Pioneer HDJ1000 question :)

just got my hdj1000's from audiocubes.com (awesome service btw, recommend them)

i am still burning them in....they sound pretty good

can anyone confirm with the stereo switch on, that sound only comes out of one ear?? and mono on, sound comes out through both ears? is this right?

Yep same as me.

The only difference i notice is that stereo sounds better and is clearer. That's it.

and yes on HDJ1000s.

Of course, that is what this thread is all about isn't it?

As far as the stereo being more clear and sounding better...that is the whole point! There are two channels with distinct differences to provide sound depth. My mono and stereo work the same on my mixer as they do plugged into my soundcard, so you may wish to check to see if it is your mixer or your headphones by plugging them into another source.

well heres how mine work:

- turn on stereo switch
- sound comes out of one ear, faintly out of the other ear
- put both decks on, both channels playing in monitor,

STILL only plays out of one ear. basically the only way to get them playing out of both ears is to play mono

do you think they are faulty?

It would help if you would give us some useful information etc.

Did you try plugging your phones into a normal cd player etc? Can you rule out for sure that it is your mixer? I know that my DJM-600 has a mono/stereo switch that when it is on mono, I will only hear out of one ear. So if your heaphones were switched to mono and your heaphones to stereo, you would only hear out of one ear. Then, once you flipped your headphones to mono, you would hear out of both ears again. This wouldn't be a problem if your mixer wasn't on mono. If you switch it to stereo, then your headphones would play out of both ears whether it was on mono or stereo.

So is that it?

If not, are you using a 1/4" TRS to 1/8" TRS splitter jack? Some of the ones that I've tried (to let other people listen in to what I am while I dj) will not be in stereo and you'll hear sound only out of one ear.

i have tried plugging them into the back of the computer and also into another mixer and get the sameproblem. i have other headphones which play out stereo, both ears, through the mixer fine so im 99% sure its not the mixer.

it is only a cheapish mixer so there is no mono/stereo knob

stereo wiring/button must be screwed/ any other ideas dude?

don't buy headphones based on other ppl's opinions. headphones are mainly a personal preference. everybodys's heads aren't the same size, some may fit too big, too small, other ppl interpet the sound different.

best advice is go to your local HiFi audio shop and try on different ones and see how they sound and fit yourself.

Posted by Ghostface on May-11-2003 03:55:

yeah, i agree. Don't buy them just cause we say they're good. Conversely, I'd recccomend you check them out, I'm really hapy with mine.

OK back on topic.

As I said earlier I get both channels through both phones on my DJM300, but today i was using a vestax pcv003 and you get one channel in the left and the other channel faintly in the right. So yeah looks like it may not be your phones but could be the sound source.

ok well looks like they seem to be working now

if i twist the plug and push it seems to bring the other side of the headphones into life
hardly an ideal solution, seems to be an issue with the source or the connector on the headphones

mate, that sounds hella dodgy. SHould just take em back and get a new pair.
