Judge Jules sux!
Last night was his first NYC appearance...Gatecrasher @ Limelight. He played 2-7:30. The first hour was noise. He played a banging set...of old tunes. I couldn't believe he played ZOMBIE NATION (dave clarke remix?). He played a couple of other cheesy commerical tracks. He played 1 classic "It's gonna be a lovely day."
When he dropped Picotto- Baguette the place exploded. He played Hi Gate- Caned & Unable. Picotto- Like this like that (Hi Gate remix), Cygnus X- Superstrings, Joy Kitikonti- Joy Energizer, Member's of Mayday- 10 in 1(orginal remix), Cosmic Gate- Firewire (LCF Mix). I recognized a lot of tunes...they'll come to me later. I've slept 10 hours since thursday. I went to Loft party last night Sander Kleinenberg spun...thats a whole other thread.
He closed w/ a breaks remix of For an Angel, susposedly the orginal remix circa 94. They threw a couple of records into the crowd which caused a stampede.
Overall, I give his set a 6. He'll be at Roxy in 2 wks...I won't be attending. I expected more cheese although I was NOT impressed. The programming was terrible.
I had a great time.I danced my ass off. The GC parties always a great work out...lotta fun. They bring SICK ass lazers.
One of my mates thinks Judge Jules is highly overated. I don't mind him I guess, but maybe his track selection is a bit all over the place lately.
jules never seems to sequence his sets properly.. he could play a huge epic trance tune then follow it with shite house, he's really confusing sometimes.
I can't stand Judge Jules!
yeah jules isn't the greatest tracklister. but when he gets it right (IF he does) he can spin a really goooood set. like his set @ Qontact was really nice! i dunno. he's an off/on kinda dj i guess.

His last few sets @ the big parties have been good (Qontact & Homelands).
1st off, Judge Jules has never been the GREATEST dj, and we cant say that his been in the level of PvD, TIesto , Ferry , AvB, etc..
Judge Jules uses to ( still does ?!?! ) the essential mix on BCC1 , back in 1999- 2000 he was very well known in the UK, but always known for playing more tours the commercial side, although I didnt see nothing bad in it, he did throw great sets, and partys in IBIZA during the summer, now his getting known in the USA, and many thought that Jules was a BIG thing, naaa.. he is not that awesome kinda DJ if you ever thought he was, his jsut a good DJ, that got famous b/c of his radio 1 show, and his IBIZA gigs, I seee his House and Trance, but his QONTACT set really surprised me :-)
He played a lotta the same tracks from Homelands. It was HARD but that doesn't necessarily means its good. Cheesy tracks can be hard. He banged it out but the set wasn't constructed well. He gets tunes months after they've been played out. ie: Trisco- Muzak at Homelands, its a great track, its just that every prog house DJ beat that track to death last yr.
He played RBA- No alternative not Zombie Nation. Regardless thats a terrible rip of Zombie Nation.I didn't expect a mind blowing set but being that it was his first NYC debut he coulda played a betta set. I bet he played the same set at Buzz in DC.

When i saw the Judge for the first time back in April he played an awesome set, i still kick myself for not taping it. About him being a prick and not being nice to fans, ok
. After he played his set people wanted more and he just kept playing till the club shut down the power then he stayed for at least an hour signing autographs and taking pictures. Maybe he was in a good mood or something that day but he seemed like a really nice guy to me. But yes he does play some songs that are overplayed and cheesy but when he's on he plays some unbelievable sets. My 2 cents
I've seen Jules dj twice once last summer and he was very good and this March and he was completly shite. he is a weird Dj and is very confusing, and yeah i've heard he can be a moody bastard with fans but I shaked his hand and he had a tiny chat before his set and he seemed alright. but about the music he is a very confused Dj.
People seem to get mad at me when I suggest that Judge Jules is a tosser but this evidence from twilogoddess backs up my point. I respect Jules for all he has achieved but his track selection is awful.
One thing about Jules, I dont want to bash they guy, but I know he did a very bad comment about the CRASHER kidds, about using all the glowstix and the way they dressed.. I heard he did a crappy comment about it, and thats one of the reason many felt betrayed, since they were the ones to support him and take him where he is now.. but hey.. this is not a point to keep bashing the guy, maybe his changed his mins ( I hope ) and has thought things alot better, anyways, this was a comment like late 99 -- 2000.. so why pay attention to it :-)
u say the judge doesnt shake hands? Well maybe I saw an exception, but when I saw him, so fans climbed up to the DJ booth(climber on the bar, stepped on I dont know what and got up about 8-9 feet) he signed the flyer for the night and shook their hands, got pics. I loved how he said NOTHING all night long, he just look @ the crowd different and the 'pray' type shit, and for some odd reason we'd all go nuts as monkeys!
I'm not big on Jules myself, but who cares id he bashed glowsticks. Shit is stupid anyways. It's all about the music, not the toys. Anyways... anyone going to see Taucher this Friday @ Webster Hall, NYC. And in a few weeks Talla 2XLC will be there. Atleast something is still going on in NYC.
My bad, it was Ashely Cassele who closed the night out w/For an Angel (Ashtrax remix), a breaks remix. Ashtrax= Ashley Casselle & Paul Greendale. He also played Brancaccio & Aisher- lovely day Accetate.
I don't give a rat's ass that JJ doesn't shake the fans hands... He sux.
Yeah I'll prolly go to Taucher & Talla.
Upcoming Events: Satoshi Tomiie at Filter 14 Tuesday, June 5th. Jeff Mills at Limelight June 8th. Timo Maas at Centrofly June 17th. Sasha & Digweed at Roseland June 29th. There's rumours that PVD will be at Roxy & Sound Factory in Aug.
i wasnt a fun of his either..but when i listened 2 his set at Qontact, da set was really good...but wat can u say...i guess i depends on da setting, atmosphere and time...where u spin and at wat parties and clubs....when Oakie came 2 Tonic in Toronto, his set was shitty..so there u go
Judge Jules....
I saw Judge Jules at Shadow Lounge during the Winter Music Conference down in Miami in February. He was on right before Paul Oakenfold. (I know Twilogoddess, you are going to poke fun at that!) Neither of them were that bad, although Jules' set didn't really stick in my head (wasn't that memorable). Oakie's set on the other hand, was full of anthems and white-labels (I guess because this set was not part of his tour?) It was your 3 hour set though (cue Twilogoddesses' laugh).
I guess Jules is alright - if its on the radio i'll listen, but i won't go out and buy the CD.
