Well, spinning at a club was...interesting...

...thanks to some perseverence on my part, the amateur DJ night was open for the first time in three weeks.

Was amazing to hear myself playing on a big system, but there were some unfortunate downsides:

- We had no monitor, so rather difficult to hear how well transitions were going

- Due to not having a monitor, I now understand the concept of being horrid to DJ without one. Went out and stood on the dance floor a few times to get the full effect.

- The damn Pioneer mixer there sucked in some respects. No split channel cueing (which I would have easily forgiven if we had a monitor), and the bloody cueing buttons were nearly completely broken (the buttons you hit to the select the channel(s) to hear in your phones).

- Since I switched to felt slipmats, my beatmixing has been somewhat out of whack, really got used to using my Technics rubbers.

I did not have a speaker next to me at the turntables, just had speakers out on the dance floor.

you use the original rubber mats? lol, first time i've heard that. cueing must be a bitch! takes so much force to spin the record and stop it...

Word. I can't even fathom how that would work. Will stick to my slipmats.

Why the hell would you ever practice with Tech rubber slipmats. Sounds like a newbie to me.

We're here to help each other out... You probably had no clue what a slipmat was at one time as well...

well, it's true, let's not give him a hard time about it.. but you have to admit, it's pretty funny. go put the rubber on your decks and try to spin and just imagine what it would have been like learning like that!?

personally, i was surfing recess.co.uk, learning all i could long before i had my decks, and when i got them, i knew everything from the wow and flutter to how to set up the tonearm.. but that's just me, i am slightly obsessive compulsive.
