20-2003 23:40:

the venue, the ppl, the shit aside, armin indeed was loving in. he was so much into providing a good time. compared to pvd, armin was so much out there, dont even have the words to explain it, he's the most energetic dj i've ever seen live and on video.

he droped a really sweet track around 4:30ish. it sounded VERY armin but i never heard it before, it was an amazing track. i dont know if anyone noticed it. i'm guessing its one of his new productions to be on the new album.

some other tracks in the second half that i recognized:
push - universal nation 2003 remake
jurgen vries - the opera song dub mix
masters and nickson - 5th dimension instrumental mix
armin - sunburn
aly and fila - eye of horous (horus??) i dunno lol
from the outside, i thought i heard exhale
pretty sure he also played perpetuous dreamer - the sound of goodbye some dub mix
and motorcycle - as the rush comes
solar stone - solarcoaster midway remix
marco v - c:\*del mp3
we also thought we heard alibi - enternity from outside
eon - pocket dammage

thats all i can think of right now
kinda took some pictures, but my camera got fcked up, so no pictures from me this time :\

That would kick some serious ace!!!!!

Anyone know what the 2nd to last track was?

It was also nice to see him after his set interacting with the people. Getting pictures taken and signing autographs. I tried to shake his hand at the end but all these little twink girls kept getting in my way

Hey Tyler, did u end up getting a picture taken with him?

Posted by Hondaswaper on Apr-21-2003 00:13:

YES! I will post the pic as soon as my friend emails it to me

Posted by Widget on Apr-21-2003 00:57:

hmm, sounds like it was an incredible evening. I didn't end up making it out after all, but sounds like the venue/sound was pretty bad.

Sorry I missed Armin though...
Oh well, not too much I can do about it now - guess I'll just have to go see Max Graham, Sasha and Hybrid to make up for it

he's still playing that? thats what he opened up with in Tokyo last January...

well Kim, at least we saw a good "full" set from him in Japan... maybe we should go back, good clean venues, no shady security, no cuddle puddles... just bad drinks...

Posted by christofa on Apr-21-2003 03:24:

add to the tracklist
scott bond vs solar stone - 3rd earth (2nd song)
pulser - my religion (3rd song)

In Montreal he was disappointing.

Lucky for (some of) you guys who got to see Armin yesterday! He's playing here at Bal en Blanc but the tickets are way too pricy for my liking. Guess I'll have to suffer until June, although I got a taste of him through Sean's cell a few times hehe

Posted by Sean Walsh on Apr-21-2003 04:49:

By PvD being disappointing I meant for the Montreal show, as that's where Malek is from. PVD rocked it here =)

MIKE - Turn the Lights off
Viframa - Cristalle (Katana Intro mix)

were others he played, I can't remember others but I recognized most.

Pulser - My Religion and MIKE - turn off the lights were the highlight of the night for me, fuck was I ever happy =)

ANd yeah, crowd and sound was sketch. I was talking to Armin's manager who was commenting about how low energy the crowd was, and I explained to him that people in this city, or more specifically at raves, don't really understand the music and just go there to do drugs. I told him to try to hook up with b&h next time for a club show.

Anyways, the DJ area was definitely the place to party at, it's a shame I didn't run into you guys before his set because otherwise I could have gotten you all in there =/

I thought Roc Project - Never was 3rd right after the 3rd Earth?

I found a lot of the stuff he dropped last night had break parts in the breakdowns. One track had a pretty dope breakbeat structure in the build.
