Good deal or not for a car?

Ok on Thursday night i looked at the trading post and saw a Mitsubishi Magna Excecutive 89' for $2000 (I'm not rich so don't laugh ), the owner was a granny so they wouldn't have thrashed it (i hope not ), anywayz the milage thing had only done 67000km..

I can drive this tomorrow cause i gotta deal with the bloody insurance companies and stuff..

Was this a good deal?

that era of magnas are fuckin shit. 2000 is prolly about right for such a bucket of trash

Posted by Psygnosis on May-06-2003 03:13:

Well it's a first car, second car i'm trying to get a Skyline or WRX or 300zx..

BUT this was only a runabout car to make me go from A to B.

I hope you got one with power steering cause they are like driving a brick on wheels with out it.

For $2k with that many km's sounds orrite. its a 2.6ltr 100kw engine so it has a little bit of go. For getting you from a-b it will do fine.

Enjoy your first car and drive safe!

agreed definately DO NOT get it if it is auto otherwise you'll be breaking down every hundred or so kilometres as the magnas had auto gearbox problems which can't be fixed.
Also check if the car has been regularly serviced, hence log books/service history etc that also tells you how well the car has been kept

hehe i was going to buy a magne 89 but woke up to myself. now i'm getting a skyline

Posted by stamper on May-06-2003 12:30:

Well, whether you think magna's are a shit car or not is a matter of opinion. I think personally that the fact that the car has only done 67,000 kms and was owned by a grandma is a pretty good sign. I dont think you'll start having any major problems for at least the next 50,000kms. So i think its a good buy.

Ahhh evo 6, my current dream car...

One of the fastest production cars around corners.
Will rip the wheels of a WRX and the new evo 7....

I have one way to describe this car... Totally Insane.

This thing is like the god of all rally cars (well it was)

Anyway back to your magna, $2,000 for something that's done under 70,000 clicks is a pretty good price. Get the RACV to inspect it for u and ask for the service log books to make sure it's been serviced every 10,000km or so. Also check for sighns of a crash repair. (granny drivers can be pretty stupid sometimes)

Else u should get at least 50,000 km more out of the car without much problems.. but then again ask around about this auto gearbox problem everyone's talking about.

Good luck with ur car mate.

Cheers.

not a bad deal given its only done 67,000 and that its only for A to B

just make sure it is serviced regularly (every 5,000 for that sort of car) to make sure all is in order.
