Which University??
hey guys!! I'm not from the east but I am planning on going there next year for my education...
I am planning on studying mechanical engineering and there are 2 schools which I plan on going to:
University of Toronto (already accepted)
Waterloo (not accepted yet)
i was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on which school should i choose to go to. thx
I obviously did not have experience with both Universities, but being at U of T, I would say for you to go there. Everyone knows that U of T is the best. It is Canada's version of an ivy league university.
^
...
UofWaterloo is one the best engineering universities in North America. If you are fortunate to get accepted there, I would not think twice...
^^ uhh...i dunno about that dude. (edit: directed at tranceextasy)
i go to waterloo, so i think you should def. come to waterloo if you get accepted. im assuming you will be going into the mech eng coop program? if you get into coop, then you have to come to waterloo - even though coop is a little slow now due to the shit economy.
i mean, i shouldnt need to break this all down for you because you probably know it all (you did research these schools and whatnot didnt you?).
i dunno what to tell you for waterloo, i mean, there are a lot of nerdy guys but the quality of women has increased each year that i've been there. if you have specific questions then just ask...
steve.
wow another soon to be engineer .. ? man so many engineers on TOTA .. no wonder it's a manfest in here .. lol ..
Go to Western..it's just the BEST for Engineering. Waterloo and U of T pale in comparison!

Reasons to go into U of T:
1) It's cheaper
2) U of T's Mech. Eng. program isn't any worse than Waterloo's
3) U of T is in Toronto, more fun stuff to do. Considering you aren't in Toronto, you'll most likely be stuck in Waterloo on the weekends. And that isn't exactly fun.
4) Being in co-op in Waterloo is very very depressing. It's very competitive.. At U of T isn't as bad in that respect, but then again who knows?
Reasons to go into Waterloo:
1) It's more of a community here. Chances are you'll make more friends than in U of T.
2) It's co-op. You can get a pretty decent job early on. But then again job market is sooooooo shitty right that most 1st year students don't have jobs.
how about Ryerson and McMaster?
u guys havne't said anything about them
Since the poll was for U of T and Waterloo, I get the impression he's already decided not to go to Western, Ryerson, McMaster, or any of those.
I don't go to either university, but I have a lot of friends who've been to both and they ALL have pretty much the SAME things to say, so it might be good to keep this in mind:
Waterloo is very competitive and academic, so it can get depressing - however, everyone I know who went/is going there is enjoying their studies and thinks the co-op is great.
U of T, on the other hand, is the only university where a vast number of people claim they really haven't had a good time at all. I've heard this from people in Math, Engineering, assorted Arts and Sciences and even Music. Their academic standards are high, but it's just not a -good- place to be studying. The only good thing about U of T's atmosphere (or "vibe" as many would call it) is that it's in Toronto. Having said that... it's in Toronto.
These aren't my words, they're paraphrased from what others have told me. Also, engineering at either university is going to be a sausage fest but at least Waterloo has Laurier right down the street...

i would go to waterloo
it has a really good co-op program that i have taken advantage of
with so many graduates out there, youll have a better chance of getting a job because you have experience in your field.
I agree go to Waterloo, as nice as it would be to stay in Toronto, Waterloo has the best program. If you don't get accepted there then to be honest it doesn't really matter where else you go, as long as the school has an accredited engineering program. We all pretty much learn the exact same shit.
Waterloo does have an amazing co-op program, which you can take advantage of from the start (depending on what stream you are in 4 or 8). However, UoT has a co-op program as well which you can take advantage of during your 3rd year.
Tuition at Waterloo is skyrocketing. My Winters tuition was $2784 + other fees = $3509. This will vary based on the faculty that you are in. Im in the Math faculty and Im expecting my tuition + fees to rise to $4100 for the fall term. Food and off-campus residence was around 2600, which also depends on your living eating habits.
Waterloo is a tough university. A lot of people have to sacrifice their social life in order to keep up with their courses. UoT is hard but not as tough as Waterloo. The quality of education is about the same in both universities I think.
There are more ladies at UoT
. At UoW the only thing that one will be rocking is books...
I applied to waterloo, mac, queens and mcgil
mcgill is my number one cause they offered me $12K. waterloo is my number two. im going to mcgill instead of waterloo cause of the cities. waterloo pales in comparison to montreal. and for the people. i hear bad things about the community at waterloo and how they are the school that DOESNT know how to have fun.
I was just kidding about Western. These emoticon things don't sufficiently accomodate my sarcasm.
Western is good yes, but obviously Waterloo and U of T is better. I'm not even in engineering so I don't really know.
my commerce tuition at UT is gonna be 8000 o.O gg deregulated programs
the only good thing about mcgill is its researchs in health science. the rest is crap and is way overhyped. Oh yeah having "McGill" on your diploma might help too
to kewlness: you know yourself better than us, if you're the type that is outgoing and can't stay locked in your dorm then I guess its UofT, if your always carying your books to study then waterloo may be the answer.
At the end, its just a piece of paper, trust me.
well, waterloo is not that bad anymore in terms of geekyness.
i mean, there are quite a number of hot girls now, and i think UW has shed some of its geeky stigma over the last few years.
but montreal vs waterloo is no contest...

Look at all the engineers
I just got accepted into Waterloo Computer Engineering today
I couldn't believe it, I thought I'd have to wait till the end of May (or early June!) to hear. And I wasn't even sure I'd get in...
Suffice to say, this package that says "You're In!" with the UWaterloo logo in the bottom right corner is quite a relief
I'm going to set up a campus visit soon. Which residence (there's lots to choose from!) would you recommend? How's the city? Am I going to have 18 hours of homework a day?
