Car Stereos
So I got my first car the other day 1997 VW Golf
Im going to replace the stereo of course, and am looking for a lil filler for the bottom end..now the deck is gone for sure
as are the 6 1/2 speakers + component in the door/dash
Im sure somebody on here is car audio know it all...
I checked out soundsaround and International today
both reccomended an MB Quart (I dont know the model)
so unless anybody has massive objections, thats probably what ill go with.
then comes deck, sub amp and sub......
deck
looking 50 x4, 2 preouts, and MP3 Capability
Sub amp and Sub
10 inch sub...amp to power accordingly.
What do you all reccomend?
i'm gonna upgrade to MB Quart QSD's from my rockfords one of these days. so i think you should get a PSD or QSD series for MBQ components. they are very clean sounding IMO.
as for deck, its your preference. your choice of style, features, display etc.. but make sure it puts out high voltage (4v and up) on your preouts, which i recommend having 3.
as for subs and amp, you should really go to some places and hear them in person to decide what you want. it also depends if you want SQ or just SPL.
i personally use a pioneer headunit and i think its great. many useful features and it sounds wonderful. even the deck power is doing pretty well powering my front stage, although i prefer to use an amp for it some time. anyway, have a look at the pioneer models. i recommend the higher end models.
how about a nice audiobahn 34" sub. should add a little punch to the low end.
if I was looking for competion gear I would have said so.
im getting a 10 thats for sure.
im potentiall looking @ MBquart 10 powered by a 300 watt I dont remember what brand amp
what would I need a 3rd pre out for?
1 for sub amp
2 for potential door speaker amp
3 for ????
thats why I want a 50 X4, 40x4 for do, and I would even like 60 X4 if possible
lol a 34" sub is definitely an overkill!

my budget is defined by sound
I want clean crisp highs, with a nice full low end
the prices ive been given are $1200 and $1300 Canadian
you could always get an ALpine Type R Dual 4-ohm sub powered by a Sony Xplod monoblock amp, I would recommend the new D1000P5. Since all Sony amps are 2-ohm stable, the amp would give out (i believe) 800watts RMS into that sub.
Get a nice Sony Head unit as well, they are very good, with many features. Almost all of them have MP3 compatibility for 200 (about 300USD)
I would rather eat shit 3 times a day than own a sony sound system
wicked TVs
I wont buy shit all from em but that
you'd rather eat shit 3 times a day!?
I was also going to suggest Alpine R-Type, or S-Type Subwoofers. I currently have Kicker Comp-10s, but am upgrading to the S-Types very soon. I have a friend who has 2 R-10s in his hatchback and they provide very clean bass, but they lack they power I like. The S10s pump alot alot of sound (near 1000 watts, I beleive) but are also some of the cleanest subs on the market.
As for Door Speakers, I have Alpine 5 1/4" 120W mids in the front and Alpine 5"x7" 160W mids in the rear. They provide an amazing amount of sound and are some of the best mid/highs I've heard yet. I have them un-amped also, running off only a 45x4 headunit. If these speakers were amped, they would be competition quality, no doubt!
My head unit sucks ass. I have a Sony unit with dual pre-outs and D-Bass. I would recomend NOT going with a sony unit. I ahte to sound like an Alpine add, but the high end Alpine head units are 60x4 with 3 pre-outs and beautifull displays, for around 300 bucks. When I get the money, tahts what I'm going to. MBQ units are also great, but stay away from the low end.
Good luck with your system!
By the way, what type of car is all this going into?

if he tells you this speaker has a better low end, you will hear a better low end. "psycho acoustics"
Well for 6.5 components can I recomend JL XR 650s?
To power your components I would go with a JL 300/4 or similiar 4 channel amp.
For a Sub, why not go for a JL 10w7? You only need one 10 inch subwoofer which will sound incredible. Possibly the best sounding sub on the market. To power this I'm not entirely sure, but I would guess an 800/1 amp. I'd recomend the JL one.
Here's my setup. Not all complete yet, but It's all ordered.
Alpine 7998 Head
Components:
2x JL XR 650
2x JL VR 690
Driven by a JL 450/4
Sub:
JL 12w7
Driven by a JL 1000/1
My system is very expensive, but I also belive is my dream system, it packs a punch but is also one of the cleanest sounds out there.
well I bought it today
12' Type S
powered by a Alpine v12 2 channel amp
for the front doors
MB Quart 6.5-but not component
Alpine CD 9805 head unit
all that + wiring harness, antena adaptor, cables and a sub box(all PG products) for $1550 Canadian
yay for staff prices!
in a few months ill go back and buy a 4 channel amp and a set of MB Quart Component speakers, and swamp them and the other ones around(front to back)

Type R's are 300 RMS to 1000W peak, whilst Type S are 200 RMS to 600W peak.
i'll gladly take my pioneer 9300 or the newer 9400 and premier models of those over ANY sony model anytime. sony car audio is gimmick before quality in my opinion. sure, pioneer may not be the BEST in sound quality either but i feel its a great combination of both quality and flashiness.
so Ive got the deck in, the sub wired and kicking, but we cant figure out how to get the damn door panels off to change my speakers!!!!!!
anybody know how? or know where to show me how?
I googled it, but came up w/ nothing.
try asking here or do a search in their forums.

OOH! I picked the headunit, speakers and subs right! What do I get as a prize?
And thank you, I did have the subs mixed up. I feel embarrased. My bad.
I had the same problem with my door speakers. I installed the subs, wires, headunit, everything, no problem. But I got to the doors and was about to rip the god damn plastic panels off, so I just took it to Sound Ideas and had them do it. I got the speakers there so it was free, and they do alot of performance systems, so I trust them.
As for my headunit...I got it when I turned 16. ROFL. Almost 4 full years ago. Its the old type with the round volume knob around the scource button and the D-Bass on the opposite side with a fuckin knob.
Top of the line when I got it. lol, it'd go for about 60 bucks now. Plus Sony's lazers get fucked up and stop reading discs. grrrr...
Looks liek you got a nice system in there. Hope its what you wanted!
Next month I'll post pics of my complete system, I can see u people here aren't Sony Audio zealots like me so I'll keep it short.
3x12" Sony Pentagonal Subs with 350W RMS to 1200W peak
each sub powered by a XM2160-GTX Amp. These give out 400W RMS x1 at 4 Ohms, so power is sufficient
2xFS6932 Speakers, one set on back shelf and one set as part of the custom enclosure in the boot for outdoor sound projection
2x XM-444 Amps, one running the 6x9's and one running the set of components in the front.
Also a set of 4" front speakers in the dash running on head unit power.
a MDX-M690 Active Black Panel Minidisc player for sound also linked to a 6 Disc Xplod Cd changer, mounted on the back shelf. Will be retrimming the door cards in red and silver vinyl, cos i cant afford leather
Also my custom subwoofer enclosure will encorporate some nifty soundwave manouevering with secret bits and bobs that will basically put all the sound waves into one direction, sortof making it louder or cleaner, who knows yet
Hmmm, now with all this sound and bass attracting attention to my car i should make the outside of it look half decent, hmm rims or TV's?
