windows
I used to have windows 98 on my comp. and I got tired of the bugs and crashes, and upgraded to windows XP.
And I came to loathe it strongly. so I ended up with windows 2000 pro.
which is, I think the best one out of the lot.( after updating it)
Just wondering what you guys use, I know all the new computers come with XP preloaded on them..so I asume thats what most of you have ??
So is there annyone else there who thinks Xp it total shit?

I have 98se and XP Pro Corp on the same computer
XP > *
its all about how you have it set up
if your computer cant handle it then dont bother
how can anyone not like xp
xp = big brother
imhop the loss of privacy and the invasive practices of microsoft far out way the benefits gained in any new features.
pirated xp pro > all. thank you very much.
yea i used to used win2k and lived by it... didnt want to convert to xp, but once they got those updates for xp, i found it to be more user friendly and actually faster than win2k...
i may actually convert back; just to be sure win2k is worst. just cause i like it so much :P
Ive got 4 computers, on the 2 other ones i use 98se, and on one of my newer ones iuse xp pro corp, and on my newest on i use windows server 2003 enterprise edition.

I just dont like how Xp is "user friendly" but in a sence it takes over your computer. Microsoft tries too hard to protect pepl from pirating it,,,

98 will do...
XP pro is the best when u have the right version and tweak it just right. Windows Server 2003 can be tweak too but its not mature enought yet

xp is off the hook
Hardcore 2k/Mandrake user here. I use 2k for gaming and Linux for coding =)
i did the EXACT same thing as Geed...
i had win98, then switched to winxp, then i switched to win2k... haven't looked back since..
winxp is just too fancy... slows the computer down to shit... and of course you say "if your computer can't handle it, don't use it" but the point is, ANY computer will run so much better without all the extra xp garbage... plus there are too many programs that still aren't fully compatible with winxp...
win2k is great, plus with the right tweaking, you can get everything to look just as good as XP anyways...
way to go dood.
win.2k all the way
win xp on my main machine just as i need it to be 100% compatable with uni computers for my work, once uni's over imm going back to linux, in comparison to windows, linux rules
out of all the windows xp pro is the best though, followed by 2000

yeah
My XP experience:
-Use a CD-Key that is less-commonly known. I've done this and experience no problems getting upgrades.
-Turn off all that fancy visual enhancement crap (i.e. alpha-blending transparent highlights). On an older machine - it can make a significant difference!
-Use the windows classic theme. The default blue theme is too much of an ackward leap from win98/2k
-Anything below 256 MB of RAM will sour your experience
-The reliability of WinXP far outweighs any incompatibility i now have with older software.
i just installed XP pro + all the updates and stuff.. and i have to say i fekkin love it
installation was the best thing since sliced bread.. no hours of fuckin around with drivers that should work but dont, did everything itself! incredibly stable.. no total system fuckage when one program dies, it just sorts it out... looks a lot nicer, and once uve got everything set up how u want it, it runs as smooth as a polished babies arse.
and the shiny taskbar... oooo

IMHO Win XP is shit, I made the mistake of putting it on my 120 gig HD and I've been completely unhappy with it. The features it offers are completely useless to me and it's a resource hog.
I guess how much you'll like it will depend on what you're using your computer for, but in my experience Windows 98 is still just fine. Frankly, if all my software wasn't only good for Win 98 and up I'd still be running Win 3.1 and DOS 7.
I'm getting a new box put together by a friend soon, and I'm going to have that loaded with Win 98 as well, screw XP, all it does is slow down your system, and for what gain? Nothing practical that I can see...
mmmm... it's all about Debian Linux...
But if you're talking windows... 2k is definately the sweetest
I'll take decent compatibility over a bunch of lame bells and whistles, thanks. Anyone with experience running both systems knows the supposed enhanced stability of XP is negligible, at best.
