Question Live Armin v. ASOT Armin

I've seen some of his tracklist for his live shows and some just seem like he plays dated tracks. The tracklist are not as good as what he pulls off on ASOT. I was just wondering what everyone else thought about his live performances, if been, and how they would compare it to ASOT?

peace,

Steve

if there was no ASOT u wouldnt say he played over-dated trax cause on ASOT he plays them so early, before we even known them!

Yeah, i know that, but why doesn't he play those newest songs in his live sets. When I mean dated, i mean dated for him.

Seeing armin live is better than ASOT armin... that's for sure...

if it's livesets you mean... then yes livesets are better than ASOT... doesn't matter if the tracks are dated or not...it's how good the vibe of the set is as a result of the tracklist...e.g. energetic one as opposed to a zzzzzzzz ASOT one

The 'live' ASOT's aren't actually live though. So they are pre recorded from sets Armin did sometimes over a month ago - hence not many 'up front' tunes in them.

Most of the ASOT are live! The second hour contains a lot of new tracks he hasn't played in livesets before.

Armin is in the chatroom during a live broadcast (most of the times). If he's not live, he mentions it a week before or during the start of a show.

Posted by babbel on May-14-2003 13:13:

Freezel what golden_Rich ment was that when there is a live set in ASOT it's usually a set which is about a month old.
Hence it can't have the newest tunes from ASOT a week before

Posted by Sand Leaper on May-14-2003 13:17:

Armin needs to experiment more. On ASOT he does that quite often playing both progressive and techno at times. Why he doesn't try this live is probably explained by the fact that the crowds he plays to don't want anything but trance, and leave him little to nothing room to experiment on. As harsh as it may sound, Armin should really stop caring so much about the crowd's expectations, and play different genres when he feels like it.

OK, hard day at work here

Then he's right. If a liveset is on, it's quite old.
We hear tunes he doesn't play in the show anymore.

WOw, I didn;t know that, I thought ASOT's were prerecorded sets in the studio and he was just sitting at the mic talking as they were playing. I honestly would find it difficult to talk and mix at the same time, especialy throwing in jingles and commercials and shit.

Ive been saying this for ages

What happens to all the kick ass prog he plays in the second our of ASOT? He also misses out allot of amazing melodic stuff he plays in the first our.

How is the tracklisting on ASOT zzzzzzz?? Are you mad man?! I'd KILL to hear a tracklisting similar to ASOT when Armin spins live but instead I've seen him 4 times and the first 2 were ok (the last time) was ok but it's just rehashed tunes he drops that I've heard before (sure nothing wrong with that but I want more variety mixed in with those tracks I've heard before! Not just anthem after anthem). I will go see him again mebbe if it's not an insane $$.

I made this thread about 2 weeks ago talkin about how his liveshows don't seem to be that great compared to ASOT's with kick ass new tunage. Then comes along RudeBoy69, where he post a set like this (BELOW). I got to thinking, since Armin reads this forum a lot, you think he took it into consideration to update his record case, or is it just coincidence. Thanks RudeBoy69 for the tracks.

Jeez, you make it sound like it's some sort of a competition where the DJ who plays the newest tunes wins.

As for the relationship between Armin reading the forum and his record case, there really isn't one. Usually when you see a thread about some new tune it's because it was on ASOT, and that's why the thread was started.

I'm looking at that tracklisting and thinking "who cares if it's old, I would have really really really really liked to see that show".

If this is the only complaint you have about Armin, he's doing pretty damn good.

Posted by rudeboy69 on May-26-2003 23:58:

BTW, ARMIN TOLD ME DURING THE BRIEF INTERVIEW THAT HE DOES READ THIS TA FORUM, SO PLEASE CONT. GIVE SUPPORT TO OUR ARMIN

my thought on ASOT vs. LIVE ARMIN

it's really nice to hear all the newest tunes every thursay, but nothing can do justice when you hear ARMIN LIVE!!!!

it was just insane when he dropped PLASTIC BOY-LIVE ANOTHER LIFE..
The last 2 episode of ASOT were just outstanding, but when you hear all of tunes again, (except BT-somanbulist), THEY ARE JUST 100X BETTER

i was never too much fan of SUNBURN, Goldenscan-Sunrise(ronski speed mix),and I thought RANK1-BREATHING was just an average tune, but when you hear ARMIN drops these tunes, it was like having your ears unplugged and you say OMFG, HOW CAN THESE TUNES SOUNDED SO F#%@G GOOD!

tune in ASOT every thursay, then go catch ARMIN LIVE THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY

Posted by dj2kTA on May-27-2003 00:18:

I think seeing Armin is waaaay better than ASOT. To be in the club where he is spinning all those tunes that you've heard on ASOT is so great.
The purpose of his radio show is to introduce new tunes each week. I sure wouldnt be happy if he only played some of the 'newest tunes' instead of mixing it up with whats been hot for the last six months or whatever.

Long live Armin!

Ok, if you haven't noticed, the DJ's who do play the newest tunes are the best DJ's in the world. Tiesto, Pvd, Armin, Oakey. They all play tunes every week that we haven't heard before, whys that you ask? Well, they get first dibs at upcoming producers' tracks, and upfront promos of the newest songs by the best producers. These producers give their newest music to these guys cause they get heard through these DJ's. These DJ's get these tunes because they are the best, why would a producer want to give anyone a track who isn't popular, then they wouldn't get heard. The #1 difference between professional DJ's and amateurs are the tunes, sorry to say, but it is. NO one goes to see Armin & Tiesto to hear tunes that everyone else plays, they go to see them hopefully to hear a tune they haven't yet heard before. At least that's my .02.

OK, Armin has been known to read these threads at TA. That's why I brought up this point under my thread. He happened to start playing newer tunes after I started this thread. I just thought of it be kinda amusing to say I was the reason for it.

I never once said this new tracklisting was OLD. Its very very new, hince making these posts.

That's all I gotta say about that!

Steve

Just a thought

I believe the reason that they sound SOOOOOOOOOO good live is b/c you are in a club, that is the point!!! Tracks are always better in a club cranked up w/ everyone dancing their asses off around you!! Not just listening to these tracks sittin at your comp Huge difference IMO. And more on to the topic, I personally believe that any dj sounds better live, when you are there the experience is unbelievable!!!
