Sad Paul Van Dyk-Nothing But You *Commercialized*

My friends and my brother say they're hearing this song on the radio quite a bit now. Will it have the same fate as Darude-Sandstorm, time will tell I guess.

In case anyone's wondering, Z103.5 here in Toronto, Canada is airing it a lot.

well pvd did take the original and commercilise it to fuck....

Posted by Floorfiller on May-12-2003 21:58:

this isn't the first PVD tune to be on the radio ya know...i can remember hearing Alive all the fucking time...

Posted by BeatFreak on May-12-2003 21:59:

Who cares? I would love to hear PvD on the radio down here. But that would never happen. I would like to see some good stuff break-through to the mainstream instead of DJ Sammy and Dirty Vegas.

that's nice. i'm sure if Wizards of the Sonic was on the radio, u'd be calling it commercial cheese. Tracks are "born" great or cheese or commercial, they aren't developed into any category

aye.

this was pure shit from the start.

well its a wank mix which PvD has brought out, what ever happened to that one he WAS playing?

Posted by DJ Kandaio on May-12-2003 22:16:

The thing about the PVD club mix is that he has taken a great idea, and polished and refined it to neutrality. It's no longer a highly energitic tune because all emotion has been neutralized on it. If he could only put that "something" else that artists like Gabriel and Dresden add, this tune would be awesome... And we all know that PVD has, or did have the ability to do that..

Posted by torontotrance on May-12-2003 22:17:

i don't think pvd cares

does'nt hurt his bank balance

same with darude...ppl hated his song but it never hurt his bank balance

same with atb..he sold out but the amount of money he made off of 9pm till i come was simply amazing.

haha its like hearing Underworld here in the US. it would be nice to hear some PvD on the radio. i think they only play Lasgo n stuff late at night. see? electronic music is very underappreciated here in the states. dont take what you have for granted! at least you dont have a RAVE act under ur asses

Posted by allstar on May-12-2003 22:39:

Tell Me Why was also overplayed...

He still IS playing that version. NBY (Original Mix) was played in Mayday 2003. He's sneaky like that.

By "the one that he was playing", are you talking about the version he played at his Cream@Amnesia set last summer (Aug. 2002)? If so, is that version he played in that set not the same as the PVD Club Mix that has been released, the only difference being is PVD might have increased the tempo to make it more danceable?

There is defintely more diffrence than the tempo, it does not have the same kind of builds and breaks.

Im glad nothing but you is being played on the radio here. its good to know that trance is becoming more recognized in america. good music is not meant to be kept a secret

Hes also sneaky in the way of playing a mint tune and then releaseing every crappy mix but keeping the excellent mix under his belt

if you are making money and selling records and cd's...do you really care if the world thinks you soldout. I mean flip n fill don't give a shit...rofl....they soldout longtime ago....they are making a fortune.

Posted by KoS on May-13-2003 03:20:

You guys are lucky they even play soem PVD stuff in your area. Here in the Bay Area the only time they'll play some decent stuff is on the weekends after 10..and the songs they play are like BT-Godspeed.

Posted by marcus82 on May-13-2003 03:49:

heh..it's also Z103.5, it's not like it's KISS 92.5

Z has always be inclined to play EURO and i have heard a few trance tracks once in awhile (mayb lazard - 4'oclock? not sure).

people aren't obligated to limit what radio stations want to play...just be happy its 4 mins AvB gets and 4 mins less for 50 cent - in da club or some other wacker of a tune...

just my 2 cents

that is the only thing I dislike about Paul. He edits the final release and actually makes it worse. did it with Empire, Club Attack, Joker Jam and now NBY. ugh

Posted by umes23 on May-13-2003 06:36:

i agree that empire was an unecessary edit. as for nothing but you, the original mix owns, and the single just brings you a variety. yeah pvd club mix does not have as good of a feel as the original, but the vandit and cirrus mixes are quality in my opinion.

Posted by 24K on May-13-2003 06:43:

I didn't like the Club mix when it first came out,,, and I can relate to how disapointed many of you were when the original mix didn't get released. However...

I must say after hearing PvD and Armin play the Club mix of this track when they came to my city in the same week,,, I have a new found respect for it. It was beautiful to see how much people were enjoying this track,,, sure they aren't educated like some of you folks on TA,,, but I've played this mix the past 3 weeks at my club night and everyone LOVES it. I found that if you mix through the first breakdown the track works very nicely IMO.

Posted by arctic on May-13-2003 07:12:

And the problem with hearing a song you like on the radio is?

Posted by webmeister on May-13-2003 12:15:

Haven't heard NBY on the radio yet .. but I'm sure it's not far away :/

One track that has been getting massive airplay down here for some reason is Plummet - Damaged (Antillas Mix). And the other day I heard Moogwai - U Know Y (Original Mix) as well!! Strange times

Nothing But You was hardly 'underground' in the first place, was it?
