Allah wak bar!!!!!!! My dreams have been fulfilled!!!! Oakie has been my favorite since 1996, and every time I see him it gets better.. SystemS will be crazy that night!

Who's got a guest list setup! Put me on the list!

Mother******......

Let me just say again how happy I am for this.........

The only thing that would make the summer better would be another AvB, Ferry or Hardwick showing (assuming PvD shows up!)....

I hear a lot of shit about Oakenfold. Like that he pre-records his sets amongst some other shit. Can someone update me on this?

This rumor came from the fact he was using a CD deck to spin at a fairly well known event, and the CD deck then started to skip..... He didn't react too well, and everybody thought he pre-recorded the set and was just faking the set.

Shit, I've seen Ferry, AvB, Gielen and all sorts of DJs use the new CD decks and if the damn thing starts skipping you're screwed.. DJs who use them a lot can recover, but Oakie is so used to using 1200s (remember he's been spinning on 1200s since '89) it can be a difficult situation.

Oakie is one of the trance gods.... No doubt about it.... I've got so many of his records and compilation CDs... I'd love to get some signed (if any of the promoters are reading this let me know)......

This will be great. Oakie does NOT pre record his sets, he mixes them like the best!

KarateKid

if there's one thing i know consistently about this guy .. it's that there's always bashing and controversy surrounding him whenever he's announced to be playing here ..

it's almost like ppl either love him or hate him .. despite all he has done, and has not done for trance ..

Posted by sohaness on Apr-30-2003 07:06:

if he's really playing at system, then expect a packed house! this guy could easily fill the guv main room, so yea....

steve.

Posted by ryanm on Apr-30-2003 13:38:

I saw Oakenfold last Canada Day weekend @ the guvernment and I didn't like his track selection at all. I can't remember that night clearly because I'm trying to get it out of my head but his set was very monotonous. Don't get me wrong there was some progressive but for the most part, it was very monotonous. I think the overcrowding of the entire complex didn't help the situation either.

Posted by mute79 on Apr-30-2003 13:47:

^^^ I thought his set was great... but he was way better when he was openning up for Chemical Brothers at HC... damn, that was a great party!!

Not sure if I'll go to this though, it's guaranteed to be rammed... like last time at tonic, you could watch him live there or on screen at system, lol... both clubs were packed!!

Posted by Durafei on Apr-30-2003 13:58:

thanks, but no thanks... on the other hand, i'm glad to see that System fridays is becoming more and more Trancy.. Can anyone say popularity of progressive in Toronto is declining and Trance is making a well-deserved comeback?

Posted by Special K on Apr-30-2003 14:04:

I wouldnt go that far...

GUV still books mostly proggy djs and Lotus have been booking mainly proggy DJS as well...

I think System is basically booking whomever they can get, not because is trance is more popular in TO right now...!

I think they dont book anymore proggy djs anymore because well GUV seem to have the hookups with Balance/Bullitt when it comes to throwing parties in TO!

seen?

Posted by bucky on Apr-30-2003 14:47:

...or maybe System is one step ahead of everyone else in starting to go more trancy. they seemed to be one step ahead for a while with prog, maybe they're onto something. maybe they realized that a lot of people seem to want to goto Viva for trance, but bitch about travelling from downtown, so why not bring it downtown again. just a thought.

I'd love to see Oakenfold at System, too bad it'll probably be ram packed with a line down to King St.

And Oakie's set last year in GUV was pure crap... selection of tunes was, well, same as every other top 10 DJs at that time, so yeah, it was damn boooooring.

Therefore, I'm not even thinking of checking out System this time...

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ couldn't agree with you more

Posted by beatjunkie on Apr-30-2003 15:53:

Man I remember the line up when he was at Tonic on a FTWK (remember those Wednesday nights?) System had the screen and Tonic had the biggest DJ in the world.
System will be so packed with posers and people who only know his name that night. There is no way you could pay me to see him in that Sardine Can.
If System was really smart they would charge $50 a ticket and reduce ticket sales.....then at least it would be enjoyable. (Big DJ - Small Club) type of thing

$.02

Then everyone would bitch about Oakey being overpriced, System trying to cash in, etc etc etc. Noone would understand the rest of it. Love or hate Oakenfold, by the time this event comes around this'll probably be one of the biggest threads ever in this forum due to the amount of attention he gets no matter what.

I would agree with you and say that the popularity of trance is definitely on the incline here in Toronto. However, I wouldn't say that progressive is on a decline. System Sound Bar has always been a trend setter in Toronto and always strive to be different than everyone else. Every other club tends to be a laggard..

I'd agree with that statement (moreso a couple of years ago than now) but where do Oakie and Judge Jules fit into that equation?! What trends are they setting by bringing in people like Oakie and Jules?!
