Ordering equipment from the states

Hi all,

I would like to order some equipment from djmart.com, but the thing is, I live in Holland. Has anyone got an idea how much tax you have to pay when you order stuff from the USA which is shipped to europe??

Thanx in advance!

Greetings,
Blighty

Hey Tiger, shipping costs and import tarriffs are TWO DIFFERENT things. Shipping is not calculated by us, it is done by the delivery compnay.

Here in the states, you only have to pay the sales tax (which is around 8%) ONLY if you live in that state or want the items shipped to that state. Sometimes there are some scandalous shops that charges sales tax to all customers regardless of where they live and that's just a bad store.

Shipping will be quite a lot however for international shipping, especially if the package is really heavy. I don't suggest that you buy international equipment unless the price you're paying for is really, really low and offsets the steep shipping costs.

Oh, yeah, sorry, a little misunderstanding in my messed up brain

There won't be any tax on it placed by the EU. That's the beauty of online shopping, you byepass all that. You will have to pay shipping though. My suggestion is to find somewhere closer to home that will sell them. That way, if something goes wrong, you can take them back.

I once ordered a product from US to Canada...
the total (including shipping) cost me 110 $

a month later... some taxing company sent me a bill of 50 $... which i had to pay.

I will never order a product from the net again !

no! it doesn't work that way! sometimes you might get lucky and don't have to pay the taxes, but usually you have to!

in finland the customs first take 3,5 % of the price (including shipping) and then from that price it takes the VAT which in finland is 22%. and if the sum that they tax altogether is more than 10, then you'll have to pay it! so i wouldn't order anything from the states, except for just a few records or cds so that you don't have to pay the taxes!

i believe this is pretty much the same in holland an everywhere else in EU, just the VAT % varies!

your luck really depends on what the seller has marked as the price on the box. i've had packages come to me with just "gift" on top, even though i've paid for them. i think that the customs won't let any properly labelled packages slip through!

oh, and i think that if you label the package wrong intentionally, then we are talking about fraud! i wouldn't mess with the customs, because your chances of not having to pay the taxes are pretty slim.

but i hope you get lucky, just because you, like most people, weren't informed about this properly. it sucks i know!

don't scare me man

Well, if I have to pay tax, bad luck, since I can't order these phones in europe I'll still be happy

No one is mislabelling packages on purpose, djmart.com protect your privacy by folding and attaching invoices in a way that no one will see your name nor address(I'm not referring to the shipping label itself), once that's done, you can't really see the pricing either. Nothing fraudulent about protecting one's privacy, right?

yep, right! i have nothing against doing so! just warning you people that don't know about these things! i personally hate the fuking taxes and customs! i wish there was only one country in the world, so there would be no need for stupid customs and stuff like that!
