Satan (eek!) First Time

what was the first house, dance, trance related CD you bought? and in what year it came out?
Tell Me

My first house cd was Serious Beats Vol 5. It was released in 1992.

I guess it was "Future Dance Connection" back in '91. That was for a CD, but I had heaps of earlier House tapes from the mid 80's too.

Been into it for longer than I can remember. Used to tape stuff off the radio.

Oldest 12" I've got is 'Tricky Disco' by Tricky Disco from 1990. I was 12 when that came out!

Mine was "Dance To The Underground" 1993

Here's an excerpt from the inside cover:

The Underground--
A place where people get together,
leaving their troubles behind,
letting the music take control
of their minds, their bodies
and their souls.
A place where they can be themselves,
express themselves and enjoy themselves
as they are drawn to the music.....
House music.
Welcome to the Underground

Before techno came I listen to music like Front 242 made.
One of the first techno tracks I loved was L.A. Style - James brown is dead.
Some of my old CDs

Techno Trax 1. 1991 - 1992 or something, lost the CD a couple of years ago

Groovy Getto 2 1992 Convert - Nightbird, Art of noice - Instruments of darkness. Really cool tracks on this one

Party Zone 1 1993 Eurohouse / House

Westbam, Bam Bam Bam 1994 I have really cool mixes of Celebration generation on a maxi singel, think Im gonna rip em and post em
Marusha , Raveland 1994 "All my respect to the ravers out there, always in full effect --- Marusha"

Hard House Vol.1 1995 CD1 mixed by DJ Jean & Marie K, CD2 mixed by DJ Guillaume La Tortue

Goa - Head 1996 Great goa, I listen much to goa before trance got really great

Planet bass 5 1997 Really great , cool tracks. Like Scot Project - Y, Mindscape - Open your eyes, Timo mass - Killin me and many more think Im gonna rip this also and share

Their first tracks where more dance a like

like no good I like that song

But I think the prodigy consider theirselfs as a rock band and not as a dance act. I'm almost sure of that

My first was the Platipus Records compilation Volume 1. Dam thats some old trance now that I listen to it again! So electronic it almost hurts my ears ahah. Good s@#t For its time though.

I hardly ever bought cds in the early 90s... but.. here's the progression

Janet Jackson - Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989)
Wilson Phillips debut CD (1990)
Robert Miles - Dreamland (1996)

In between then I just listened to radio alot and taped shit onto cassettes...

Posted by djdawn on Jun-05-2001 07:20:

mmmh, my first time, eh?

Tekknophobia - 1991

got some early releases from Suck Me Plasma and Force Inc., and Classics by The Overlords, Hypnotist, LFO, Tricky Disco. Still Nice.

I started out listening to house...to the likes of Bad Boy Bill. In Buffalo here back about 2 years ago you could only found nyc house and hard house. Then I started going to one club that started to introduce the trance sound. I remember the night after I heard Trance for the first time I was sitting in class the next morning...all out of it...just yearning for the next time that I could hear it.

The love for trance has only grown since then.........!

The first thing I ever bought (with electronic music) was a compilation of Music Instructor. I bought it in..1998, but I can't say if that's the year of it's release. (my oldest-by date- is BT's Ima)

pet shop boys - introspective, 1988

christ I feel old ;p ... coincidentally the first CD I ever bought. does this qualify? listening to it recently it still sounds pretty good (despite the faggy brit vocals which turned me off to male vocals forever). the pet shop boys were one of the few electronic acts that ever made it on american radio back in the day.

is this disc considered proto-trance, or at least influential, by anyone respectable?

Posted by Linx_da_cat on Jun-07-2001 02:15:

ahhh to me, pet shop boys - go west is a classic. hehe. it was really cool back in the day man! i loved it.

prodigy is jungle...well at least the old skool stuff is. ahhh definitely one of my favs. been listening to them since.....forever. lol.

Paul van Dyk - Seven Ways....some of the best classic trance. Came out in '97, might not seem old but in the trance world many would consider it just that.
