Broadband Help Please!

Ok, i am VERY pissed off at the moment! I havbee everything setup for Broadband, the modem is all installed, my account has been activated, the phone lines all set up ok. I just can't get the damn account set up!!! I have my username and password, the IP adress to connect to, and also the DNS adress.

Can someone please give me a step-by-step run down on how to do this in Windows XP. It would be MUCH appreciated!!!

I have an ADSL modem.
I have an ADSL ISP account, with a username, password, and all these settings they gave me.

go to control panel > network connections, file > new connection

use the wizard, feel free to post any trouble u get

But i was wondering where abouts do you enter in the IP and DNS details???

The wizard only asks you to enter in the username and password.

Network Connections > Right click the connection icon u have set there > Properties > Choose Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Properties

There u should have windows to insert IP & DNS info.

There might be an easier and shorter way to this point though..

Um... my connection does those things automatically.
Besides, wouldn't it be easier to contact the ISP's helpdesk or something?

u dont need a DNS Server, you need a ADSL Enabled phone line , you cant just buy a modem and set it up, it needs to ben enabled at the exchange, then you just connect automatically, ..

Hmmm.... well all thats been done apparently, It has been enabled at the exchange. So what you set up the modem then what? Do you actually need to connect or does it do it automatically??

i'm just wondering how you're able to use the internet if your modem isn't working...

and if you're having troubles you're most likely going to find the best help calling your ISP
they'll know how to set everything up
more than someone halfway around the world would anyway

ok, 99% of modems in this age are PNP plug and Play , so basically you just stick it all in and then it should be all fine unless your using windows 95 or less or unix, you should of got some instructions from your ISP on how
to set up the Dial Up, some comapnyslike NTL you dont need to install anything , im with btopenworld , and i had
to install 2 cd's , the isp software, and alcatel dial up soft etc, there should be two lights on your modem,
e.g ADSL Line and Modem Status , both should be on, and not flashing. if you give me some more info e.g isp
modem info i might b able to help you.
