Scooter: Rip off merchant?

My mate was pissing about on this scooter website - scootertechno.com and found out about this new scooter track apparently called "Plantation" which completly rips off Kaycee - Escape.

Took a classic, albeit cheesy, turned it in to a fucking gay pop tune grrrr .

Ive uploaded a sample that he got, here

This revolution must stop!

Why can't Scooter do us all a favour and just die

Posted by Lira on May-13-2003 16:04:

Nah, it doesn't need to stop. When they blatantly use melodies from other artists, probably they are paying the royalties for this. For example, I don't remember (nor I care) which tune they "ripped off" from Push, but guess what? Probably, they'll sell more copies than Push did, and Push will receive part of the money.

Plus, they used to be a great act (I even own a single from Scooter: "Fire"), and they've been around for 10 years: how many other artists managed to last this long? Even if it's cheesy, it's usually a gateway to electronic music... first Scooter and then trance, techno, drum'n'bass...

If you don't like them, just ignore their existence... why care?

Mike was never asked for permission, he said on his forum. But he recently said BMG helped him solve it, so he propably got compensated after all

I care because Scooter > Wrong
Scooter causes 14 year olds to sing and dance and shout YAY WE LOVE SCOOTER in the streets.

Those 14 year olds grow up to be pikey 18 year olds with 1.2 nova's (no offence to anyone who drives a 1.2 nova, unless your a pikey of course, then i hope you turn your car into a fireball during a failed burnout) and we all know what pikey nova drivers listen to? Yes, Scooter...

Therfore, he should be burnt alive in a big pit along with Flip and Fill and said pikey's.

i had to laff when me n my gurlfriend were out shoppin yesterday.. that came on in a shop.. it got about 16 bars in and the shop owner stopped it, i was like "you know the score"

anyway, i think ultrafusion hit the nail on the head with this:

Let's suppose they suddenly release "Scooter - Gore yellow" (I couldn't think of a lamer name, could i? ), using the melody from Gouryella. The melody would reach people who aren't close to trance and it'll probably lead them to the trance scene.

I'm no die-hard scooter fan, don't get me wrong. However, I don't think we should bother so much Besides, Scooter helped me get my first girlfriend, so I'll always be grateful to them

How am I supposed to defend Scooter if they don't help me out? If they didn't ask for permission, then it's just wrong, however, if Mike gets his money back, it's fair enough, in my humble opinion

If you hate Scooter, why even bother visiting his website

KayCee used the melody of 4 Voice - "Eternal Spirit" for Escape

i used to listen to scooter back in the day... my friends and i used to blast "fire" and "age of love", cuz those tunes rocked and they still do. if it wasn't for scooter, i'd probably be listening to nelly right now and not max graham

Posted by Christopher B on May-13-2003 22:27:

You all talk as if Scooter is taking over the world, which is far from the case. I personally only know two people who listen to Scooter, one who only listens to their old stuff, like some of you, and the other, who listens to everything Scooter, admitting that it's cheese and that he likes it. What's everyones problem here? Sure, Scooter rips off tracks, but do you really think that any good is going to become of multiple threads that all say the exact same thing?

Posted by matt_a on May-14-2003 07:30:

What is MIKE website?

Posted by Cobalt on May-14-2003 07:56:

The complaint against Scooter isn't that they're gateway cheese; we all know that will always exist, and it's probably better for the scene that it does.

The issue is that they're using melodies that belong to someone else and shouldn't be ripped off into cheap immitations. Crap dance music can exist without borrowing from quality trance; that's just adding insult to injury.

Posted by joeh on May-14-2003 19:54:

this really is blatant - more than weekend was like strange world.

1. There is no new Scooter track called Plantation. The new single, which will be released May 26th, is called The Night. The starter of this thread probably made the tune himself, just to bash Scooter, like some other ****** did some days ago (claiming that they ripped off Seven Cities).

2. Scooter is a band with 3 members, so it's they, NOT he!

3. Can't we just stop the Scooter-bashing threads? Seems like they are almost as common as all other threads together these days.

4. I respect people's opinions, and I know that 90% of the members here hate Scooter, and it's fine by me. But when some wankers start remaking other well-known tunes and claim that Scooter did it, that's just too much. FFS you are lame!

Posted by torontotrance on May-15-2003 17:08:

worst ripoff merchant is josh wink

the guy is a thief

he stole a song from dan bell aka dbd and used it on his song and claimed it as his own. Dan Bell tried to sue but Wink threatened him badly. Don't believe me, find his site, it's all true.

Then he stole french kiss without permission and tried to release it and then the record company that owns it sued him. Messy legal situation and these two are one of many.

The scooter CD 'Push the Beat for This Jam' is being re-released in the UK soon, and plantation is a bonus track on the re-release.
