What is Aphex Twin?

For those of you who listen to Aphex Twin, i don't know the different classes or how to classify music so i'm just wondering what most of his music would be under.

i know a lot of his shit is ambient, but i don't know if his music is just under techno or electronica or whatever.???

Why do you want to know anyway?

It's just another form of EDM, don't try and classify all you hear.. It narrows your mind !

Aphex Twin is noise disguised as "intelligent".

If music can't move me without drugs then it's not worth listening to.

yes and no. some music is designed to be extremely compatible with the use of certain drugs (IDM, GOA etc.). if that says something about its quality is debatable.

So how does the word "intelligent" fit in with "Intelligent Dance Music" (IDM) if it's only meant to be listened on drugs?

it's not, I can appreciate Aphex Twin without
I'm saying if you think it's noise, perhaps you need to have a few joints before you can appreciate the complexity of the guys work

then again, when stoned enuff, even a dog's barking can sound as complex and beautiful as one of Beethoven's Symphonies

Hell, I appreciate complexity, just gimme some drums that are on beat or at least one bar of melody

lol @ Az and Mr. Mystery

Aphex Twin has produced loads of different stuff: IDM (Intelligent Dance Music and which is related to drum'n'bass in some ways), breakbeat, electro... it's not really easy to classify his work, even for a genre-freak like me (and I wouldn't bother actually, because, as basd said, if you get too concerned about it, it narrows your mind )

Mr. Mystery, Aphex twin has got tunes with "drums that are on beat or at least one bar of melody", such as "Entrance to exit", which is the first tune I heard from him and is still one of my all time favourites because of its originality and energy. There are loads of other tunes (such as "Powerpill Pacman".. is this the right name!?), which is fun to listen to.
