Technics MK5G NEWS
Some months ago we have spoken about the New Technics MK5G and I wrote a mail to Technics here in Holland.
Next month this deck will be sold here in The netherlands so maybe you guys can buy it in the States also.
Don;t know the price but it will be like 1100 Dollar I think
That figure is too high. Right now DJ Mart has them for $849.95 and thats with an import cost all the way from Japan. http://www.djmart.com/tecsldirdriv.html Or maybe I'm wrong and they'll be ridiculously expensive (thats $2200 for two decks tho lol).
In any case, $800+ for a turntable is insanely expensive, and IMO, not worth a single bit. Not even for the Technics name. Give me the MK2 anyday.
I love my mk2's but the second they have them here in Canada at a decent price I'm gonna get 'em

We put those t-tables out on sale to move them out. we are one of very few ProAudio stores to have them and at that price, new technics are very reasonable comparing to what they are sold in Europe. So keep your stupid remarks to yourself. Most other stores take $10.00 off and call it a clearance sale or take $20.00off an item and call it the "sale of the year" . We at djmart.com take $100.00 off to save you the consumer some money on a brand new item for 2003, which 99% of all stores in the retail industry DON'T DO, and you dare to laugh about it. That's NOT COOL! and NO MK5G IS NOT a limited production item. |

If you don't like the savings fine, but don't have to make fun of it. To most people that know something about ProAudio equipment and their prices, know and appreciate when such a limited quantity item goes on sale just because, and don't make fun of it. Apperantly that person isn't very knowledgeable nor is that person a potential customer if they post a remark like that. |

IF a person laughs at sale price of highly limited quantity item with a savings of 100.00 that just shows the ignorance of that person as a consumer, that person is an Ebay shopper, who expects retail stores to give everything away at half price, well doesn't work that way. a saving of $100.00 is a great deal, but because of that person's inability to coprehend business world, they ignorantly laugh. So therefore, again, I did NOT badmouth a potential customer.... |

The 1200MK5 are scheduled to be available in the U.S. in July in both black and silver. They will be retailed at $449-$499 U.S. dollars. Keep in mind that this is only for the 1200MK5, not the 1200MK5G. I do not have any info on the MK5G yet.
$449-$499 is a bit higher than how much the 1200M3D is being sold in stores (which varies) but in the general sense, the MK5 is to be priced nearly equivalent to the M3D. Technics wants people to start buying MK5s and they're hoping to set a new standard.
Those are all words from a local DJ store owner (California Sound & Lighting) here in San Diego. I have no doubts in his words.
On another note, Technics has these insanely fancy-looking cartridges out which will also be released upon the release of the MK5. These cartridges look 'techno-ish' and are pretty fancy. Nothing I've ever seen before, heh.
New things on the MK5 when compared to M3D:
1) You can now get 'black M3D' lookalikes. MK5 has the same looks of the M3D except that it is now available in black in the U.S. Black M3Ds have been available in Europe as the 1210M3D for a while, just never in the U.S.
2) More torque. You can feel and see the difference. The difference is not incredibly dramatic, though. But you can feel a difference.
3) Groove light is LED. Pretty damn bright. Like LEDs. Like you're raving it up behind the turntables.
4) Tonearm assembly base is mostly black now, instead of silver/metal/gray. Makes the all-black MK5 look much much more sleek.
5) Antiskate goes up to 6 now.
6) There are claims that the new tonearm assembly has better skip resistance. I did not test this for myself - I don't scratch and my M3Ds already have incredible skip resistance.
EDIT: The MK5's look NO WAY like the MK5Gs. The MK5's look exactly like a 1200M3D except it has an LED groove light (white) and the tonearm base is black. That's it. The MK5G has all the fancy blue lights, including the blue lights along the pitch slide, and +/- 8% and 16% buttons. Also, the MK5G is glossy black. The MK5 is not glossy. It's black like a black MKII.
Cheers, Squawks.
Would it be worth waiting for the MK5G, I want to get M3D's and start learning how to dj, but i like how the new one has the new features. I had decided on the M3D's then get word that these new tables came out. Only thing is not in the US yet.
what do you guys think? should i just go ahead with the M3D's?
