Arrow Don't you think that '99 are coming back in '03 ?

even I am finding myself in listening more & more to uplifting & melodic trance for the past month. (don't get me wrong but I still listen to tribal & prog music) There are alot of quality uplifting stuff out there
What's up with that?

What do you think all , is it just me or you also think so ?!

Posted by Keith on May-16-2003 09:43:

In a way yes
99 was a great year for music
03 I think is better tho. Much more quality in tunes

Posted by tsunami on May-16-2003 09:57:

i liked '99 better (so far)
*nostalgic*

Posted by Mr.Mystery on May-16-2003 10:19:

'99 is never coming back.
'00 is never coming back.
'01 is never coming back.
'02 is never coming back.
This is 2003.

as i said a month ago in this forum,i have this stinking feeling 1999=2003.is it like the world cup?

The best tune every 4 yrs?
if so,we will be getting this on 2007

Posted by Az on May-16-2003 12:08:

theres a definate 99 style in a lot of tracks recently
if Oakie played like he did then, he'd be loving it

Posted by Rich on May-16-2003 12:08:

it definitely seems that theres a lot of quality trance around atm... a bit more diversity than there has been for a while!

but i think 99 will always be the best year for me!

I dfenitely agree here! I opened a similiar thread in the Germany forum, and that was even BEFORE being @ Tiesto in Concert. Now im fully convinced that uplifting trance is experiencing a huge renaissance; its more sophisticated and perhaps a bit harder but carries the same euphoria and happiness as those 99' classics! As a matter of fact I find myself listening to progressive less and less again. Just shows how I used prog to compensate the lack of quality trance in the last 2-3 years. Not that prog is bad, but I've got my priorities

Posted by sifntj0r on May-16-2003 13:06:

i've never regarded '99 trance as uplifting, i've always thought that it had its year(s) more in 2000/01

to me, listening to oakies world tour em's, the trance in 99 was deep and a little dark, yet still powerful and driving. it was simple yet also complex, and it had all the power and emotion that makes trance good. there were definately some good uplifting tracks around then, but i think that became the prelude to 2000/01 where uplifting really became big.

Posted by Omegasox on May-16-2003 14:32:

I think the quality of the tracks are approaching the quality of those in '99, but the current tracks have a much different sound from all the monsters of '99. I think trance has a softer side now than it did in '99.

I'm very surprised by all those class releases this year!

agreed 100%!

- Yes, tracks are better now then what they were back in 2001-2002 and the end od 2000. Tracks now are heaving that 99 feeling, although not explosive and as euphoric as the 99'tunes, although they do have it in some other way. DJ's like Tiesto and PvD are really riding with this type of 99 feeling. Oakey is following right after, although he is still with that progressive, but still, he has throwned GOOD sets!. I heaven't heard much of Ferry and Armin, although I know Armin is a true trance all around DJ. It's great though, but, nothing will ever, ever come to replace the year of 99.

Yeah I agree with this, and it is Tiesto who started it!

Listen to his latest productions(Nyana, Ten, Faithfulness) they have got a 99 sound in it.

it's all about what the above and beyond lads, neo and farina, JOOF etc... have been doing
nothing tieso has done since 99 has reminded me of 99

Well those A&B tunes lately are becoming quite repetitive IMO and they sound nothing like 99, the only N&F tune that reminds me of 99 is binary refined(which is logic ) and well JOOF's latest cd doesn't sound anyway near 99.

but who cares who started it, the tunes produced lately are of a very high quality and I dont think we could ever agree on this just because Im dutch and you are from the UK

what made '99 so great in everyone's mind was that they, for the most part, people were just getting in to the music style. Further, what makes the music of the past better then most releases to date is the style that they were made in. '99 was the year of summer tunes. If you think back to almost every great song from that year, the have a summer feeling, a feeling that added to awesome beach parties in Ibiza and elsewhere. Also, tunes back then had better melodies. I find that today's releases focus away from the subtle nuances of music and more on repetitive sounds and rhythms. I hope that 2003 will return to the beach party of yesterday, but I don't really think so....this is not to say that I don't still enjoy the music hehehhee.

I do agree that Tiesto's Nyana has that special 99 feeling, very Innercity like.

I totally agree with you. 99 was like no other year, because like I was discovering trance for the first time. But I have to admit, 03 has been awesome in terms of quality in productions and sets as well. Tunes being released lately are so intelligent that definitely made me stop listening to prog and get back to uplifting.

Posted by pnuemo on May-16-2003 21:16:

99 will never be repeated! the best, forever!

Posted by fr0st on May-16-2003 22:11:

people need to frigging get over the past if everyone lingered in the past wed just be a bunch if monkey's beating on some wood.......

GET OVER IT

Posted by VaNFeCto on May-16-2003 22:16:

Youre definitely right man, there are a lot of new fresh producers coming out and theyre are some great tracks from already mainstay producers, I think uplifting has finally gotten out of its slump of boringness and formumatic ways of the past, its not just u man its me too!
