Sound set-up recommendations?

Now I'm not going to ask you "what should I get" well i guess i sorta am, but for starting off, should I bother getting a set of speakers and woofers and an amp and what-have-you? the sound set-up I currently have for my stereo system is not too great, and the mixer I'm getting should have good quality sound. Regardless, I'll be able to afford a good sound system during the summer, and in the meantime I can spin in headphones. This is just for a bedroom set up for the time being. Suggestions...? Thanks.
BTW i did search the forum using "speakers" however that gave like 50 pages, and will take hours to fish through. Any redirection could help.

This question is pretty open ended, but ultimately comes down to your personal choice

Things to think about:
- How much money are you really going to spend?
- Do you actually need powerful speakers?
- Do you really need a sub (probably not for a bedroom setup...)?
- Hi-fi speakers or studio monitors?
- Etc.

About the wattage

15-30 Watt: Empty small room 4 X 4
30-60 Watt: Full small room 4 X 4
60-200Watt: Large full room 7 X 7
250-350 Watt: Small club, with 50 ppl dancing
350-500 watt: " " , with 100 ppl dancing
500-1000 watt: Medium club, 150 ppl
1000-2000 watt: Large club

These values are just an estimate huh... But, if you intend to stay inside your house, I would go for an amp between 150 and 200 W. You shouldn't get more than 200W in your house, unless you wanna end up deaf.

For just bedroom setup, get a home theater receiver (around $100-$200 used) with bookshelf speakers (around $100-$200 a pair).

Good receivers: Yamaha, Denon, K&H. You shouldn't have to get them to power more than 75-100 watt per channel.
Good bookshelf speakers: NHT, Klipsch, and many others that I can't remember off the top of my head.

This will sound pretty good in a bedroom setup. NHT and Klipsch speakers are actually audiophile speakers, meaning that they're meant to deliver sound quality, no sound quantity/volume.

But when you want to use your own gear for house parties and such, you'll need amplifiers and big speakers. For the bedroom setup, however, this will do more than what you need.

1000-2000 for a large club? All the clubs I go to are usually at least 10,000, sometimes as much as or greater than 25000 (in a single room)

In any case, you want monitor speakers for a home set up for practicing mixing...behringer truths or event 20/20's, or if you've got a lot of money, mackie 824's

I know, on a very large rock concert here, they use amps of 10000 watts... so, in a club, they won't be using 25000 huh?
(btw, I hate rock )

well... maybe if its a bigger event like global gathering or gatecrasher they prolly have xtreme wattages. I couldn't make a guess at how much. Somewhere high.
