Forum Behaviour
This is an interesting quote from a magazine I read quite often:
| quote: |
| I feel that all too often opinions are tunrned into attacks, especially when it comes to forums and even more so, computer forums. The classic scenario: a newbie logs on to a forum and is systematically shot down in flames by experienced members of the forum. The newbie retreats with their tail between their legs, in some cases never to come back. This behaviour has some interesting ramifications; none of the least being the forum grows very stagnant, reflecting on the opinions and knowledge of the few old timers. Without the injection of new ideas, opinions and experiences, nobody will benefit - and just remember, even us technically savvy Atomican's were innocent, curious newbies were once too. One persons perspective may seem incorrect or illogical, but this is different approach might spawn new ideas or techniques down the track. If new ideas and perspectives are shunned, we will never know they even existed. So next time somebody posts a seemingly idotic question or opinion, take a deep breath, remember that it wasn't posted just to annoy you, and construvtively offer reasons why this is incorrect or ask why they have this opinion... you never know, you might learn somthing. |

stfu n00b.
but seriously, i think the au forum of ta has had plenty of new people this past month or two.
Ahhh its all too common in the chilllout area but not much in the au[ta] forum me hopes??
People like to belittle people based on the fact that makes them more superior to others.. but its stupid really... its easy to beat someone who is less experienced as you...
i see no logic there...
Only showinoffism... hahaha don't yah love my linGo
i say shove it mate
it feels so good being tough on the internet.....

In all seriousness if someone who gets flamed is so upset they don't come back they need to get out more.
This forum is fine anyway. There are heaps harsher.
bah... its the internet ffs... the epitomy of anonymity and mindless opinions.
just remember... my opinion is more valid than yours ...lol
its because the internet doesnt have a physical presence. i mean, if a 240 pound muscle beefcake were to walk up to a room full of ta's in real life and say where do i download the latest trance, do you think that room full of geeks is going to say 'stfu, newb'?
hell no, they're gonna be fumbling for pens and adjusting their spectacles in order to get the urls correct so that the muscleman doesnt come back later and beat their little heads in for writing down goatse.cx

lmao aren't we all funny ****s today?
I try to learn as much as I can from other people's input, one of the main reasons I am on these boards... that said, it's annoying to witness all the flaming and over-the-top arguments/fights, and the jewish thing is it tends to rub off on members in general
man, ppl who complain abt ppl on forums, have less of a life then ppl who post.

ahahah...the politics of internet forums...
I think the au.TA forum is pretty good. I haven't noticed elitism; or flaming because someone is a n00b and perceived as less of a person because of that fact (and I don't mean 'n00b' in a derogatory sense). I guess one of the problems with the internet is that it can be hard at times to pick up someones tone, which can lead to all kinds of misunderstandings. As well as that, sometimes people are simply oversensitive, and get so defensive... they cant take a joke or criticism. Not everyone is out there looking to undermine your opinions...
don't take everything so seriously and it's all good
Can you flame n00bs who sign in with your first name...
*cough* Duncan *cough*

On top of what Ves said about things being misunderstood, there's a problemo with forums not being in real-time. I mean, you can see someone say something like 'PvD hasn't been playing very well recently' then he goes to bed cos its 11pm where he is.. wakes up to find the pvd alliance already made 10 page worth of abuse n accusations n often un-provoked bullshit, all un-answered because the dude has been asleep.
